The Nintendo Revolution at E3
Looks like we're going to be busier than we thought during E3 next month. Fragland reports that a source within the
company has confirmed that, contrary to earlier
speculation, Nintendo will indeed be showing off their new next-gen Revolution console at this year's E3 gaming
expo. Even if they do have a console to show off it probably won't be playable, but if this turns out to be true it
means that Nintendo definitely are not going to let Sony and Microsoft hog the spotlight at this year's E3.
[Thanks, Rob]

That's great.
I hope they keep the small form factor of the Cube.
hmm, whos the lady in front in that pic? i may be a bit disconnected from the nintendo games lately but i cant tag her to any nintendo game i know of...
Was there any doubt whether or not Nintendo would have a showing at E3? Come on, if bought that then I have some stock to sell you, or better yet, "Hey, look. Sony has decided that the PSP will take the place of the PS3. That's right the PS3 is no more."
Look at it from a historical point of view. If Nintendo was going to shrug E3, it seems like they would have done it last year, but instead they made a pretty big showing.
ok after the last showing of the gaycube do we really care about there next console? Isn't the whole cartoon games like.... so 1990
People who comment like no.4 would have to have gone to the effort of commenting therefore want attention.
If you don't like something you read just close the brower, go to a different site, it is your choice what you read on the net, contradictory to TV. You clicked this link, you wanted to read it, giving a hypothetical question about who would care about it contradicts your own comment by you clicking on the link and caring enough to comment.
"If you don't like something you read just close the brower"
what's a brower? is that some gaycube terminology?
Nintendo's gonna be there- great. At this point, does anyone really care? I've been a Nintendo hopeful for years now- hoping they would finally get their sh1t together. It just goes to show you how much of a player that they aren't- their appearing, disappearing, reappearing act for E3 was noticed just about as much as the missing period at the end of Chris's sentence.
In the words of Monty Python's the Holy Grail, "Bring out your dead!"
Like it or not, Nintendo is still the best in house game developer in the world. Until some other studio makes consistent classics year after year, it cant be argued. When it comes to getting third party support for their systems, thats a different story.
Would I trade RE and RE4, SSBM (super smash brothers melee), Metriod 1+2, Soul Caliber 2 with link, Pikmin (best puzzle game ever imo), SW Rogue Squadron, and the new zelda for 8 titles on either xbox or ps2? If you think you can come up with as good a list with xbox games, you're dreaming. PS2 would be interesting if someone wants to give it a go. GTA3 and Gran Turismo might be the only titles I would put above the 8 above though.
Its got to be the easiest and toughest year to bash nintendo. So few GC titles this year, but will RE4 and the new zelda be fighting for game of the year honors?
Nintendo already screwed up their first-party GCN titles. What makes you think Revolution will be any different? Miyamoto needs to stop secretly playing PS2 in his office, fire all of his assistants, and get to work.
yay #11
come on get over it nintendo games are the most well know, zelda and mario, and many many others!

thanks engadget for the previous 'articles' on Nintendo's E3 offerings... which were based on absolutely nothing.. They already told us they'd be showing off Revolution and discussing the Online capabilities as well as the connection btw DS and Rev.
By the way... the next Gameboy (PSP's rival) should be out by Xmas... until further notice.. that is when it's due.
You know..Nintendo Mono Screen?
Well now all the players are assembled, I guess the battle of the gaming world has officially begun. It would be interesting to see Nintendo’s weapon of choice though they do develop better games than consoles.
I agree with entry 14 completely, imagine if they only spent time developing software (well at least as far as consoles games, im not even going to mention handhelds).
I think I'd be happier seeing them develop games on multiple platforms. Maybe they'd even a bit more free to drift from the same 3 or 4 franchise characters they've had the last 10+years and try something a bit newer.
But then again I also was hoping Sega would kick ass after being freed from making hardware... lol It doesnt seem like that has been working out for them lately, not sure what people here think about that.
i think all the systems really need to inprove is the motion. the movement of the characters rn't that great and the graphics r ok for me but PS2 graphics on some games look outdated compared to xbox and GC
By the way anyone of you have played Resident Eviil 4 on your consoles?
HA HA RE4, is scarry and violent as hell and only available on the Game Cube.
Some of you people are so stupid you dont deserve to talk here.
