Neonode planning smartphone with built-in WiFi
We hesitate to give much credence to a company with such a notorious reputatation for announcing products which are
still years off from becoming a reality (we love the smell of vapor in the morning), but our old friends over at
Neonode claim that they're coming
out with a new cellphone with built-in WiFi that can automatically switch back and forth between wireless access points
and wider GSM networks. They're light on any of the other details about the new handset, like which operating system
it's going to run on (probably some flavor of Windows CE, just like the
Neonode N1, which is pictured at right), but they do say
they're planning to introduce the phone sometime in the second half of this year.
[Thanks, Frederic]

A side point, but I love the Neonode FAQ:
Q. Can I start a Neonode fan-site?
A. Yes, but you cannot use the Neonode logo and/or name.

So you can start a fan site for Neonode as long as you don't actually mention "Neonode" by name. I guess I'll have to call mine the "Vaporware Ne*n*de Fan Site."
Heh. I'll say Neonode as much as I want to. Neonode, Neonode, Neonode...
:-p
Have a look at the forum at www.redneo.com
Hundreds of users that like and dislike the current Neonode N1 and N1m
It's funny, when they started their company two years ago, they had artwork for poeple to use to make their own fan sites. They also had a great forum site that they never looked at. After about 9 months of vapor people on the website stopped talking about the Neonode phone and started talking about the phones they were buying instead. Eventually one of the Neonode suits must have taken a look at the message boards and shut them down.
The N1 would have been a great phone in 2003.
