Nintendo Revolution: What we know

Alright, Nintendo intro'd the Revolution just a few minutes ago, here's what we know so far:

Release is sometime in 2006.

Prototype shown is larger than final unit.

Nintendo is still determining final colors for the console.

All-Access Gaming, which refers to backwards compatibility to 20 years of Nintendo games, NES, SNES, N64. We don't know particulars of how it'll be accessed or what, if any, the cost structure might be.

Downloadable to 512MB of flash memory.

SD memory card slot.
-
Wireless controllers.
-
Two USB 2.0 ports.
-
Built-in WiFi.
-
WiFi used to interface with the DS.
-
DS likely to enhance future games.
-
Self-loading optical drive that will play 12cm Revolution discs and smaller GameCube discs

Self-contained attachment for playing media content, including DVDs.

No controller was shown. So even though the box looks a lot like the one leaked over the weekend, the accompanying controllers were not presented. So was it a leak, or a really good guess?

Apparently noone cares. I'm gonna wait, just like I did a couple months back for E3 05, yet nothing. Although I will still anticipate for this upcoming event, the power of curiousity and the generated hype makes me want to see the unvealing of the revolution controller and it's other specs as soon as possible. I will be gusrding the comupter on that(those) day(s) for this supposed 'gaming revolution' to commence, yet ,maybe, once again, nothing.
well let see here guys.... I seriously love nintendo for all their efforts into the land of innovation. I currently own all of nintys systems and it looks like the rev will be next. i dont know why everyone is so biased towards nintendo...heck, everyone should thank them for introducing their remarkable franchises; mario, zelda , kong, pikmin, and the list goes on! seriously people, nintendo continues to and forever will be a GAMING company that is true to video game players out there. I dont know what sony or ms are up to, but a whole bunch of contraptions on your system shouldnt make a video game better. I really dont get it....im in it to play and play games is what i will do. once again, I salute nintendo for what they are doing for their community and you should too. hurrah for nintendo!!! they shall live in the hearts of true gamers for life.

I get the same thing, I learned to ignore them.
Although I think it has something to do with going backwards, ya know, when you click the "back" button on the top left hand corner of your screen.
Its hard to imagine but how could hologenetic software enhance game ( if that is the case).
I DO reckon that this time round nintendo may get it right ( not that there was anything wrong with the gamecube, a wicked piece of kit) but they have heard the cries of the public upon ' maturity ' and ' up dating their image ' in the wake of todays changing society. During the 16 bit era you only had Sega and Nintendo. It was easy for developers to create for either one and generate simplistic styles games. I suppose for me I do get tiny bit bitter on some developers that leap from a success platform to another. Square soft ( Square Enix now) leaving Nintendo in favor for Sony I felt was a treachous move, who knows how many Nintendo 64 units could have been sold with the strengths of Final Fantasy as well as Dragon Quest games alone, still they came back with their heads between their hairy ass legs. Too many developers are so dam self consience about whether they can deliever good games. Developers in a sense do have a controll of the kinds of games they develop in the end altering peoples public opion upon a systems console.
( The Only good thing that came of that era was the coming of Rare bringing to us perhaps the best games on the planet during that time)
No need to mention Nintendo in this catagory, they are the Don on teaching, schooling EVERY one on how creativity is done
Anyway, sorry for that rant folks.
Nintendo Are going to reveal something that will REVOLUTIONIZE how we all play games. Sony and MS are still on that same tune of making games so like to play it safe by up dating the graphics and adding features that attracts people who want more from their systems then what is primary important ............. GAMES.( A chicken shit-ass move buy adding multiple features but in the end must realize that they are catering to hard core gamers who deserve to experience something much, MUCH more)
Nintendo are an expert at this and want to take it to the next level. They want YOU to experience something that hasn't been done, so If both Sony and MS offer more or less the same things Nintendo are more or less Saying ' were going this route, if your interested follow us '. They are risk takers that at least have the bare faced balls to take chances on wild ideas and crazy concepts that when won over by their audience would only be stolen by their competitors, however the outcome ( never ever had the chance to play the virtual boy when it was realeased, shame that. )

Nintendo 64 - The anolog stick, Camera views and Rumble pack
Gamecube - Anolog buttons
Revolution - ?????????

