Emulate a TI-85 on your Nintendo DS
You've got that AP calc class, but only $150 to your name despite your obvious need for a graphing calculator and
portable gaming system—what to do, what to do! We're not about to encourage you to place gaming before academics (well,
not directly anyway), but if you're so inclined you can always emulate that dandy TI-85 on your spankin' new
Nintendo DS, and apparently quite well we
might add. Go forth and SIN COS TAN, young ones.

Ohh man, if I could play drug wars on that I'd buy one right now.
much better than the bs 'control your lightz!!1' shit. nice job
Math Teacher
"Hey! No video game allow in during class!"
Student
"Mr. Teacher, I am use as calculator. See? This is TI-85."
Math Teacher
"Freak Awesome!" *thumb up*
that's pretty sweet.
TI calcs suck. Get an HP emulator and we'll talk.
o man, drug wars was the bomb. any ideal where i can get it again?, its been a long time
I second that request for drug wars! My gosh, back in high school we got busted so many times for playing that in class. Turns out that the kid who distrubuted it to everyone was actually a real life dealer. Go figure. At least I turned out okay.
Now, THIS is a hack!
This puts those so-called PSP hacks to shame!
Of course someone had to put their 2 cents in about how great this makes the DS and how much its better than the PSP. Does it ever stop? I would swear Nintendo makes games that give you bj's the way people are in love with them.
Who the hell would want to emulate something HP has been wiping the floor with for years?
Way cool. What a good use of the touch screen.
Pretty freakin' sweeeeet...
Now to convince your teachers/proffs to let you use that during finals and midterms. Here's the first equation to use it for during an important test...
Class Brain + $$$ + Picto-chat = 4.0 (for all parties involved)
Not that I endorse cheating... :)
I wonder if they'll allow this on the SAT...
Ah ha! A real hack!
Probably engadget will calim that "It was not entered into the contest... VICTORY to javascript Tetris!"
BTW I am the owner of the (IMO) superior portable game system, the PSP and would love to see homebrew development happen on it. But you kind of have to admit that a "hacks" contest is extremely premature at this point. Aside from someone running some kind of actual code or doing something truly extrodinary with the PSP, I would be tempted to cry foul if a DS "hack" does not automatically win.
The work put into the passthrough devices and the amazing discovery of the wireless "virtual passthrough" software are absolutely remarkable. Ask even the guy who wrote up the javascript tetris in a couple of hours :)
Wow, that's great. It's actually the best game out for the DS.
Sighs, picks up PSP and plays Lumines.
Did any Ti-83 (or 85 i had both at some point) ever play penguin? It was like mario but you were a little penguin... freaking sweet. I'm trying to find it to see if it could be ported to ipod linux...
"Probably engadget will calim that "It was not entered into the contest... VICTORY to javascript Tetris!""
Well that's only fair if it's their competition? You don't have a cookery competition and then state that no one wins because somewhere outside the contest someone is making better food do you?
This hack WASN'T entered into our contest, so it's not eligible. Not much we can do about that, we couldn't force anyone to enter.
Heh, I would have entered it if I had known anything about the contest. Are there prizes??
PS: You guys killed my 256kbit uplink...luckily I found someone to host it for me so I can browse the internet again.
DS developers must be really busy really hacking and writing code for their systems.
PSP 'hackers' must have lots of extra time since they don't really have to hack anything but just have to make a web page.
Of course someone had to put their 2 cents in about how great this makes the DS and how much its better than the PSP. Does it ever stop? I would swear Nintendo makes games that give you bj's the way people are in love with them.
-------
Just wait until the next GBA comes out.. you know.. the system that's actually supposed to compete with the PSP.. not the DS with its N64 graphics capabilities..
#19: I agree, the 'hackers' havent even loaded code onto the thing yet.
Excellent!
shall we move on to next level - ti 89 ?
Um... this is kind of embarrasing, but how do I get the calculator onto the DS?
Please help... Ima Nintendo fan....
This is a geeky hack, hardly useful for 90% of us.
Let's see something more useful like putting AOL IM on it.
#20 has insecurity issues...
how do you put it on your DS....
damn this is embarassing....
#19: Perhaps the PSP hackers are too busy playing quality games to make calculator emus.
Not that I blame these DS folks. I mean, there's only so much Zoo Keeper that can keep one occupied...
I still don't understand how Engadget can post this story and yet not enter it into their PSP vs DS hack contest by default.
All the PSP hacks are a variation of the web portal hack. All the hacking is really done on the server-side and not on the PSP.
On the other hand, the one-and-only DS hack to be covered on Engadget since the contest was announced is TRULY novel. It actually harnesses extended features of the platform (i.e. the touchpad).
This IS the true winner.
A calculator emulator on a PSP would be pretty damn stupid considering it has one screen and no touch input haha.
Ugh. I forgot you couldn't post URLs in the comments. I've posted links to the Ti82/85/92 as well as the Casio CFX-9850G and Sharp EL-9600 versions in my weblog below the latest post in the comments. Go get em! Lemme know if they work :)
does anyone know how to do this
? both the links dont work for me
wtf? nothing works
How do you put it on the DS? Do you download it onto a flash cart?
