Nokia intros 5140i fitness phone
All right, fitness geeks, Nokia's got sumthin' for you. The 5140i is a tri-band handset designed for "active-minded consumers" (as opposed to the rest of us sluggishly-minded folk) that offers dust and splash resistance and "durability," which is apparently not a feature found in other phones. The deal with this mobile is it pairs up with special fitness-related software on Polar wrist computers (yeah, that means they're watches) to download training data to your phone after a workout. The software keeps track of stats you fitness-types need to know, like heartrate and other various sundries (we wouldn't have any idea — they never let us out of Engadget HQ). It's also got a built-in Fitness Coach application to spur you on during that last mile, so you can fire your insanely expensive personal trainer as well as stop begging your friends to call you up at 27:32 into your daily run. Beyond whipping you into shape for the next Olympics, the Nokia 5140i also packs a built-in FM radio, Push-to-Talk, and the Nokia Xpress audio messaging functionality, which lets you send voice messages to others over GPRS (which for some reason is more advantageous than leaving them voicemail, or just talking to them in person for crissakes).

dope. love nokia phones ad this might be a nice alternative to that siemens (m265?)...nokia had sometihng like this before but it was blue, as i recall..and generally more stupid looking than this one. although ill still be buying a treo; bluetooth will take care of whatever functions this has over it.

This phone has been out on Nokia's site for at least 6 to 8 months now. I have usually seen it in blue and red, not black.

you are confusing 5140 and 5140i. this is a new phone. although it's probably the same just with some new software and maybe an updated camera.
i would be much more interested if it didn't have a camera. i refuse to buy a phone with a camera. just dont want it. definitely don't want to pay for it.

Say what you will about Nokia's "durable" phones but i've been using a Nokia 5100 as my spare phone for a few years. It goes places my Treo can't. Like concerts or hiking, etc. I can use it in the rai, drop it on a rock, anything, it's solid.

I really loved this phone. It has all the features, I was looking for. Personally speaking, I love every Nokia set.

I like every set of Nokia but this one is superb in every aspect. I like bell shaped outlook of this set very much.

I got the 5140i with Xpress-on GPS shell (for free at subscription renewal). I had the 5100 before. The 5100 is more rugged than the 5140i, imho. But there are so many functions on the 5140i. I picked this one despite the camera (it's only VGA [640x480]). The flashlight on the 5140i is better, though. And it's the smallest GPS-package I have seen so far!