honestly i think that the revolution seem's hot but uncol in the way of the old games. When will nintendo come with some real rpg games, actions games, no friking kids or babies games they will never beat the ps 3 or xbox 360 beacuse of the woozy games. i hope they made kicking ass games not the same as re-doing the old games with better graphic. i want new shit ight and ps3 seems like is hot
Sega hands down had the best game franchises. Sonic
will always be a badass front runner with attitude. Sega needs to get it's
act together and resurrect Toe Jam and Earl, Kid Camelean, Golden Axe,
StarControl, SubTerrainia, and Bubsy. Bubsy was a pimp; he had a Nerf
Ballzooka and a watersuit. Nothing holds a candle to Bubsy. StarControl
and SubTerrainia were games ahead of thier time. I can only imagine how
they could enhance the graphics and game play of games like that.
StarControl was the best. You had RPG, RTS, and First person shooter all in
one, you had a role to play, while you tried to strategize your
expansion over the whole galaxy, and you used the first person shooter in
actual battles. It had everything in one.
First off, pleast stop the pathetic theorizing on holographic gaming. No way, no how, not today. Maybe 2 console generations away.
Interesting claims the RevPatentLeaker makes after blah, blah, blahing about September 16th.
"the white one gives seven...? we need not seven...we have gone past seven" - the PS3 will allow for 7 controllers but the Revolution will allow for MORE ... like 10:
"the six await* and four are aware* ...and the informer* that cannot be trusted has unveiled itself" - talking about the 360, 4 controllers are aware, but 6 "await" playing.
"for the green one is weak*, and the white one is despearte...upon a single line of 7*. ..that does nothing but float*.. and a fused pipe* ..better but not ingenious" - calls the 360 "weak" and the Cell processor "better but not ingenious". I don't agree with the CPU power argument (system power is far more relevant) but this infers that the Revolution CPU can do more than 1 teraflop (360) but not 2 teraflops (PS3).
"12* configurations* will have aligned into one" - the controller has 12 configurations.
I guess we'll all find out on the 16th. So far I think, RevPatentLeaker has claimed 10 gyroscopic controllers with 12 possible configurations for the controllers and a system that has a CPU performance better than the 360 but not as good as the PS3. The latest point is irrelevant since developers are finding it far easier to code for the 360 than the PS3 currently.
I still want to know how it'll connect to the 360 in a few years.
Sega are alright, I would love it if they did bring Golden Axe to the revolution, AS AN EXCLUSIVE ( but what are the chances of that happening, they'll port them over to the other consoles ). Thats what I mean with some developers, Oh it was no problem for them to do all kinds of games for the snes, but now that the industry has introduced Sony and MS in to play what do they do? jump ship and deliver the games you would have seen on Nintendo. WHY CAN'T THEY DEVELOP THE SAME GAMES FOR THEM AS WELL.
All THESE game developers need to really shake off this stupid image of nintendo being a console ' just for kids ' BECAUSE ITS NOT!
E.g look at Goldeneye, Killer Instinct and Perfect dark from Rare, this gave them more crediblity .
Nintendo are slowly getting the respect they deserve but developers need to wake them selves up, Nintendo give developers the oppertunatey to create games that allow for a newer experience of enjoyment, you CAN'T keep basing arguements on graphics alone.
You can always update graphics but how to play a game, well thats a whole different kettle of fish.

