Sending out an SMS at your next concert

Most big shows have those large screens up so the folks in the nosebleed section can still watch the concert on the teevee whilst still pretending they've gotten their $80 worth. Now you'll be able to send SMS to that teevee and really get your money's worth by communicating your deepest inner longings to the rest of the crowd, and bond over your communally shared experience ("lIk brittney iz lIk so totally hot, dudz") thanks to Boomerang Mobile Media's partnership with Strategic Artists Management. About to get its first launch in the U.S. on Clay Aiken's summer tour, the concept was tested out on a promotional tour for Anastacia in Europe, where ten percent of the attendees forked over 1 euro each for the privilege of seeing their own names up in lights and sending marriage proposals to the pop star. The other half of the equation in this partnership is making concert merchandise available for one-click purchase via cellphone. And the net result, as you might have guessed, is quite a bit of bling for Boomerang.

Maybe this kind of thing will fly in Europe, but bring it to the states and it won't last through one concert. You'll have people saying things like "Clay handles giant testicles."

This really is old news. My company does this for tons of acts... we have done it for Jay-Z & R Kelly, Alicia Keyes, Brooks & Dunn to mention a few.
It's a great application and a no brainer. You will see this become a norm rather than the exception at concerts.

U2 has been doing this over the course of their current tour, starting at the end of March. They have people text their names to UNITE and the names show up on the screen moments later.

I assume stuff gets edited/moderated? What they should do is allow you to send in your camera phone pix and have them display on the bigscreens.

I was going to say "Yeah, uh, old news, they were doing this at last year's Projekt Revolution tour", but since MaK10 mentioned that the Tweeter Center is doing it (which is where Projekt Revolution was in the Chicago area) it's more likely done by them, not the tour. Ahh fond memories of spamming their servers with things like "Desco Rules", "SWM 26 AIM:DescoMobile" and "Mike has a small penis"......
