O'Neill's H2 solar backpack
We're not sure that it's very fair of O'Neill to call their new H2 the first integrated solar backpack, but damned if it isn't one of the nicer ones we've seen around these parts of late. Not only does it rock USB-based charging of devices, it's also got extensive iPod integration (you know, we really should get one of those) not only via a control panel in the left shoulder strap, but also via its integrated Bluetooth module, which connects to a mic system in the straps—when you get a phone call, the H2 will automatically pause your iPod and put it through. Unfortunately, this is Europe only for right now, so keep your pants on while O'Neill sorts their stuff out in getting 'em across the pond.

Europe!? WAHEY! Hang on, that includes the UK!? Where do you get this?
Where can I buy one? I can't find a link!
Not that I could afford it, but even so...
Nifty. How many thousand will this set me back?

What's the deal with this? I can't find it anywhere on the web, how much is it and when's it being released in the UK? Come on guys, more information, that's sloppy journalism if ever i saw it.
Josh,
Unless you're not mentioning something, you're probably in no position to question our journalism. Please see our FAQ (http://announcements.engadget.com/entry/4115667355611978/, specifically questions 6 and 7). In other words, if we knew, we'd tell you, but the best we can do is "fall/winter 2005". Thanks.
Best,
Ryan
How delicate would those solar cells be on the bag? Most people I know don't treat their backpacks with the care solar cells would probably need. But I guess if you're willing to pay however many hundreds of dollars for this bag, you should be willing to change your habbits a bit.
HMMM...looks like a modified AMP-PACK to me ..glances @ amp pack on floor YEP it is
Integrate the solar recharging system into a bigger hiking pack and it would be perfect for long backpacking trips!
I probably can't afford it, anyway.
oooooh, beautiful. I remember seeing an o'neil jacket with integrated bluetooth and an mp3 player in it with the control on the sleeves in a magazine [2 years ago around Christmas time?] and I immediately wanted it. The only problem was that they only shipped to europe. I occasionally would check up on the site to see if they came over here, but once I got an ipod I stopped caring. Now that it is for an ipod WITH bluetooth I have got to get one of these for college ... or something like that. I like that you can use the headphones for bluetooth. Very james bondish speaking into your collar. Ill have to check these out this summer as well as constantly scouring eBay for one.
Dudes, I got one coming my way! O'neill uerope is a customer of mine and I made some calls and voila!
So this summer I'll be chargin' outa da house!
i sore this in a mag and it said £100 is this true and will i t work with a zen mirco???
mikey
how did you get one? who did you speak too at oneil europe ive been trying for ages to get one i cant find it anywhere?!!
help!!!!!!!!!!
I've been google-ing or a few days now and so far I have not seen any word on the us release or buying it online, however a couple of sites have listed the price to be 170 pounds or 307.097 us dollars, and another site listed the price as 110 pounds or 198.724 dollars
personally, I would rather believe the latter.

I've just got one for my best friend. It took me 2 weeks to get the real one from O'neill. The stuff told me that there was only one in stock from my local shop. Anyway, not many people can afford it.
This would appear to be the solution to one of the biggest problems of all adveture sports. Someone must know what price are these things retailing for?
These things would be great for backcountry snowboarding and snowboard touring:

Yes this new H2 range back pack looks ace and our bands music will be being used on the wordwide TV advertising for this product too, which we are pretty chuffed about to say the least.
The Mexicolas
170 pounds :)
Does anyone know how it compares to the Voltaic? Also does the h2 come with a battery pack to hold a charge when there is no sunlight? I'm just trying to compare the two and decide which to get.