ok, ive read all these comments and i wanna make one now without people getting mad and start a huge debate
to me, i have played on all the current gen systems, and in my opinion xbox is the worst console out of the three, because my shitty-ass computer has the same specs as it (besides the gpu of course) and i dont really feel as if im actually playing the game (im trying to say i dont like the gameplay)
now the ps2 is o.k. but i dont really like it
i feel the same way for the gc as the ps2
now for the nexgens
the ps3 (to me) looks kool except for the spiderman font, and maybe they make the controller the way they dide because it is more comfortable and fitting to the hand, not to the eyes
also i like some of the games that they are gonna be selling at release date too
the xbox360 looks ok, but it reminds me (dont know y) of the dell inspiron xps gen5, but i really acknowledge the games they are coming out with at release date
now for the rev man
i personally think this is the most wicked and smart thing to do, and i'll give u my reasons (they are not reasons you have to consider, this is just what i think)
1. i love how they dont make them on regular cds or dvds and stuff, cuz it makes it so hard for piracy
2. the whole idea of a slot is pretty kool because i know people who have their trays break or get damaged
3. i like the way they conceal everything, to me its a very smart thing to do, for example, sony said the ps2 gonna do this and that when it was in the making, but then people got pissed off cuz they didnt do wut they said they would, and being quiet about everything takes away that risk because if your not telling them wut ur gonna do, then they prolly wont get mad if u dont do it.
4. the choice of colors is good too, for example, if u have siblings (younger or older) that want a different color than the one you want (this is only if the parents are over-considerate) then u can just get two, which will increase the sales (i know some pretty stupid people that didnt buy a ps2 just because it wasnt white). i also think that if u get your choice of color, you are getting the freedom to express your personality and such with different colors
5. my final point is that to me, the ps3 and xbox360 have tried to make the look so amazing to the eye that no matter whats inside, people are gonna get it, but i like things that are simple on the outside, but crazy on the inside, for example (would u have sex with a hot as hell girl that has hiv but doesnt tell you, or are you gonna have sex with a hot girl that doesnt have hiv)
who knows, maybe 'broadway' is some crazy processor that is much more capable (its like comparing a 2 lane highway with an 8 lane)
and maybe a 'hollywood' gpu is prolly the most expensive gpu to make but also the most effective

the 'nintendo revolution' will mark the definition of next generation gaming. This is cos' there are the only one's actually keeping in mind the true gamer's needs & in that i'm refering to pricing (their consoles compared to the competition at the time of release), originality (the metroid franchise), inovation (meteos), replay value (nintendogs) and of course crack like addicting sequels (legeng of zelda:twilight princess). Unlike the competition, u've got SONY with a very high reputation of making promises they can't keep e.g: that the ps2 would be as powerful as a super computer & u'd just need 20,000 of those to stop a tyrant like sadam hussein. we all know how that turned out, ur ps2 could not even compute the specs of a game like doom3 let alone do basic programming. And let's not 4get they also said the ps3 would run in the excesses of 4gigs. now they humbly say it will run on about 3.2-3.5gigs, which i still will not belive it untill i see it. Don't 4get too that they claimed that the tech demos shown at E3 this year were running real time while all the best programmers in the world who make these games mind you, don't believe it (meaning it's all a farse). Coming to xbox 1.5 or xbox 360, as u would all like to call it, it's just a mere upgrade to it pioneering console, it offers nothing new which the remaining competition can't handle, that's why they are so keen to launch first but at least they are better than sony in terms of delivering promises & coming from a mother company that makes computers, i won't be suprised if it (xbox 360) comes with windows explorer and u have to upgrade some components in your console every few years which only the microsoft company sells. these guys only care about making money off u guys out there. almost all their games play and feel like pc games, no originality except the mighty halo (mind you that was supposed to be a pc game b4 microsoft bought it.) and the upcoming perfect dark which funnily nintendo sold to them. microsoft can only give scraps of what the top dogs think and throw out as trash. What more can i say, i rest my case. NINTENDO WILL RULE AGAIN, then there will be peace in all the galaxies and the dark side will be no more.

It is great that the level of support for nintendo hasn't droped and hopfully widen the appeal to others ( opening a NEWER audience).

