Microsoft unveiling Windows Mobile 2005 next week
You can sort of file this one under "Open Secrets," but RCR Wireless News (among other sources) is confirming that
Microsoft is going to formally take the wraps off
Windows Mobile 2005 (aka Magneto),
the next version of their operating system for mobile devices, at Mobile and Embedded DevCon 2005 in Las Vegas next
week. Doesn't mean you'll be able to get it in a phone right away, so don't be upset when Verizon intros the Samsung
i730 next month (or whenever it drops) and it's running Windows Mobile 2003 SE. Or at least, be upset, but don't be
surprised.
[Thanks, Omar]

Microsoft unveiling another crappy sorry excuse to extend their monopoly with the Windows Mobile 2005 next week
Does it really hurt to wait until it is out before we make judgements? If it is not the greatest thing since sliced bread then move on to something better. Why continue to hate. If this new operating system ends up being great, will all the haters quit hating?
Comment #1 by Stalfos is obviously from an individual who has never used a Windows Smartphone or a Pocket PC. Please ignore anything said on this topic by Stalfos.
Windows Mobile SE Phone Edition is an excellent wee OS.
CAn't think of how they could improve really, which is why I'm not excited about this new one.
Comment #2 by Quay is obviously from an individual who has never used a Windows Smartphone or a Pocket PC. Please ignore anything said on this topic by Quay.
Comment #4 by matt is by someone who has never used any form of pda or smartphone:
I hate microsoft, but if i were to get a pda right now it'd have to be windows mobile.... I hope it plays nice with isync...
Comment #s 1-4 all came to this site and commented before me. I have a windows smartphone and I happen to think that WM2003 is pretty good. I'm on an MPx220 (the mother of all problem phones), so I may attribute some problems that might be WM problemes to the Moto. Who knows. Please ignore anything I say on this topic, as someone will probably tell you to do so later anyway!
To #3, Mr. Fluffles:
I have used both Smartphone and Pocket PC extensively. If you have anything intelligent to say on this topic, why don't you say it instead of childishly mimicking a previous post. As for #1 Stalfos, he obviously has nothing intelligent to say.
whoop-de-dooo
To #6, Quay:
I have used both Smartphone and Pocket PC extensively. If you have anything intelligent to say on this topic, why don't you say it? As for #2 Quay, you obviously have nothing intelligent to say.
Mr. Fluffles are you in third grade?
#9, my parents tell me it's only because I'm "special".
Bah, I'm not young, I'm just immature.
Doody-heads.
childish comments aside, the background on that snapshot does eerily look like it came out of OS X
Only morons would want to use that crap called Windoze on mobile phone. It's crap from mobiles to desktops.
Only a moron like #13 Sebhelyesfarku would think that he's actually in a position to comment on this topic when he's obviously never used Windows Smartphone. Please ignore anything Sebhelyesfarku has to say on this topic.
wonder what features they will remove before ship time...
The REAL question should be: will the new WM release come bundled with music from Audioslave and MxPx, who are both releasing new albums this week? Or will it be the same old corporate rock?
Question for Paul Allen in post #3: What the heck is up with the Mini-PC that you have been developing over at Vukcan for the last 2 years (and which was under development at the company that you bought the concept from for 2 years before that? And now Bill says he may release a Mini Tablet PC by 2007? This isn't rocket science , you know!
I'm currently running a Samsung i600 are the older smartphones, like mine and the Moto MP going to be able to run 2005?
...
Sorry, Windows-apologist dorkels, Windows sucks on a mobile device; no wonder, Windows sucks in general!
Yeah, I spent my cash trying out the latest and greatest, and I'd be surprised to find them make anything better than a mouse.
So go suck it, inexperienced padawan-learner closet MCSE chump.

Iomatic is just another pathetic loser who thinks he's in a position to comment on this topic without actually knowing anything about the product in question. Please ignore anything said on this topic by iomatic.
Quay, do you receive much money from Bill Gates?
Here is a review of the new MS phone OS, Magneto

poster #24 dave from walker is gay!
I think WM2005 (Why not WM2006 instead?) is going to be Smartphone and PDA-bound, but that's just me.
I'm really worried about the battery life on devices running on Windows Mobile--while recent WM devices have shown an improvement on battery life, I have a little bit of a doubt if WM is going to be more efficient on battery life, much like their mouse family has always been uber-efficient on alkaline battery life.
Second of all, WM2005 should be 100% Bluetooth 1.2 compliant. I have ran into a HCL Warning issue when I attempted to install a Bluetooth Device on my Windows-powered PC and I get this "HCL Warning" that I dread. Anyone know if the latest "Safe" Windows Mobile release is fully compatible with Bluetooth?
Finally, I'm just hoping that there would be no more crashes on Windows Mobile. I realized that MS has been doing a lot of unnecessary coding on most of their operating systems, but to me, WM2005 MUST prove that it's going to be a product that I can use on my future smartphone purchases, no crashes, everything.
