The Neonode N1m
Vaporware pros Neonode are back with a slightly improved version of the N1, their Windows CE 4.1-powered smartphone
which took about two years longer to hit shelves than it was supposed to. The N1m has the same form-factor as its
predecessor, but Neonode says they've added a one megapixel digital camera and tri-band GSM/GPRS (the original has
dual-band). Other than those two things, there doesn't seem to be anything else different; there's still no Bluetooth,
for example.
[Thanks, David]

they also added a vibrator function. SHAME on you engadget for not doing your research.

Shame on you for saying its GPRS. its only GSM. *STILL*
This is old news anyway (last month?). The US store on their site is the only one not offering it - WOld make a good second phone/back up.

i been following this phone for like 3 years now, i bought a new phone like 2months before it was released which pissed me off
i bought the nokia 6600 which in some ways looks quite similar, but no where near as pretty as the N1
but then the 6600 has vibrate, gprs, and bluetooth
(i am just trying to make myself feel better about it)

ONLY GSM? Holy Cow. I think I would most likely end up hurling such a device against a wall, smashing it to smithereens in frustration at the slow data rate after about a week. Come to think of it, I don't know of any data plan that just uses GSM. That takes me back to my Visorphone days, browsing the web at 1/4 the speed of dialup. I thought that was pretty special 4 years ago. I find the lack of GPRS or something similar pretty hard to believe. I'm too lazy to verify that, though.
matt: Pretty, Shcmitty. I like the looks of the N1m too, but enjoy your Nokia's functionality. Symbian is good stuff.

Who exactly told you N1 does not have GPRS? It is GPRS capable, example here: http://www.neonode.com/templates/navigationAndFlashPage.aspx?id=76#. It is sweet, little device, the only real disadvantage is lack of Bluetooth and IrDA...
Ne0 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:12AM
Oops, it has IrDA. So it lacks only Bluetooth. I recommend downloading N1m manual before posting ;-)

Oh, it's a phone.. thanks for clearing that up...

Hmmm, I'm not sure that adding a vibrator function is a major improvement--if anything they should be embarrassed they didn't have one in the future. Thomas, if it's ok with you, I'll save my shame for something a little more shameworthy.

Why does the article says Windows CE .NET 4.1 if the original one (on N1) was 4.2 and slowly they upgraded it to Win CE 5.0 which is what they still use on the N1m.
Oh, and by the way, sound was made better, z-force screen beams were improved, antenna was improved aswell, lots of things! It's the perfect phone!
p.s. I've been having the N1 since october and it's still great. If I were you I'd have no doubt on what to buy when they open their U.S webshop! ;)

The Neonode is one of the phones I anticipated the most, and the one that disappointed me the most.
Releasing a phone lacking that much, is just not any good. You'd have to have way too much money to buy a phone that only partly works, and then wait for the updates that make it work.
Also... no bluetooth ? Pffff... no good !
Maybe when in a couple of releases it'll get interesting.
TheZodiac @ Dec 19th 2005 12:12AM
Ne0 - Read the specs kid. GSM triband. It has been long known this phone would lack GPRS due to some *SHITTY* hardware and implementation of firmware. GPRS compatible, meaning in the future they can/will upgrade it. Read the fine print - it dosnt even have a web browser *yet* yeah thats available in the future too.
Midnight @ Dec 19th 2005 12:12AM
It DOES have GPRS, has done all along, but the original version didnt have a web browser, but they updated that several months ago, and it does now include a web browser (look on the facts page, Entertainment section.... Internet Explorer (HTML-browser))
oh, and i have an N1, so I do know for a fact it has a web browser built in
