Wireless USB 1.0 set for May 15
It seems that like so many
other
wireless standards pending these days,
Wireless USB is having a bit of a time
getting off the ground—first they stated their 1.0 revision would be done by the
end of last month, but now they're claiming it's set for
May 15. We're all about some new broadly accepted Bluetooth replacement that would rock 480Mbps speeds wirelessly up to
10 meters and all, but give us a call when it's all sorted out, yeah?

OOOOOOOH (jumping around like a monkey on gas)
Anyway, have patience young padawan. USB as a wireless format might just be what we've all been yearning for: a life without stupid cables. Cable management is one of my most hated issues, never mind the fact that connectors break, making laptops useless and components pointless...
I think USB has a recognition factor that's tough to beat. Market acceptance, as a result, should be swift. Now those pesky cell manufacturers are probably balking at all this. Since BT is problematic (I have some friends with Razr phones where BT is SO buggy it's a farce), and mysterious and best, the few brave providers on the phones have nestled into a high-end niche.
But USB means data for the masses. Data that previously the cells have nickel-and-dimed consumers to death on. Seriously, paying nearly $2 just to have a tiny gif of a pot leaf on your phone's screen? Dude, you *must* be high...
Of course, the cell networks are just firing up crack rolled in c-notes at the consumer's expense. Here in the US anyway...
So yay! Let's hope this happens ALL OVER!
I just hope all these wireless standards won't turn into another flash memory mess. Afterall, it's not a "standard" if there are like 20 "standards" around.
Whee! Something else to 'sniff'...
Just in time to0...Wifi, Bluetooth, IrDa and glue were getting old...
Yes, good until you get two computers together, and then you dont know which mice controls which computer!
"Yes, good until you get two computers together, and then you dont know which mice controls which computer!"
Actually, with judicious use of cube partitions, mirros and co(horts)workers, that actually sounds like it could be a LOT of fun.
For one of the people anyway >:)...
just because you dont have any data cables does not mean its wireless
you still have to power the damn things and that alone it why UBS 2.0 will be around for a while
even batteries have to be charged