What most people dont know about is that Nintendo went through a change in the leadership division. That is why GCN has had a few bad years. The SP and NDS are this groups creations. Those are easaly the best systems the company has made since the SNES. I think we should give them one last chance. Just one.
i dont see nintendo as direct comp to sony and microsoft..thier gearing for a totally diff market...children...nintendo makes really really cool toys...thats it....
All most of these characters care about is how powerful the revolution's processors are going to be. I wonder if the revolution part could include a seperate physics chip? Now that would be interesting.
I agree, give the new console a chance. The DS, despite rabid media bashing of it before launch, has performed well. The Revolution will do the same.
Well, personally I'm a fan of the nintendo industry in general, Basically because I grew up on NES, SNES, and N64...Lately, nintendo has been slow, but mainly because of their game style..the more popular games are now FPS's and such and not really strategy/adventure games like Zelda (even though who doesn't like zelda?) I think it's good that they are trying to stay in the game and keep the legacy of nintendo running. Even if I thought the DS was a little bit of a letdown, I still think that nintendo OVERALL is a great company and would be gald to buy something from them in the future supposing its worth it.
Optimism is definately better than pesimism!
Go nintendo!

I think that this engadget and the people who run
the site hate nintendo,I mean look at the picture
they posted for nintendo and they never have any
thing good to say about nintendo, but to comment on
the topic i think that the new nintendo is giong to blow our minds,in a good way!NINTENDO RULES!!!
Can't really say the DS is a let down yet, you haven't seen 1/5th of its potential.
"Can't really say the DS is a let down yet, you haven't seen 1/5th of its potential."
And you never will. The DS will be dropped like the Virtual Boy. It's a nice gimmick while it lasted, but it's little more than market test.
I have no idea why people hold Nintendo in such high esteem. They may have made a few decent games, but they have made almost as many mistakes as Sega when it comes to hardware.
#26, do you realize that it's nothing like the virtual boy? developers could just NOT USE THE TOUCH SCREEN THE DS STILL HAS ABXY LR and DPad. It can function as a normal console with free online play.
the DS launch outsold both the GBA's launch and the GBA SP's launch. They have not made as many mistakes as Sega. The Gamecube has never been a money loser unlike the Xbox.
You forget that Nintendo's overall hardware marketshare is 55% in america and 60% in japan. nintendo is the largest game hardware company in the world. the DS has successfully sold side by side with the GBA and has not significantly cannobolozed it.
Nintendo has consistently made good games throughout its history. the only bad nintendo games come from a few of its less experienced second parties. nintendo as a company consists of about a dozen different software development groups plus the hardware division.
since when has EA made any games besides The Sims and the Madden series, which is a tired franchise, that will be considered classic? Not to mention the fact that EA has ruined the James Bond series. EA has two classic games on their hands, Nintendo has about 20 mario games and spinoffs like mario kart that are considered by many to be classic, 5 zelda games, donkey kong (arcade game), 5 Metroid games, super smash bros 1 & 2, and the list goes on. In fact, gamestop still sells many nintendo N64 games at the price of $19.99-$24.99 (mario party is still $25)
i dont think i need to elaborate. assuming nintendo is "dead" just because gamecube is neck and neck with xbox is totally absurd. do you consider xbox to be a failure? it's a financial failure, lost microsoft over a BILLION dollars.
Back to the DS, the DS is selling more than the PS2, more than the Xbox, and more than any other console and is in a very close battle with the PSP. considering that sony's widly full featured and technically amazing handheld can't even beat a portable N64 just shows how much nintendo ISNT dead
and by the way, the DS sold more consoles in the timespan of 5 hours than the virtual boy did in a year.
"I have no idea why people hold Nintendo in such high esteem."
Oh, I dunno. Could it be their 20+ year history, compared to Sony's less than a decade, and Microsoft's less than 4 years? Could it be that for the majority of their existance, they have been THE company to beat? Sure, they're in 3rd place today, but if anyone looks back at what's happened with consoles or electronics/computers in general, there is only one constant: Things CHANGE. In the mid-80's IBM was hated as an arrogant bunch of b*stards while everyone liked the spirit of that little Redmond company, Microsoft. Now their roles in the PC space are reversed. Microsoft is despised and IBM's practically a folk hero for their support of Linux.
