Cingular to get the HP iPAQ hw6500 in September?
iPAQabilities just scooped up a few more details about HP's new iPAQ hw6500 series of Mobile Messenger Pocket PC Phones. Much of it we already more or less knew, like that there will two versions, the hw6515, which comes with a built-in digital camera, and a camera-less version called the hw6510. No WiFi, and neither phone will run on Windows Mobile 5.0, but HP will rollout a successor called the hw6700 sometime around the end of the year with both of those features. The really frustrating news is that Cingular isn't slated to carry either the hw6510 or the hw6515 until sometime in Septemeber

The post has been removed on iPAQabilities. Anyone have a cache of it?
So what does that mean for the Siemens SX66 which Cingular recently started selling? Doesn't that device fill thesame niche for Cingular? Rumors are that it's being dropped and this would explain why but where does that leave all the people that purchased the SX66, which DOES have WIFI and runs Skype nicely? Interesting choice of platforms huh?
I don't think the SX66 fills the nitch, for one simple reason not EDGE based, and the keyboard is flimsy at best. Reality is that if HP wants to make the kill the phone has to be release now, no later then June.
A September date means that Windows Mobile 5.0 will be out on the market for a while and no one wants a new device with an old O/S. Also by that time the 6700 series will be making more news, which means people like me rather wait for the 6700, WI-FI and Windows Mobile 5.0 included, hello
Sounds like I want to wait for the hw6700, given the delay in shipping the hw6500.
Besides, what's a new PocketPC device without WiFi good for these days besides the basic PIM functions?
bummer for no wm5. whats the point, otherwise? and no wifi? you know this will cost 500+ without a contract...i think i can wait :]
(i assume these both have bt, otherwise..erm. yeah)
With Windows Mobile 5.0 out, this thing is already obsolete even before it comes out. HP only annouced an upgrades for it's current generation of stand-alone PDA's and not it's mobile communicators (6300, 6500). Will the 6700 really come with WM5?
No wifi... that just aged this phone by a year or more...
Flimsy keyboard or not, the SX66 still offered better features. To bad it's battery life is/was terrible.
I like the Samsung SPH-M4300, http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000917042873/
Fat chance we'll see that one soon though, and if so most likely on Verizon... :(
On the Dutch web-shop centralpoint.nl the Hw6515 istated for the following price: €627.91 (incl. VAT) without a contract. The current satus of the stock is "0" unfortunately...