It occurred to me the other night that Nintendo is a genius at marketing. Do you remember how they kept GCN a secret for years, under the "Dolphin" codename, and everyone was all like "Wow, I wish I knew more!" Then they finally released some footage from the system, and everyone went wild for a couple months, and then the system sold out really quickly (at least where I live). They did the same type of thing with DS... "Wow, what could 2 screens be used for?" With Revolution, it's the new controller. Nintendo always wait's til just the right time, right before everyone either explodes or gets bored! As for the specs on Xbox 360 and PS3 being better than Revolution, you have to remember that NINTENDO HAS NOT EVEN RELEASED SPECS YET. Plus remember when Sony was saying PS2 had so much power, and that it would cream GCN in performance? Well, it turned out that Sony was only using calculated figures, and not actually testing them with games. So it was only a fraction as powerful as they said it would be. That's probably the main reason Nintendo hasn't released any specs, because they like giving a straight truthful answer. I can assure you that the other companies are exaggerating again this time! (Microsoft is a little better with that, but they still bend the numbers a bit) And besides, it's gone beyond mere power. Now it's about how much more fun the best system is. And that's what Nintendo's good at! Sega was great at that too, and I think we'll be seeing quite a few new games from them for Revolution. And please don't start about Nintendo being too "kiddie." The majority of people I know that play GTA and FPS's are under 12. Besides, I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping some morals-based fun as opposed to immature violence. You know what I'm talking about... "Oh geez, you just shot all that guy's limbs off, HAHAHA!" Seriously people. You should give ACTUAL fun a try some time. I suggest Pikmin, lol! Ok, that was a fairly calm rant... Consider yourselves lucky!
see thats what i was sayin before. ps is the new "kiddie" company. all the people i know that still play on ps2 are 12 or 13. most people that grew up with the systems want more substance to their games. i watch my cousins play gta:sa and they go on and on about how many stars they got or how many times they shot everyone in sight.

Ps2 r awsome to melt in a micro wave (my frend actualy did it and it sent sparks it was kool. broke the good old microwave), and you can even use it as a cricket bat and also commonly used as a portable shitting/pissing device where i live (Go Tassie!) Alright, I admit sometimes I bullshited a little. Remember when I said I own a GC but don't really play with it? To tell you the truth, I've never played that. I bet its for kids because the games have funny colors, so they must not be fun, and since i'm too insecure, I think it would be worse for my already shitty reputation with women, being as unpopular as I am.
But yeah, I still think that anyone that spends a huge amount of money on consoles like PS3 must be a loser just because I say so, or a loser too if they buy Revolution because it won't have games (again, because I said so), or it will be for kids or all of the above.
You have to buy the 360 because I swear to you, it's american so it MUST be better than any japanese console, and because I didn't like the other consoles, it will be cheap because its made by microsoft, and it's the most cutting edge system ever (JUST LOOK AT IT! And oh the games, it only has FPShooters, but come on, give it a shot, it's the cool thing to do). Perhaps that way I'll have jocks appreciate me and maybe they will allow me to get closer to chicks! I admit I was blown away with some of the games wading its way to the X360 and I did node my head up and down, my hand resting comfortably on my chin and said 'hmmm, not bad'. The new machine has ALOT of attracting features and no doubt will truly ultrilize the machine to the max, ( and all fair play to it ...

... what EXACTLY different are we ( or am I ) expected to see and feel when playing MS new console? you said it your self my friend ' ...it only has FPShooters, ' yeah I know, it obivousily won't be the only genre on the 360 but if ' boasting graphics ' is the only way appeal, as well as its multipurpose extras then there really is nothing AT ALL that reaches out to me and make me blow all my hard earned change on it, MS would have to do O-N-E H - E - L - L of a job to stir up any interest, the name its self can't buy me.

Nintendo itself isn't really there, but Iwata will do his key speach, which hopefully is about the Revolution. Everybody's hoping that he will reveal everything, finally!
We'll just wait and see, I guess...

nintendo's games are great, but i thought the n64 versions of mario, zelda, and star fox more entertaining than the gamecube. i'm glad they are finally taking the games online. they are still the best game developers.
based on the popular rumour of the tilt function wouldnt it be cool in super smash bros an item to pick up and turn the platform to its side and tip people off just the little things make up the big hot hard...
yeah, that would not be bad. we'll call those kind of games "tilt em' ups" or something like that. but i feel that if that gyroscopic function actually makes it out of rumor world out into reality, it would be awesome in flight games. think of the possibilities on a game like star fox. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

This will be my first attempt at jumping on board this experience. Imagine what we could be seeing on the revolution :
1. A Starfox game ( four players playing simutaeousily ) AND an death match, dog fight challenge where as much as 30 - 40 players duking it out, o yes,.
2. A Zelda game that could bring together a type of Lord of the Rings senario ( one persons Link, another person could be a Goron, another person could be one of the aqua spieces people and so on) appling coperation when needed, THIS WOULD BE EPIC ON SO MANY A LEVEL!!!
3. F-ZERO ( Nuff said)