Sony and M$ are fighting for top spot today, what about in 2 years? 5? 10? Will the Xbox be around then, or will Microsoft grow bored of only having penetration in North America and pull the plug on it, like they've done on many of their more expensive projects? Will Sony reign supreme, or will the fallout from the Immersion suit have long-reaching consequences? Will the Revolution be a new golden age for Nintendo? Or will some new player on the field charge in and snap up market share in a blaze of glory like Sony did in the 90s?
The bottom line is nobody knows. But people have respect for Nintendo simply for still being around in such a turbulent industry. They're pretty much the only pioneer company still here in their original form. Midway, Williams and Atari don't count since none of those companies bear any resemblance to the companies that held those names back in the 80s, by the way.
will all these 12 yr old PS2 fanboys f**k off before i send Jacko round your house's to do things to you.
Nintendo and Xbox will kill playstation :)
go and whine to your mommy's
and now i insert some humerous comedy based on what happens in real life:
"mommy, mommy, buy this game coz it's got "18" on it, so what if it's not good, i play PS2, i'm used to crappy games"
#29 is one of the only people here who actually know what the hell they are talking about. Nintendo has been making quality games before Sony even considered producing game hardware, and they have consistantly produced results. Just because half the people here decide that Wind Waker sucks because it went cel-shaded doesn't mean that the game is bad. Wind Waker, in fact, is one of the best entries in the franchise. Just because Nintendo decides to try new things to please their fans, unlike the tired games on the other systems that rely on FPS, racing, and violence for any support, doesn't mean they should be trodden on by inferior companies. Same goes for the DS. There may not be a lot of good games around right now, but the potential the new hardware brings is incredible. I think that if Nintendo pulls through like I hope they will, Revolution and the new Zelda will get them back on top. Plus, because of their only real weakness being the "kiddy" image many idiots apply to it, Nintendo is working hard to erase this idea with the more mature-appearing views on advertising and games (even though those actually dedicated to gaming knew that there was huge potential in most of the games that were labeled "kiddy"). I have high hopes for Nintendo...I hope they don't let me down.

ok the only thing at E3 thats going to be werth seeing is the nintendo revolution and perfect dark zero/2 and i don't really care if they only show the console and nothing else. oh and another thing is that nintendo rule ok let just get that straight becuase look who's been round for a 100 years..... Nintendo, have they ever become bank rupped..... no, have they lot huge amounts of money ..... no so there you go nintendo will live for ever unlike playstation or xbox... there just the newbies. one more thing please can you all (if you have a DS) sign my petition for Perfect Dark for the DS, so far its going good and i would like more numbers. If you want could you please spreaad the web page around aswell. Thanks

I agree with #29 and #31. Nintendo have been around for ages, and they seem to be the only company going away from the 'great graphics makes a great game' approach microsoft and sony are so eager to support. Nintendo are innovating, and making great new things for the industry. The reason Sony and Microsoft do well is because great looking things gain so much more publicity. I have an Xbox and Gamecube, and even though the GC isn't as good as other Nintendo consoles, it's a great machine that get's far more use than my Xbox. If Nintendo combine their gaming greatness with innovation and graphics that rival Xbox360 and Playstation3, then I have no doubt they'll do very well.
ps. I'd just like to add that I think Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever, The Legend of Zelda series is the greatest gaming series ever, and I can't wait for the latest GC Zelda game.
