The KeyPix Digital Picture Keychain
Not sure why you'd pay fifty bucks to look at digital photos on something which has a smaller screen and less memory
than your cellphone, but Ritz Camera is carrying the KeyPix, a "Digital Picture Keychain" with a low-quality one-inch
LCD screen and a scant 512KB (that's kilobytes, people) of memory. This must either be old, grossly overpriced, or
both.

They should up the memory to 1024k and add the ability to play mp3s. That'd ruin Apple.

I could MAYBE see a company GIVING these away as a promotional item or something... but $50 for that? Insane.

For half the price it'd make a great novelty item. They should add the function to record a few seconds of sound to go with the mugshot.
Yes it's overpriced, but it's a change from the dozens of portable movie players that get rammed down our throats at the moment.

You don't need much storage for a 12-bit 96x48 screen. It says right on the product page it stores 56 images. More than enough for something like this.
A while ago I bought a Dazzle CF reader with built-in RCA video out for slideshows on your TV. I used an old 32MB with it, and had more storage than I could ever use. I just dumped all my images on the card at 640x480. Each image was 300 images.
Before that, I had a Microsoft Photo Viewer, which did the same thing with floppies. Compressing the images a bit further gave me 30-some images on a floppy.
Now I use XBMC on my XBox, pointing it directly at my pictures share on the network. The P3 processor in the XBox makes short work of even 6MPixel images. :)

My phone has about that size, probably less.. but my mobile/cell is just a basic 'pre-3G' phone (O2 X1i)

Not that its a great deal, but seriously see if you can design and manufacture 1,000 of these at much less than $50/unit

I recently purchased the keychain for my mothers birthday and one for myself. They are really cool for what they do. I think the screen could be a little bigger for the size of the keychain. The bottem button doesn't work very well but it might just be my particular device. My mother hasn't opened hers yet to compare it to.
