Samsung 50-inch HDTV with 10000:1 contrast ratio
So no, that 10000:1 contrast ratio wasn't a typo, and Samsung wants you to know that all that contrast now comes in a 50-inch PDP flavor. All this could be yours for that spare $6000+ you've got lying around.

uh, if I buy the TV can I get the girl as well? She's hot. Not hotter than the TV of course.. but a close second.
beautiful sleek, black tv...
GRAY remote control?
For $6k, you would think they could build a sexier remote!
The funny thing is that pic is pretty bad, for a publicity photo of a screen with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. It looks really washed out, which is exactly what a contrast ratio that high is supposed to prevent.
I'm sure the reflections on the screen are the problem, but that's not exactly a selling point for the TV either - these things are supposed to prevent reflections!
Compare this to the pics of the OLED panel that was up here a few days ago, it's like night and day. (I'm sure in person there's little, if any, visible difference in picture quality... but this is just a bad photo.)
Actually, the domestic model should be available within a month with an MSRP of $5K. (Samsung HP-R5052) Of course, if you're really jonesing for that 10,000:1 contrast ratio, the 42" SP-R4232 is available at retail right now for half that. I haven't seen them myself, but word is that samsung might have... exaggerated. Just a bit. (They reportedly have very good blacks and a nice bright image, but not 2x-3x better than everyone else)
#3 - If you're spending $6000 on a TV, you better have a sleek universal remote of your own.
Can Engadget start removing females from any pictures they post. It seems a certain number of people can't cope everytime something is posted which has a woman in the shot. The amount of 'do you get her with it' jokes are getting boring.
Mmmm, indeed. Contrast ratio can be a bit misleading anyway. If you just make your whites eye searingly bright, and leave the 'black' as it is; you can up the contrast ratio. Of course, this doesn't necessarily benefit the overall picture -- you blacks are still a murky dark grey, and the colour balance goes out the window if you turn the brightness all the way up to 11.
I think Tom's Hardware have a good article on the marketing misnomer that is contrast ratio. I can't be bothered to find the URL -- you've got Google haven't you?
Mmmmm... temptation....
#1 - I hope you get banned. We don't need yet another website taken over by "first post" retards like you.
That lady is either really really small, or that tv is bigger than 50". I have both a 50" tv, and a 57" tv, and that tv looks bigger than both of em =0 Or maybe I need more sleep.
So if we don't get her with it, do we get the entourage of whiny geeks talking about it?
This is a super TV I have seen it live. By the way the companion DLP sets are equally as impressive.
By the way Samsung's 1080P on the Plasma models will show a 1080P picture from a 1080P source while the 1080P does the same it also can UPCONVERT a signal source from say 720P/1080i to 1080P
Ooops.
I meant to say that the dlp Samsung 1080P model will automatically upconvert a picture from any source to 1080P, something the new Plasma's do not do (don't ask me why):)
I'd rather (#7) Gommy be removed than the girls...
;)
Adrian, while the SP-R4232 is a nice PDP, it still is an EDTV not an HDTV. I guess if you are a big DVD watcher and not a HDTV watcher the ED panel will do....
SO the 100" and 80" Plasma screens they had at CEBIT wren't HDTV? I don't know why I always though they were.
#2 That Korean girl has a BUTTER FACE. Everything looks good on her BUT HER FACE !
Take a look at my webpage url and see my girlfriend from Shandong, China. She is really hot.
As for the TV. Its whack! My SONY big screen LCD is way nicer,
Isn't anything above a contrast ratio of 400:1 indistinquishable by the naked eye?
I'd like one of each, but I can't afford either.
(just to spite #7)
Samsung's latest models seem impressive, but I'm still not sure about the plasma route. The half lives of plasmas are supposed to be much better, but considering the price of investment (4x the cost of a normal set), it's a little sketchy. I really wish/hope that large screen LCD set prices continue to fall steadily (although it's rumored that they may not). With the Xbox 360 on the way, I think it will be the final push for me to go HD by sometime next year.
i wish they'd get rid of the models, they dont do it for me. anyway the tv would sell on its own

dreampc,
Seems like it comes with a pretty nice remote to me... looks like its got long black hair, white pants, pink top and a nice smile...
This is plasma, right?
Ick, I hate plasma. No way in hell would I spend $6k on a TV to have it fade into ugly crap in a few years.
허허.. ㅡㅡ;; ㅋㅋㅋ
뭐 어쨋든 SAMSUNG은 어디서나 찾아볼수 있구려..
