Staccato and Fujitsu announce wireless USB demonstration system
Staccato Communications and Fujitsu have announced that they've jointly developed a
wireless USB demonstration
system made up of Staccato's new Ripcord UWB
Development Kit and Fujitsu's digital still camera development platform. It's apparently the first demonstration
to show wireless USB connectivity with digital cameras which is, well, a pretty big deal when you think about it (no
more cables!). The system will be demonstrated in the Wireless USB Community at the Intel Developer Forums, which are
being held in Tokyo, Taipei and Beijing this month.

I don't think it's that big a deal at all. Wireless USB? Don't we already have Bluetooth? It's like saying "Wireless Ethernet"
How many cameras (besides the poopy concord) have bluetooth?
And what's wrong with new technology?
Well, hopefully wireless USB is much faster than Bluetooth. That would be great if the transfer speed was close to regular USB 2.0 speed, but wireless. I have TONS of wires all over the place, going to my USB hub. It'd be great if I could get rid of them someday.
Wireless USB will really be here when they start shipping dongles which plug into your favorite keyboard to make it wireless (you can pick yours, I'll stick to the Matias Tactile Pro http://matias.ca/tactilepro/index.php?refID=7). Of course battery life may be an issue there.
right now I would just like some usb look alike ends one you plug into your printer with no wire attached and the other in your computer with no wires attached. Just like a regular old USB cable without the wire, just the ends. Than have absolutly no settings to adjust on either end, except maybe a switch with several codes that could be manually adjusted.
It will be USB 2.0 speed, thats the big deal
anyone know what frequency its using? i see this being a huge PIA if they are clogging another already used up freq.
just more of the wireless telephone (2.4GHz) walking all over my 802.11(2.4GHz) deal. luckily i pumped up my WAP and now the phone is struggling for signal. overall: not too exciting.
"How many cameras (besides the poopy concord) have bluetooth?"
So, make more cameras with Bluetooth. Why invent a new standard?
Obvious question: how many cameras have Wireless USB? Answer: none.
"And what's wrong with new technology?"
Nothing, but there's no point in inventing so many incompatible standards that time and energy is wasted trying to sort them out, especially when workable alternatives already exist.
Time and energy could be better spent settling on a small number of actually useful standards and getting everyone to support them and make them work properly.
If Bluetooth is too slow, wait for Bluetooth 2.0, or use WiFi. You've heard of WiFi, yes? I hear it's the next big thing....[/sarcasm]
I am totaly looking forward to wireless USB.
Bluetooth is over-rated and clumbsy.
Also you have to buy your products as bluetooth, I also want simple USB wireless dongles.
Right now I am building a PC that, besides VGA and Power, is totaly wireless. Right now my problem is my speakers, running on a USB sound-card are not wireless. A simple USB 2.0 set of wireless adapters would be ideal.
