Smart shoe rewards activity with TV time
It may not solve the childhood obesity crisis, but Square Eyes, a smart shoe for kids developed by a student at London's Brunel University, may be a start. The shoe's insole includes a pressure sensor that records how many steps the wearer takes over the course of a day, and transmits the data to a box connected to the home TV. More walking leads to more TV time; the box automatically shuts off the set once the day's limit has been reached. Could be useful, though we envision legions of kids banding together to hack this thing in no time — or bailing on the TV and catching their shows via Bit Torrent instead.

wow, they thought of everything, the sensor being in the heel prevents kids from cheating and running in place on their toes in front of the tv.
Kids will start saving up to buy treadmills. lol
This is great. If technology like this progresses by the time I decide to have kids, then all of my parental responsibilities will be handled for me.
Fishes,
narco.
can anyone say dog? plus i don't about u guys but i watch TV barefoot does it use bluetooth or something with a little more juice
Some Dance Dance Revolution in those and the TV will never switch off. :)
Horrible idea. Any kid knows that if it won't let him watch TV he'd just go play the computer.
Seriously, how hard is this thing going to be to hack? At any rate, it wouldn't be too difficult to rig up some sort of system to step on the shoe with a piston or something. A modded impact wrench might do the job.
