Skype CEO promises versions for Symbian and Embedded Linux cellphones
There's already a version of their software available for
Windows Mobile-powered Pocket
PCs (with more on the way courtesy of HTC), but in a
speech yesterday at the VON Canada conference
Skype CEO
Niklas Zennström confirmed that they're also working on
new versions of Skype that'll work on handsets running on Symbian and Linux. Sorry, Treo fans, but it doesn't sound
like you'll be getting any Skype love anytime soon.

Hope they can get a version out for the Nokia 9500. That would be sweeeeeet!
Well, Treo fans may never see Skype, but Palm fans will. Since Palm's next major OS will be built on top of Linux, there's no reason why Skype can't run =)
Who knows, maybe the next Treo 710 will be "Powered by Linux"?
Treos probably aren't Skype-able since they don't have Wi-Fi, and low-speed cellular data rates just wouldn't cut it for VOIP.
Beyond that, however, I don't know why all those millions of Wi-Fi-enabled Palm OS devices with microphones aren't a target for Skype.
iPhone is an IP-phone for PalmOS devices, which is specifically designed to work on low-bandwidth networks. Along with standard phone capabilities such as establishing peer-to-peer voice communication iPhone will also provide a way for voice messaging.
Currently a concept is available, which demonstrates only basic functionality to establish online voice communication. The concept requires palmOne device equipped with ARM processor and Sound API. It has been tested on Tungsten|T and Tungsten|T3 devices.
Why Symbian? There's no such thing as a Symbian phone with Wi-Fi. I would TOTALLY buy it if there was...
The leaked photos of the 650, posted a while back are of a Pocket PC version of the Treo, which in theory would be perfectly Skype compatible.
it would b great to b than app also for my 6600
To poster number 5 "some Dude"
Open your eyes a little wider.... the Nokia 9500 HAS Wifi!!!
Skype for Symbian?
Can't wait!!!!!!
waiting for skype for nokia 9500, any idea when the beta will be released
Having just used Skype for the first time today, I'd like to see it on my S60 Nokia 6680 enabling me to use it as bluetooth connected handset that automatically logs in with my profile when I make a skype call.
Just spent 3 hours talking to my mate in Barcelona and frankly my expensive headphones are not nearly as comfy as the wired handsfree set for my phone!
I reckon that with Skype's ability to hook up to conventional phone networks it would make the "one handset for home and mobile" idea a reality - mobile network when you're out and about, Skype calls when you're in your hotspot at home or your friends house, etc.
Are there any new informations yet?
The Nokia WLAN-enabled phones are out since some time, SonyEricsson announced the WLAN / 3G Device P990i, the need of a symbian-based Skype is increasing!
Please post any news or related information!
