Home automation system uses SMS to control appliances
Developers at Eneo Labs in Barcelona have put together a
prototype system that uses SMS to let you interact with your home appliances; using the setup, you can send messages to
everything from your lights to your heating system from anywhere you can use a cellphone. Sure, we've seen other
SMS-based home automation systems, but the Eneo system
also reportedly includes intelligent features that can do things like shut off your water if your washing machine is
leaking, and turn on your coffee maker when you enter the kitchen (presumably it uses RFID or some similar system to
identify you as you enter). Of course, we're still not sold on the reliability of SMS for mission-critical messages in
larger markets like the U.S., but we'd certainly be willing to try this out, if only to freak out our roommates by
turning appliances on and off from miles away.

Yeah, and in a few years we will be able to launch nuclear missiles via sms.
Puhlease. I've got my garage door set up so I can open it over the internet via email, phone (via tone recognition) web interface, or timer.
Next is the remote control Force FX lightsaber. It's going to be either remote control activation, or my new doorbell.