Hello all fanboys and non-fanboys... I am young moses and I am here to let you all know that the Revolution WILL be televised come this month. I spend endless hours online looking for any news, pics, blogs etc. on the Rev. I am pretty sure that Nintendo execs have found their way into our community and thus realizing that Rev 411 is imperative to us. I constantly write e-mails to Nintendo bugging them and advising them to relieve us of all this confusion and pain. Furthermore putting us in a state of euphoric gaming nothingness. Wow, finally finished reading that whole thing...took me a while (more than a while actually, lol), but I heard alot of different points and opinions that I had not even thought of. I have to say that I am a Nintendo fan, and have been ever since I played my first video games on the NES. I've grown up with Nintendo and have never been dissapointed by their games or their consoles. But for a few years now I have had to listen to a lot of people put-down the gamecube, and it was starting to make me feel like I was one of the few people who still believed in Nintendo. I would hear person after person say that the GC is weak, and it's games are for little kids. In a way we all have a little kid inside of us when we play games; a true gamer will get excited when they play a fun game, and are truly passionate about having a fun gaming experience. At least this is how I feel, but don't get me wrong I'm not implying that the games themselves are "kiddie", but are able to bring that 'fun-loving kid' out of any gamer - be it an 'E','T', or 'M' rated game. After reading the 800+ comments above I know that I have no reason to feel that way. I'm overjoyed to finally find people who support Nintendo and feel the way I do when it comes to the games. Graphics are good, but it doesn't mean a whole lot if the gameplay can't match it. Playing a game with the most astounding graphics and no real gameplay is going to leave me with a 'that looked sweet! But I'm totally dissapointed that it was only fun for the first ten minutes' type of feeling. I'd be happy to play SNES graphic type games these days because the games left me with some of the best gaming experiences of my life. Kirby Superstar, Super Mario RPG, Mariokart, Super Mario, and Donkey Kong were some of the best games I have ever played! One crazy hope I have (I can always dream!) is that the backward compatibility to the other systems might rekindle the console side-scrolling games. I just think they could make some seriously kick-butt side-scroller game in this day and age, and it could even be 2D but this doesn't matter to me as long as it leaves me with an awesome and fun gaming experience. Anyway, I think I've talked enough for now. Can't wait to see what the Revolution holds for us.
O ya, and RevPatentLeaker... Your one crazy guy/girl! Like the mysteriousness though, and the way you write; just makes me want to know.

I think the reason why games these days are mostly crap are because back in the day games didnt have great graphics they just had story and gameplay to immerse yourself that is why we say that games were the best back then i mean most other companies just churn out games with a good graphics engine but not nintendo they put in the hard yards and strive to be perfect. True the others do, but there just shit nintendo do everything for the developer (these days. Did you know that the N64 didnt have a sound chip, thats why Square left them) but they just shit in their face.

ah yes..revpatentleaker. I too have been watching this guy's posts! I think i know what he is talking about. And it is a HE! im pretty sure...hahah but then thats a mystery to me just like the other things he says. He has samus Aran on his webpage so it might be a she but Im confident REVPATENTLEAKER is a he.
Here's the break down of all his mysterious ways and concepts and why i think this "deadly japanese wraith" is in fact the REAL DEAL.

Reading almost every post from this Seriousgamer007 gives me doubts about him. You know...that guy made me realize something. Its about games. The very fact that he's writting his messages in an innovative and exciting way is the VERY essence of nintendo. In the ON video they showed two consoles..one looked like the REVO box and the other was the immersive gaming unit. This is interesting...I dont know. Maybe the controller is its own console in a way..but we will see. I do not think there are 2 consoles..unless rev meant the MICRO but he said it was the REAL predecessor to the GC. Maybe...its a portable form of the GC?? or the REV with a combined unit?? i have no idea. He never mentioned anything about 2 consoles again though. hmmm..

The thing where RevPatentLeaker were talking about NANO technology, before the Gameboy Micro, I've heard somewhere that Nintendo is working a lot these days with NANO technology. I believe that's why the revolution will be so small. Face it, the gamecube itself was very small for its capacity, right? (Even though it wasn't NANO) For you who doesn't know NANO technology, it's a technology for making REALLY REALLY small chips and components for things.
I believe the Gameboy Micro is a way of showing us how good Nintendo are at these things. If you can make a Gameboy Advance smaller than my cellphone, then you could make a powerful home console much smaller than, well, let's say the XBOX 360...

