Multicolor Game Boy Micro
Remember that bit about the Game Boy Micro rolling out
in a bunch of funky colors? Blue and red — not all that funky. Lime green? Slightly higher funk factor. Peep after the
jump for some seemingly Hanafuda-themed models that start to get a bit more craaaaazy whilst at the same time evoking
that old skool retro feel. Funky!

TheZodiac @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
I think ti would be great if they made one patterned from swiss cheese! Everyone loves cheese!
AMD ZEN @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Needless to say, this little package is kinda cool. But really... if you already have the GameBoy AdvanceSP, there is really NO need for this other then the look and feel of something smaller. Now, I haven't held one yet, but that screen is just getting smaller, you would think that Nintendo would have learned fromt he PSP's HUGE BEAUTIFUL SCREEN and made it a widescreen model ultra thin (like 1/4 inch or so) and buttons close to the screen (like the PSP but smaller thickness wise) However, this is neat, and I like all the color choices.
dreampc @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Wouldn't it be interesting if this thing did mp3's...
TheZodiac @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
OK fine.... I did it myself :)

ipod mini + zen micro + original NES controller = Gameboy micro
When are they going to change this dpad and button scheme?
mike @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
they should do it like Nike. Have a website where you can design your own faceplates (Nike lets you customize colours.. very very cool).. and then pay a premium for customization. The in-store faceplates would be dirt cheap.. cool idea..huh?
seaotter @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
holy shit that is sexy! i want the black one!
neil @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
C'mon, go with the obvious. Make it look like an old school NES controller.
YourTechSupport @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
What, no 'Classic NES' controller look? Why the hell not? I might actually care then.
ZSX @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Now this is a game console I actually want. Reminds me of my original Nintendo Game & Watch Widescreen. I had Snoopy tennis and Donkey Kong Jr. Oh the days!

Mark @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Since its a removable faceplate they should make a clear one. Then you can print out whatever you want, trim to size, and put under the faceplate.
Sasquatch @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Speaking of color, I am still not clear on the specs of the screen. Nintendo said it would have the brightest and best screen ever (or something like that...)
Is it comparable to the screen on the PSP in any way or is it more of the same backlit junk we have seen our whole lives?...
Peter @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
#2 I like the swiss chees idea look, and i have added some of my own variations of what i think a nice scheme would be for the new GameBoy Mini

J-Rad @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Nintendo rules! Not only does the GBMicro look cool, now we can make it looks cooler by customizing it to fit our personality. And I agree with post #2, everybody loves cheese!!!
strider_mt2k @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
An NES Edition would look killer!
I want one, but only for around 100 dollars.
John P. @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
This sort of reminds me of a "Design a Gameboy" competition in Nintendo Power. I couldn't find it online, but the contest asked people to send in their own designs, and 3 would be chosen and made. Anyone know which issue that was? I seem to recall the followup issue as well.
Bruce @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
#11 those are AWESOME!
Gordy @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Talk about your cash cows...
Ean Frick @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Oh crap, they have a camo version. Now I'll never be able to find my gameboy!
knot_u @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
ummmm...nintendo,this looks almost exacly like the xbox 360. i mean it even has the same kind of removable face plate :(
SuperDOS @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
Since it's a shame there's no NES-skin i made one.

I am a little surprised they didn't think to include the ability to play mp3s.

Zodiac send in your swiss cheese one. That's the only way i'd buy it. Hilarious. Good job Peter too.

i wouldn't buy it,
what the hey! it's awesome :0
though i could just buy skins for my DS, and it'd do the same thing.
knot_u @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
my bad posted the same thing twice. :)
wroot bere @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
i might buy it but then, it's just another game boy.
Brad @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
How much does it cost? It would be great if it had SD card compatibility and MP3 and movie playback.
Sam McConnell @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
They say it's about the size of an iPod Mini, but that's huge now! I want a Game Boy the size of an iPod Shuffle! But wait, then it wouldn't have a screen...
The Jeremy @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
"Efff" this. Gimme a new Atari Lynx with those dimensions... :)
furtim @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
This reminds me of the themed controller decals I used to get in issues of Nintendo Power. Damn, Nintendo, way to bring back my childhood!
ketch @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
I think it would defenitly be a hot seller but only if it plays GBA games (which I think it's all it plays as is) and if it's price is 45-50 dollars, killing the original gba for good. And if you want the bigger screen, backwards compatibility you buy an SP for 70 or DS for 150.
But this is such a sleek product it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo decided to make it play mp3 also, and full backwards compatible and in doing so be able to charge 90 dollars for it.
The first scenario is more likely since the gba is already an old hardware and charging more than 70 dollars for it, would be a very bad move no matter how cute it is.
I'll be sure to get one when it comes out, my girlfriend saw the above pic and already said she wanted one...and she's not a gammer, so I can plainly see the market for the Micro...
numps @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
i'm pretty sure it'll play mp3s. given the clues, it's got a headphone jack on the side, they compare this to the size of an ipod, i mean u could compare it to the size of a burito, but when u compare it and say it's smaller than an ipod, then ur probably going to compete with it. and they just released that play yan thing, showing that they want to break into the mp3 business, and if it does all that, i just want to go beat up some little kid and take it from him/her...YEAH!!
John Doe @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
I've seen it and it was good. It wont play video or music as is. What they are talking about is the Play-Yan thing. At e3 they had 4 of the micros with the playyan in them and had a small caption saying that it was playing a zelda trailer using a media device that takes SD cards = Play-Yan. the thing is tiny and has a backlite screen(like the PSP) very bright and colorfull. From what i gather it only plays GBA games not GBC or GB. Would definately buy one if they're ~$60. BTY i liked how they had the demo units tetherd to litte cute blonde girls.
papa @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
#16, dude, your designs were awesome. I really like the first one the most though. I hope they make that one. Or have they already? Well, hope they make it!
Edgar Salgado @ Dec 19th 2005 1:21AM
I got a Gameboy micro and i liked the sturdy feel of it after all it has a metal casing. i got the black and everybody liked it specially when playing Mario Kart on it. I bought it hoping i would play Mp3s or have cartriges with SD slots or something but no luck even though i found a website with a 1Gb and 512Mb GBA flash cartridge but it costs more than the Gameboy micro. Even though it has one of the best bright color screens out there for thirty bucks more i returned it and got a DS instead....I'll get the micro again as soon as i hear it play Mp3s
