Sony PlayStation 3 for 2005?

Sony's obviously feeling the pinch from all the Xbox 360 buzz going on right now, since apparently their CFO Takao Yuhara was quoted as stating (in so many words) that Sony was considering a 2005 launch for the PS3: "For the year end sales season, simultaneously building up both the PlayStation Portable system in America and Europe as well as the next generation PlayStation is one option that we have." We're not sure what kinds of stops they'd have to pull out to make this happen, but we'd assume it'd be, um, all of them. We'll let you know more next week at the unveiling though, yeah?
I'm calling sony's bluff. They don't have the balls to throw together a system in the waning months until XBOX 360's release. Plus it's stupid! I know a hundred ppl with XBOXs and PS2s, and they'll probably buy PS3 and XBOX 360 after a price drop. It really comes down to games; HALO 3 and Perfect Dark 0 are microsoft exclusive and each won game of the year for their respective consoles. With a merger on 360, sony is in deep $h!# if they don't bring out the big guns: Metal Gear, GTA, and some more tricks from out of their @$$.
I have a PS2 and am perfectly happy except for one thing- Xbox Live. And Halo 2, of course. So I have decided this: I love Nintendo's games, as well as many third-party games, as well as the games only on Xbox. So I am getting the Revolution and Xbox 360. Many of the games for PS2 are also for Xbox. The only real game I can think of that I actually want for PS2 that's not for Xbox is God of War.
I personally think that people should buy Xbox 360 just to get Halo 3. That's how good it is.
Don't even get me started with Nintendo's games. Nintendo made a few mistakes with the Gamecube, but their games are astounding. Resident Evil 4, both Metroid Primes, Star Fox Assault, The Wind Waker.... the list goes on and on, not to mention the new Zelda game that's coming out. While Nintendo does reach out to smaller children, it still has many, many games for older children and adults. The real thing with Sony and Microsoft is, they don't develop many games. Especially with Microsoft.

summer 2006 would not be, as you say, "a few months".
backward support is definitely neccessary. it'll probably lose some customers if they don't have it. now with the xbox... that's another story.
the ps2 price is not, as you say, "low". it has dropped 50 bucks. 50. it is 150 dollars. that is not very low. i mean sure its a low price, but compared to the gamecube's drop it's nothing.
o yes, and the new ps2 being "so small" is completely irrelevant. i have no idea why u said nything about that.
the nintendo will also be backwards compatible, so all those gems released for the gamecube will be playable on the revolution.
I think I will go for the nintendo becasue of the games... Mario, Zelda etc..
hm. I was under the impression that the XBox PR peeps were mum on backwards compatibility? They would say nothing on it when questioned. I would think that if it were quite likely that it was possible to play xbox 1 games, they'd say "we're working on it" rather than, "no comment on that"...
At any rate. It looks like xBox is making a bigger push to widen its current game genre circle. Remember that Live will be tiered - so it'll be free - to a point. You know, the point where you actually want to get content and play games...
i belive that microshit x360 is just going to be another N64. all of the faithfull need to stand by playstation 3 and anyone else with impure thoughts needs to go the the 360
roflmao MicroShit, thats hilarious, but yeah, I doubt the ps3 will ever come on the market, im assuming that it will be out sometime NEXT year, they have to be fucking insane if they were to sell it for like $400, that was crazy when I to pay that much for my ps2, so try to wait longer people, its not that big of deal, sure im a gammer, but I also have a life.

How can people make out that if Sony releases the PS3 late in 2005 that it's a rush job.It's been in the making for best part of five years now.I would say if any console is a rush job it's Microsoft's Xbox360(crap name,crap design).

the only light i can shed for you is... come to reality, not everyone has a tv that is widescreen or lcd. of course it work on regular and non lcd plasma widescreens. both companies would be stupid not to make it that way. also u can't burn lines into an LCD screen or a DLP screen only plasma screens, which makes them pieces of crap

Just took a look at the Hitachi owners manual and it clearly says stay away from those games because it will potentially cause screen burn. Also the games say do not use projection TV's.
The sony ps3 is expected to be at least 2 times faster and 2 times better graphics than the xbox 360. As the xbox's ram and graphics are shared and the ps3's are sepparated. The ps3 will run at 2.18 teraflops and the xbox only half of this number

none of you know what your talking about. Wait until the damn systems come out and compare them. All I can say is Gears of war looks pretty damn impressive and the specs for Xbox 360 looks like its designed to play games. The Cell isnt. It can do alot of calculations but they have very little use for game applications.
I love the PS2, but sony has said that the PS3 isnt going to focus on gaming and that has me disappointed. Honestly, after finding out that KZ 2 was totally CGI and Gears of War is all ingame running at 30% of what the 360 can really do, I dont think the PS3 will stand a chance. At 30% it rivals a CGI movie, but running real-time ingae on a real game engine. Thats insane. If the PS3 looks better than that then its actual Killzone 2 game will have to look better than that CGI movie, and I dont think the company that made first killzone is capable of that. That was a terrible FPS, hands down.