I know what the Nano is (basically a mini in a new shape and a bit thinner, with more capacity) - but.. did they completely erase the mini information from their site? Because if I ever had a problem with my mini (which I still own and love), I would just go straight to the site and it was VERY helpful. I went their the other day and.. even when using the search bar.. the word mini doesn't come up anywhere!

alright, im not sure if any one has posted this site yet because if skimmed through the end of this blog lately, but this site is telling us something big...really big...i mean like the patent for the new controller. And better yet, it even vaugely describes it and a couple names and features to go with. I think nintendo already denounced anything about touch screens and visors. RevPatentLeaker also doesn't mention anything about those..he only asteriked the word VISION once and also said something (way back when he was friggin normal!) about SORTA Like LCD screens, except they are buldges with LCD windows and they can change their display. This makes WAY more sense than a full LCD panel. You can feel the buldges under your finger tips which reduces gamer's fears of having to get used to looking at the control (esp. at night) to figure out what button you're touching. Plus it makes PERFECT sense with what RevPatentLeaker said, that they can change the display of those buldges, so in effect it can map any type of game controller button set up!! Whats wierder is RevPatentLeaker said what he says could have half truths and those messages of way before seem to be more his SPECULATION than him telling us "Hey this is what I know.." or "This is what the REV Controller" will look like. This guy is the shit because Im not even sure nintendo was finished with the controller yet. He seems to be on the same pace as them, very very interesting.
Now if i remember,in his last post he said something about the wolf howling east when the moon is Crescent and at 0.25. I've tried to decipher this but i am getting stuck on the Crescent part. "Nanotechnology" is technology that is small, by definition. Modern computers use "nanotechnology" because the components of the chips are so small.
Some things that have been created with "nanotechnology" are still experimental, like extremely small mechanical parts. Anything created with this technology would be amazing. The Nintendo Revolution will not use this "nanotechnology" because it is not fully developed to a useful point yet.
The Nintendo Revolution will use the nanotechnology of microchip fabrication, as all the consoles will, and your computer does, by definition, because the components are so small.
NANO is "Nearly Approximating Nano Optimization", meaning that it will be small, like modern microchips are.
I think there are 3 basic reasons that the NR will be very small:
1: It will not contain a hard drive. Why would you need one when a square inch flash chip can hold 16 GB?

2: The processors will be efficient. The PS3 and X360 reportedly have extremely inefficient processors(like little branch prediction-the PS3 almost lacking it entirely, and such), and will probably have equally inefficient and extremely powerful graphics chips. This will generate a lot of heat, and the system would overheat if it did not have good airflow. Nobody has any idea what kind of processor or graphics the NR will have, but because Nintendo isn't competing the way Sony and Microsoft are(blindly), and because they need their system to fit into such a small space, I expect it to be very efficient; use little power, and generate little heat, but be about as powerful as the other systems.
3: The conversion from AC to DC will be done externally. All computers need direct current electicity, but the electricity from the wall comes as alternating current. The conversion from AC to DC is inefficent, and produces a lot of heat. Unless Nintendo has found a way to put the equivilent of a computer power supply into the size of a pack of gum, they will use an external converter to make the main console smaller(like a laptop does).
Don't get excited about NANO technology that the Revolution will be using. As "hi" said, any microprocessor developed under 100 nm is considered nanotechnology. That would be all 3 consoles which are built on a 90 nm process. If RevPatentLeaker is right:

it sounds like Nintendo/IBM have bumped up the power of Broadway (CPU) which means they probably increased the speed to around 3.2 ghz to match the Cell and Xenon. RevPatentLeaker also says the Hollywood (GPU) has been completed, so it sounds like the Revolution is nearing beta mode. Hopefully, only 3 days until we learn some real information about these consoles.

This is misleading. Usually 16GB means 16 Gigabytes, that's what most people understand anyway. And it's not 16GB, it's 16Gbits, which means it is 2GB, or two Gigabytes. Which is not that impressive. Of course, you can put several together, but imagine the cost. And you don't need much anyway. The revolution will use one that has 4-Gbits, or 512 Mbytes.

