The SGH-D307, Samsung's messaging phone
If you're still peeved that Motorola killed off the MPx before it had a chance to land Stateside, you might be in luck. Nah, Moto's not reviving the ill-fated Pocket PC Phone, but apparently Samsung is stepping up to the plate with a new messaging phone called the SGH-D307 that sports both a QWERTY mini-keyboard and a dual-flip hinge that'll have anyone who was lusting after the MPx nodding their heads knowingly (we can only assume). Not sure when the D307 due out or whether or not it'll run on Windows Mobile, but we do know that it'll have quad-band GSM, EDGE, and Bluetooth.

What a total load of crap! There's no way in hell this thing could be built as solidly as the MPx. That phone was all about innovation in desing and usability. Too bad about the specs and other problems though :(
In any case, Samsung needs to stop ripping off everything Moto. Didn't they also rip off the RAZR (which i'm NOT a fan of btw)?

Hey, if they give it a touch screen and the PocketPC version of Windows Mobile 5, I'll buy it in a heartbeat, whatever the cost. I think more companies need to make clamshell form-factor PocketPC phones.

The feature I was most looking forward to in the MPX was 802.11. I can't see the SGH-D307 being much of a replacement for the MPX without that.

But remember, Samsung delivers, Motorola only brags and fails to put their devices on the market.

Moto bragged about the MPx and didn't deliver, they bragged about the MPx220 and they delivered a device that has been recalled twice since it's release (Bestbuy and Cingular here recently). i'll give Samsung a chance with their new device before i consider Motorola's products again....

I can say that the Samung I have owned for 5 years has been extremely well built. I just moved to an Audiovox SMT 5600 on Cingular.
If this new Samsung runs the new MS mobile platform, has Bluetooth, and the ability to drop in a 1GB memory chip, receive e-mails pushed to the phone and play music like the AudioVox, the Samsung's fuller keyboard would be a good reason for me to switch to it.

Why doesn't market with 1 phone i desperately need which is GSM all bands + CDMA 2000 + WCDMA together.
Please suggest.

Another useless keyboard! What a waste, you can only use the keyboard when you are in Cingular's proprietary email/messaging mode. You can't type in web URL, you can't use it in J2ME MIDlets, you can't type in someone's name for your phone address book. Just like the LG F9100: "Keyboard not supported" in every screen where it might actually be useful.
Mark Russell @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Ummm, why would tey pt a keyboard on it that cannot be used? Can you actuall prove the keyboard not supported claims? I was just starting to get excited as I bsted the screen on my SMT 5600 (which I throughly enjoyed) except I longed for a keyboard. If this one isn't going to work how about the Nokia 9300?

Looks great, no camera and of course thats a little down side because i am a teenager, but my last phone was a Motorola V551 and i hardly ever use the camera. I find my self being attracted to more "Business-man" aimed phones rather than the cheap nokias with little cameras most teenagers have. I will be getting this phone soon (if everything goes to plan) but i want to know if it has an HTML browser, much like the sidekick or the new nokia being released. thats the only feature i need along with the keyboard and speakerphone.
enoch @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
where can i get this phone?
Craig @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
I had this phone for 1 day, and canceled it and returned it.
Useless keyboard is right. To type in a URL you have to use the digit keypad, duh!!! instead of using the great keyboard it has to type www.google.com you have to type '9, pause, 9, pause, 9, symbol, symbol, 1(for .), ok, T9off, 4, 666, pause, 666, 4, 555, 33, symbol, symbol, 1(for .), ok, T9off, 222, 666, pause, 6'. Whoever engineered this thing is an idiot.
Downloading a ringtone? make sure you like it, because you cannot delete it, unless you restore to factory settings.
Need to add someone to your address book? oh yeah, once again, you cant use the great keyboard it has.
Need a standard ring? Oops, sorry, no basic ring ring, just annoying elevator music you never heard of.
Need to download a standard ring ring from cingular? Sorry, none available.
Need help with the phone? Call cingular and you will be on there for hours.

Craig, this is the very reason I've reverted to a "plain jane" device. I was so tired of mid to high end devices that didn't live up to my expectations and/or their high price tags. This device could have potentially been a SideKick killer, but again, they royally missed it.
Lamont @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
You can use the KB to input SMS, ToDo, Address Book and calendar. For some stupid reason it's under the SMS menu.
