How to Crack WEP, Episode II
For those of you who have been eagerly
awaiting it, Tom's Networking has posted Part 2 of their WEP cracking guide. So, if you've set up your test system as
described in Part 1, here's your chance to give it a go.
Oh, one quick reminder from Tom's, just in case you forgot: "Accessing anyone else's network other than your own
without the network owner's consent is illegal. TomsNetworking, Tom's Guides Publishing and the author do not condone
or approve of illegal use of this tutorial in any way." Part 3, coming soon, will show you how to protect your network
— something we're sure you'll want to see, now that everyone has read the first two parts and ignored that
disclaimer.
[Thanks everyone who sent this one in.]

That was a really interesting article. I like Tom's site.
I think this is outrageous! Why not just publish how to build a bomb too? Stupid and NOT required. Where's the law when you need it?
#2 - There's actually nothing illegal about publishing information on how to build a bomb. As I understand it, this is still a free counrty.
this isn't news
4. Fuck you man, it is news
I devinatley found this article interesting. Thx tom ^^. Btw, bombs are fairly interesting also, You can make thermite with rust and one other ingrediant (forget which, perhaps magnesium?), but i dont wanna say for sure.
Story>>>
I remember reading a story about some guy that put a 1 inch block of this stuff on a guys car (i presume his had a grudge of some sort).. at any rate, the cube once lit, ate through the hood, the entire engine block and i belive made a hole into the ground (tho i cannot say to what depth).
Aparently, you could feel the heat from 15 feet and took a quite a bit of water to put it out, most of the water was instantly evaporated.
Calm down folks.
Just as I pointed out in my previous post regarding part 1:

...cracking WEP is so damn easy its silly.
Stellar Developer, thermite is actually a combination of iron oxide (rust) and aluminum. It can be a real pain to light it though. Some claim to have lighted thermite with a match, but I seriously doubt it. The normal method used to light homemade thrermite is with a flare (the pull-string kind).
Standard thermite production involves using a nail (big iron one) and electrolysis (DC current running through the nail under some water). This will essentially turn a big nail into a giant pile of rust overnight. Bake it in the oven for a while to dry it out and you have a really big pile of very-bad-smelling iron oxide. Then use a slow-speed grinder on some soda cans with some creative dust collection and you have your aluminum powder =). Use eye protection and wear a particle breathing mask (aluminum in the brain/lungs has been linked with alzheimers disease).
Combine the two at a 50/50 ratio and you've got yourself some thermite. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME (hell, don't try it at all. Just be happy knowing how). Especially don't light it with your hands (it will burn your arm/face off). Use a wick or a really, really long metal device (or a robot!) to light it.
Homemade thermite burns at about 6,000 degrees (F). Hotter than the sun!
What if the network is unsecure? Is it still illegal?
lol, thx risk. Perhaps the story i heard was to some exaggeration? Aparently it was either larger than 1 cubic inch or it did not burn though the ground. unless he mean it melted through the road to which the car was parked (that would make more sense). at any rate, you can see a demo of some being ignited and some of the chemical properites of the reaction.
#9 -> usually yes. It would be like you paying for a service and someone else would be stealing from you. Of course, if ppl cant put forth the effort to secure their own networks, then have at it, i say. If that were the case, i seriouly doubt theyld know they had a parasite on their network.
On the other hand, i thought i heard somewhere that some cities were in support of public free wifi.
Also, its not hard to drive around just about any community with a wifi laptop and find some unsecured connections. It'll stay that way until wep is installed automatically during the router setup.
it's actually with alluminium and you light it with magnesium ribbon
Thermite must be ignited with magnesium...you can light magnesium with a match/lighter though if they burn hot enough.
HOW TO CRACK SOMTHING? MEANS HOW TO PROTCET YOURSELF FROM THIS THING....
thermite is an oxidation reduction reaction and one of the best ways to light it is through a high intensity heat like magnesium previously stated. it shoud burn through just about anything up to carbon steel and was commonly used in underwater welding jobs. it will keep burning until the reaction completely runs out. as for the 50/50 ratio, do the stoichiometry to determine the limiting reactant. base your weight ratios off of that, not 50/50 you'll be leftover with excess material and that would just be wasteful and impractical.