You Know what people, I think, ONLY THINK that we shouldn't expect anything TOO lavish. Nintendo have said many a occasion regarding the Rev controller on keeping it simple ( or words to those effect) . I've been racking my brain, like yourselves thinking of how this things going to look.

Revolution's flash memory is not intended to be used as a "hard drive". If it works for something, perhaps it's for downloadable games, and that thing fits 8 of the biggest nintendo 64 games, like DK64, RE2, and Perfect Dark. Besides, the slowest internet would take about 20 minutes to download these, the average user could take 10 minutes or less by that time. Much less for the average nintendo 64 game, the SNES games (a minute or so mostly), and NES games will be downloadable almost instantly. Unless they are made to have better graphics, but that wouldn't make games a lot bigger anyway. That said, you may want to leave the biggest games on the flash memory and download the smallest ones every time you play. And perhaps it's expandable too.
cheers b, that cleared a few things up. but here's a thought; mabye you could, eventually purchase flash "memory cards" that are large enough so that you could transfere the games (once they are downloaded) from the Revolution to the memory cards and mabye have some kind of "library" of memory cards which contain retro games. and then you could then use these cards to take round to your mates house and play them on his Revolution - much in the same way as the xbox360 is promoting the same use with its hard drive?

2 gigabytes of 'memory' is the key word. For storing saved games, only.
What's the real reason people complain about XBox's HD being too small? They can't copy as many DVDs onto the HD, or music, or other files. I don't see Nintendo ever allowing users to manipulate their systems anywhere near that.
Looking through my saved games folder on my computer, The Sims 2, the first neighborhood, which is filled with familes to the brim, is about 72 megabytes large. --But, I certainly never play all that. Most people only play 1 main family, and a few others just for a change of pace.. my folder I play with, is only 20 megabytes large. That means, on this 2 gigabyte flash memory, I could save 100 of those games onto it. AND, The Sims 2 is a VERY large save-game-size hog. I believe most of the SNES games that save data only use 8 kb of space to store data on their cartridges. That means, a quarter of a million saved SNES game slots.
But, if you store these older games on memory sticks, the issue of enough space is irrelevent. If you burn them to a CD/DVD, it's irrelevent. If you buy them at the store and 'unlock' them online, it's irrelevent.
Infact, this is all irrelevent. 2 gigs of flash memory is for saved game files, not the games themselves.
I used to have a device (from nintendo, bwahaha) that copied cartridge data onto a floppy. We used to fit up to a dozen games on the floppy. That's pretty small! 1/4" -Floppy-
So, while people are complaining about a statistic, comparing it to an XBox or a computer.. ask yourself, 'What am I buying this console for? To replace my computer I'm typing on? To copy games ILLEGALLY!!!? Or to play -games-, and not make excuse?'

Let me set this rookie straight, who obviously knows nothing about what he's talking about, or, ahem, not thinking outside the box.
The term 'Gaming Engine', in the programming world, refers to a set of code that interprets a file and formats it into, in gaming terms, a playable environment. Bioware's Infinity Engine, for example. Once produced, it was never changed all that much, but released over half a dozen games to run on the Engine. No serious coding was needed... The same goes for, say, the Unreal Engine, which has multiple games that run off of it.
So, what 'leaker' was -trying- to make you all think about, was running a mario 'engine', that connects online, or gets queues from online, for new gameplay 'episodes'. When you connect online, several new 'eipsodes' get added to your console, or loaded somehow, so that your gameplay changes.
Now, considering, coding a small level for this, with a few new enemies, and copied/pasted common objects (including enemies and graphics), this is very easily done, on a corporate level.
A HUGE amount of profit is made on expansion packs anyway.. the bulk of the work is already done.
So, no, thinking 'inside the box' means you can't grasp anything other than -hard-coded-, olny-done-before concepts.
While thinking 'outside the box' means you can imagine what games could be like, if only developers did it themselves.
Infact, Engines don't even need to restart, recompile, or stop for any amount of time to 'add-on' a file to use. You could pull ALL your area/level data from online sources.
Keep thinking inside the box, it gets you nowhere with your imagination.

cheers b, that cleared a few things up. but here's a thought; mabye you could, eventually purchase flash "memory cards" that are large enough so that you could transfere the games (once they are downloaded) from the Revolution to the memory cards and mabye have some kind of "library" of memory cards which contain retro games. and then you could then use these cards to take round to your mates house and play them on his Revolution - much in the same way as the xbox360 is promoting the same use with its hard drive?

