The Plasma Mug
The Plasma Mug produces a unique lighting effect via "advanced plasma technology" that will bore your
friends to the point of chewing out their own tongues impress and amaze your friends. Of course, this only
works when coupled with the stylish (yet dull) electronic coaster. You can even touch and interact with the plasma if
you were so inclined. For that matter, you could also stare directly at the Sun. The Plasma Mug works with hot or cold
beverages and runs on 8 (!) AA batteries or AC power supply (not included, seriously). It can be yours for the low, low
price of $25US.

So if you drop it, is there a plasma containment breach on deck 1?
8 AAs ? Thats it? Why not 16 ? :-P It should ship with a adapter or something....
It seems interesting for the price though....
Well, if it ain't USB-powered I ain't interested.
Thinkgeek.com has had these for a while, if i recall correctly they just got them back in stock
Wow, this has only been for sale on ThinkGeek for MONTHS. And if you read the post, it does come with an AC adaptor.
Looks like someone was hoping for a Star Trek product placement. Guess they should have checked to see if it was still in production first.
Once upon a time, we saw characters drinking from our Crate & Barrel votives in 10 Forward. In the future, we will be drinking from candle holders, apparently.
#5, if you look closer, it says...
Built-in AC Adapter Jack (Power supply sold seperately)
Why not just get the plasma globe for your desk and be done with it?
I used to work with a guy who bought this mug on ThinkGeek. He turned on the base once just after he got it to show us how "cool" it was. Then the mug sat on his desk looking ordinary for the rest of the time he worked here, at least six months. This was a guy for whom money was not an issue where a geeky, pointless gadget was concerned.
You know, of all the writers on these "gadget" sites, you make me laugh the hardest. You're not only insightful and informative, but you're pretty funny, dude.
Engadget isn't doing a very good job today. Posting old or not interesting storeis.
welcome to 5 years ago.
Arf! Arf?
these have been out for over 2 years....
If you power this via USB, you'll have to shut down your CPU =D... Hasn't thinkgeek.com been selling these things for years?
Just the thing 1337 hax0rz need for a late night of hax0r-ing.
Fragile as all heck. Picked up and put one down at Spenser Gifts when it was on the clearance rack. Just putting it down at an angle not only cracked it, but due to the vacuum there was glass everywhere.
I agree with D - you are one funny writer. But I'm worried about you - maybe you should have a holiday? You get funnier when you're peeved, mind.
#7, if you look cloer, you will see that it was post #5 that you are referring to.
What's to keep the user from electrocuting themselves while using this thing? I smell a lawsuit.
This may not be a new product but the post was well worth reading just for the comedic value. :-)
10, 11, & 13
Yeah...it's a shame that the person who writes this stuff isn't omniscient like you guys. I'm glad all you superior people can put him in his place.

It's pretty cool for $25. But seriously, what do you do with these "Plasma" thing. Much like a REALLY flashy Computer Case full of modded lights and such, it's not something you'd want on your desktop. The lights are super-distracting after awhile.
Of course, just being useless and annoying hasn't stopped myself from buying no less then 5 different "Lightning/Plasma" toys. They all collect dust, even my last acquisition, the "Star Showers" Plasma Hourglass.
So, of course, I've just GOT to own this one too! Maybe I shouldn't be allowed to have money?