You are absotively posolutely right 34. zelda:ocarina of time is the most well known, challenging game of all time. If nintendo slaps better graphics on it then it would be bought up like pork and beans at the grocery store. Nintendo is still in the game and I already have the 50 buck to buy the new one
the only reason Sony games and consoles are soaring today is because Nintendo Helped make them. they got off the PS halfway through the project
This is mostly for all the disers of Nintendo. Nintendo, as all gamers know, is pretty much the king of the gameing world. Sony is beating them for one reason right off. N64 came out while Sony came out with the PSX. Cartridge verses cd...it's a no brainer. People are going to go for the cd cause they know it's capable of so much more. The Xbox itself is just a joke. I have more friends that have converted it into a Linux Box rather then keeping it as a gameing cosule. Xbox is primary a computer. Has memory sticks, a hard drive...ya name it. Throw a montior (ie tv) on it, and whoop, there ya go, a computer. The PS2 is leading the way simply because it got so many fans from the PSX. Now, I do admit Nintendo hasn't exactly made the best judgements out there. I personally dispise the the DS, and hope the Revolution turns them around. The NGC was a great system, revolutionizing mini-cds. Lets also mention, that NGC also has the fastest load time comparable to the PS2 and Xbox. Let's not forget about Zelda, Resident Evil, Mario, Final Fantasy, Sonic Games (first game out on NGC), Skies of Arcadia, and so many others are all NGC. For true die hard gamers that fell in love with the Genesis and Dreamcast, let's also mention that Sonic continues to grow on NGC. Now, I do also admit that it is more child related, but you can still argue the fact. RE and games like, BMX XXX were never intended for the eyes for 8 and below, but it's doing something that Xbox and PS2 aren't doing. Attracting younger gamers, continueing on the number of gamers out there. I see more little kids haveing Gamecubs over PS2 and Xbox. It's mostly the older generation that has these systems. The ones, like myself, who will eventually have no more time to play these games. It's called life people, working, higher education, and families. I say if you don't like a system, fine, you don't have to dis other systems. I know I did plenty of that here, but that's merely showing my point. I could continue on you know...Xbox is a huge system. I've seen Tv's smaller then it, and they really expect you to lug this around? I think I rather be careing around a stack of large pizza's....would probally be about the same. The world's going towards smaller. Nintendo started this. Even look at the PS2. It started out ugly and bulky. Now we have the PS2 Slim. Operates exactly the same, 10 times smaller. Either way you look at it, Nintendo isn't going to die. Sega Gamegear came out, was 10 times better then the Gamecube, but who died out and who didn't? I don't see Sega comeing out with any new systems, even though I do have a love for Sonic. Sony and Microsoft will only stay alive for two major reasons, they are already huge companies, and they attract more older generation gamers. Obviously Microsoft isn't going anywhere. They control Windows after all. Sony sure isn't going anywhere either. They are one of the biggest sound and music system platforms out there.
In closeing, everyone that deceides to complain and gripe about all these other systems when they like just one should do some research first. Just cause you like the game quality better on the PS2 doesnt mean that NGC is really horrible or anything. Do some research, get some facts, then propose the arguement. Ya just look like an idiot ranting if ya don't.
I'm sorry. When I commented on the Gamegear dieing, I admit that it was 10 times better then the Gameboy...not Gamecube.
#18 u sadi something about resident evil4 only coming out on the gamecube actually i think sometime this year or soon i dont quiet remeber but that resident evil4 will be available for the ps2 but xbox didnt want to put it on their system guess why cuzz they r selling there games on graphics and resident evil 4 would look like crap on their system so they sadi no! hahahahah micrsoft sucks but well umm they are just beging to piss me off cuzz they bought rare and perfect dark conker and many great games that cam out out for the n64 are coming out with sequals but on the xbox AAAAAA! tahst sucks a lot i really wish thet didnt happen.NIntendo kics ass sega kicks ass and sony kicks ass but microsoft xobox suxks ball cuzz they r going on sedlling games for their graphics wtf! them idiots but it dont matter since f****** bill gates has the money he could fail if he wants which i dont think he wants but yea they could get back on their feet and if they dont with the xobox im sure they are stilll gaining billions and trillions of dollars frm widows and windows componets.... GO NINTENDO!.......................................
umm my spelling errors please dont take taht as me being ignorant im in college its this damn laptop keyboard that i havent quiet gotten used too lol .... yea
lupe
Nintendo is the game making company that I was raised on. That's one reason that I stuck with it so far. But even now Im starting to lose faith in nintendos ability to MAKE LOTS OF GAMES!! Dont get me wrong, ZElda and mario games are great titles and all, but I dont want to play those gemes for years to come. they need to come up with different characters or something. THey could even use the ones they have, like yoshi or something. ANything will work for them at this point.
Wow, PS2 and Gamcube fanboys maybe? Have any of you actually looked and played the Xbox? Halo 1 and 2 are indeed great games. I'm no Xbox fanboy, I'm only stating my opinion because I actually like the challenge of getting used to controls.
Erm, anyways..
I've seen some new pics for how the Revolution might look like, and I must say I am tickled beyond words by what my imagination has come up with. Just remember not to hype it up too much, people expected a lot out of the PSP and a lot of people got disappointed, same with Doom 3.
Well, 'bout time for me to be hitting the ol' duuussstttyyyy trail. ;P
There's a TON of speculation all over the 'net about Nintendo's new console. If even the smallest snippet of it is true the what we can expect to see in 12 days should blow our minds. I've always been a big Nintendo fan. I've played the PS2 and never really had much love for it. The Shitbox I never played cuz I 1. Hate microsoft, and 2. Perfer my FPS on my comp (though I do have 2 or 3 for nintendo). Nintendo has the history and experience to succeed. Although Microsoft and Sony have tried, it's not something you can buy.
