The SmartRider, PDC's in-car computer
It's technically more of a souped up PDA than a proper PC, but a Taiwanese company by the name PDC has been showing off a new in-car computer called the SmartRider that runs on Windows CE.NET 4.2 (which means it should be instant-on, if nothing else), and has a DVD drive, FM and TV tuners, GSM/GPRS for wireless data (yes, it has Intenet Explorer), integrated GPS, a 300MHz AMD Geode GX1 processor, 128MB of RAM, 128MB of ROM, a 7-inch LCD touch screen, and an SD/MMC memory card reader.

sweet been waiting for something like this...wish it had a hard drive to store all your mp3s though.
^^ Not to mention to store a healthy MAME collection! Although I guess that means it would need USB ports, too. Boooo on this thing.
price?
HD capable?
More questions than answers methinks. Is it a rival to Clarion's NICE?
If it runs CE4.2 its capable of mass storage, obviously. IM SURE if has osme sort of USB port - stupid for a CE device not too... I would hope for upgrading roms or something. perhaps it also has GigMP3 type package for storing Mp3s from DVD for playback.
Not bad... but I much prefer this one http://www.digitalww.com/AUTOPC.htm teamed with http://www.digitalww.com/DWW-710L.htm
In-dash full WindowsXP PC with 20gig (upgradeable)
hard drive. Planning one as a birthday present to myself....
Not really the first Car PC..geeks have been doign this for a while but what would be the first that I know if is the system West Coast Customs uses and theirs is a PC and runs Windows XP.

Looks like it has front access USB and a 20GB upgradable Hard Drive. The specs also say that it plays MP3s.

no wifi!?
This is old news...I have a Win Xp PC w/7" touch screen in my car right now and had it for past 1.5 yrs.
These ppl are slow or what. No need to buy this overpriced piece of crap. Just build your own. And add whatever you want on it.
Wish companies would hire more ppl that are ahead of the curve...like me :P
MP3Car.com also carries a nice collection of carputers and various components for building your own systems. I think in all-in-one unit like the SmartRider would be alot easier though.
It runs on windows, no thanks. It will make my car crash O_O
anyone know where you can buy it?