Thanks for the comments, and you have good ideas, although I think it would be even more practical for the "flash memory" to be used as a Revolution memory card, that way you don't have to buy memory cards, and you can disconnect it and connect it on other revolutions, and you have the posibility of increased storage in future memories, a la memory sticks.

It has heat things so the controller will heat up if you are touching fire and cool down if you are swimming in the artic. That's really cool. But, we'll have to see it it's REALLY true on Friday (Pacific Time} (You know why Friday!)
To tell you the truth, even if the Nintendo Controller wasn't revolutionary, I'd still buy it. Nintendo is the best and I thought the GameCube was the best of all the Consles ever made.

839: Nintendo's online service will be online. Whatever way you use to get online is what Nintendo will use. Nintendo did not have online gaming for the gamecube like the ps2 and xbox had for just the reason you were describing: most people still had dialup when it came out, not very useful for online gaming. Now that DSL has dropped in price and become avalible in a lot more areas, Nintendo will have an online service.
If you use dialup, the downloading of games will be slower, and require that you close your phone connection while you download. Once you have whatever game you want downloaded, you will be able to close the internet connection to play the game. You will probably not be able to play large bandwidth online games, like multiplayer FPS games, unless you have a broadband connection.
841: That is either a REALLY nice photoshop job(I don't see how you could duplicate the slight ghosting of a downward moving digital camera in low light), something that has been well staged, or a spy cam picture of a secret presentation about the NR. I see some light switches and a wire box on the left, and a standard celling on the top right that look real. The date on the screen is Friday, 8/19/2005, 2:24PM. I see a graphic of a NR controler that looks surprisingly similar to one that I saw that was black and had blue customizable LED buttons.

841: where in the BLUE HELL did that picture come from! - it looks so authentic and all signs show that it is real ; lighting, in respect to perspective, the merger of the outline for the person walking across the presentation, the presentation itself looks as though it is authentic, just due to the fact of lighting and focus. this has got me believing - and i dont usually have faith in "leaks" such as these.....
the whole picture is oviously real - i dont think that any part of it has been doctored or sampled from another source. so that leaves one possibility left... that either someone with REALLY good skills has created this presentation (which is projected in the picture) and has created a convincing masquirade of someone "unexpectedly" walking in front of the camera (as in pirate copies of cinema films), or that this is REAL and this person has only revealed the picture with no comments for the reason to simply let the picture do the talking.

Holy shit, I don't know who "Redvelvet" could be but... It looks like this is not just "a game". GumShu IS a revolution game. But this is NOT just a game. See down there in "software"? Behind that is the controller. It looks cool and similar to what has been some time "leaked". But that's not the most intriguing thing. You know why is the controller behind the "software" thingy? You know WHY it says revolution and LAST MONTHS date? You know why does it say "offline" below the revolution logo, "options" below the nintendo logo, and "play"/"review"/"discuss"/"high score"??? BECAUSE THIS IS THE FUCKING NINTENDO REVOLUTION INTERFACE!!!
Next to the "software" option, it says "wi fi" connection. You probably just need to move the analog stick, or the controller, or whatever you need to do to order the console to see the menu "rotate" from software to "Wi-fi connection". And this game "GumShu: Bloody Afternoon" looks like it's gonna be Rated "M for Mature", as it obviously features "blood", action, guns, and it's about a (probably angry) Young detective "Nick Stevenson" that is not having a good week. I can also see the words "violent", "and save", and "...too late?" (possibly says: Will it be too late?" we all know that the answer to that question in every videogame is "No, it's never too late").
Maybe its not to play a game. Maybe this is just a demo of the interface, and on what it shows, you could get to playing a demo of the GumShu game (look below: it says learn more, so it could be just to know more about the storyline before playing a demo, or the actual game, it could be either of the two). Holy shit, and this was just two or three days before the supposed revelation of the controller. I bet there is a lot more though. And I dont think its much coincidence that this was revealed a little before the TGS. And perhaps Redvelvet is Revpatentleaker.