Microsoft is touting it's new system as a 'media center' (it's supposed to run a version of Windows Media Center, bleh). While this idea has merit, I'd rather have my console be dedicated soley to games. I hope Microsoft is prepared to lose big this year, cuz Sony and Nintendo will rule.
p.s. btw, we don't need ONE console to rule all out there (though microsoft would love that, bastards), competition is good.
and in response to #41, I know you're not an Xbox fanboy, but besides Halo, what else does the Xbox have? I can't think of anything....
Lots of interesting comments posted here, but it's interesting to see how strongly some peoples opions are influenced by advertising. Nintendo never "failed" at hardware, Microsoft just beat them in marketing (in north america). Arek the Wild (41) makes a good point "we don't need ONE console to rule all out there, competition is good." if you don't like Nintendo don't buy their system but you're wasting your time as well as ours when you come in here and trash the game cube. to those who know the truth , you look like an idiot. sadly, you have become another piece of Microsoft's marketing strategy. I don't know where this misconception comes from that the Xbox has the best graphics. (wait, yes it do )it is true it supports more polygons, but the game cube makes up for this with better textures. (and way fater loading times to) I was unimpressed by Halo 2. I must admit though, Microsoft did have a great marketing strategy with the xbox. I laughed when I heard it cost somthing like $600.00 when it first hit the market. with a price tag that big, people assumed they were getting something futuristic and better. then when everyone who was willing to pay that much had paid it they drop the price for the next demographic. kind of underhanded, that's what's called "good business" in this world. from interviews I've read with the higher ups at Nintendo, their goal seems to be more focused on creating artistic and innovative advancement. no one can deny the first's they brought to the video game industry in the past. I'm sure they will continue to do so in the future.
The only reason that the Gamecube is in third place, is cause Nintendo back in the day decided to opt out of the CD's and go with Cartridges. That is the biggest mistake they have ever made. All of the third party support went to Playstation and that is what Nintendo is still trying to fix today. The hardware is fine i mean i would pic the visuals that Gamecube can do over any other system. Nintendo's second biggest mistake was to not go online with the Gamecube (i don't want anyone to even mutter the words PSO). If it wasn't for those two things that they didn't even attempt to do for which reason i still can't even begin to ponder they would most likely still be #1. I mean i remember cartridges being as much as $120 in Canada and that was like 75-80 American and that is rediculous and that i went Sony buried them. Xbox by far has the best online play i mean i hate the EVIL EMPIRE-Microsoft but that is something they did well. Nintendo was to old fashioned and i think have learned and hopefully thier R&D comes up with something good.

I agree with Clu, the Gamecube deserves no negative response i mean the machine i flawless compared to the other two (well the hard drive is nice in the xbox) But console gaming wouldn't be the same if Nintendo wasn't in it. Its bad enough that Sega had to leave but then agian all good times come to an end. When a Nintendo Executive was asked about if Sony and Microsoft systems will be to much competition he responded "the direction they are going isn't wrong it is just the same direction they were going before" Nintendo always brings innovation and what he ment by the same direction is Sony and Microsoft are just going to be slapping the same ports just more powerful hardware and if Nintendo can bring something different in terms of interactivity (if that is a word)or a new user interface, they will jump straight to the top. Nintendo is also going to be coming out with something i'm sure on caliber in terms of hardware too. They can be a little slow but they aren't stupid.

"what's a brower? is that some gaycube terminology?"
wow. with this statement you have just proved that you know nothing about games or computers. Internet Explorer is a browser. that new fox thing is a browser. something you use to see websites is a browser. and i can't wait to see the Revolution.
#6.......... dont show your ignorance, its embarrasing.
I don't understand the nintendo haters on this webpage. If you don't like it don't come, I agree with comment #6. Nintendo is going to make a great show at E3, Nintendo is going to beat out PS, and I think even Xbox, Halo2 didn't change from the first Halo. And that's all they got. Xbox also will be practically the same. While The Nintendo Revolution will be backward compatible and have bluetooth, along with Wi-fi capabilities. I think through E3, Nintendo will show the World what they are capable of doing with their systems.
