So I see Bill Gates finally decided to put it up for sale...
Technically that's not gold plated - that's "gilded" with gold leaf.
When Gold leaf is made you usually get over 100 square feet from an ounce of gold. It's a few atoms thick and is fun stuff to work with. Since it tears if you look at it funny you pick it up with a wide, thin, flat, natural bristle brush using static. You apply a sticky resin or adhesive to the object and lay the sheets on and then burnish them to get some of the wrinkles and bubbles out. The stuff is also edible and makes for an impressive and expensive topping for chocolate cake.
Seriously, that looks like someone took a can of gold spraypaint to an otherwise good xbox.
But how is the heat conduction?
wow.. what kind of person would gold plate their gaming console.. it looks like it belongs in a museum of things that should never again see the light of day..
I'm sure there's an accompany Ark that this thing gets stored in?

#3, good post. I was going to say the same thing. I've done some work with gold leaf in my art work, and it can be quite frusterating... but its rather cheap. If they made molds of the case and cast it in 24k gold, now THAT would be impressive. Depending on how much this xbox goes for, I might just gold leaf one of my xboxs and throw it up on ebay myself =]
This XBox has not been the prize at a Japanese contest. The wording might be a bit missleading. The German part translates to "Until now there has only been a single golden XBox on earth that was given to the champion of the Xbox-games in Japan. This Xbox (and here he is referring to the one on sale) was plated with 24 carats of gold in many hours of work."
And yes, it is ugly.

It looks even uglier in gold. Oh dear - Microsoft haven't got the hang of designing nice hardware - matches their software though!

I don't think it looks TOO bad... but I'd much rather have a console that's encrusted with diamonds and semi-precious stones. Also, the green "Xbox jewel" at the top shouldn't be covered with gold, it should be replaced with a custom one that's carved out of jade.

#17, the Flakes in Goldschlager are actually real gold, not sugar. Has anyone made a chrome or brushed steel xbox? now that is something i might consider...I hate gold.

its 151.00 Euro, and thats not a whole lot, atleast not as much as the xbox360. Germany along with a few other european nations, like spain, replace the "." in numbers with ",".
Anyway, 151 euro is about $188.70 USD.
so nearly $39 more then an average xbox.
