The Dog-Powered Scooter
Ok, so maybe Mark Schutte's dog-powered scooter doesn't pass the animal cruelty test, but damn, have you seen the
gas prices lately? If you're really in a rush, try the two-dog version. See also:

How is that cruel? it's strength training for doggies!
Besides, dogs have teeth. They know how to show their dislike for something.
dan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Real top-quality engineering there! Hit the brakes hard and watch your beloved dog's head pop RIGHT OFF!
Nathan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
No more cruel than the idiots who run with their dogs. Everyone knows how much dogs love to run without stopping, on pavement, for no reason!
popeye cahn @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Dog is my co-pilot...
odd duck @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
I get that it works for dogs. Anyone know if it will work with a poodle?
jay @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Well come to think of it, huskies are used to pull snow sleds. A scooter on wheels is easier than a wheel-less sled.
LTM @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
When's the pomeranian version coming out?
Craig @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
nathan: last time i checked, they do like that.
Karl @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Nothing wrong with this, except for the "sudden stop" issue. But some breeds of dogs pull sledges, my rotti loves to pull carts around (with or without small children on board) so .
I believe that TOO many people forget that some dogs are WORKING animals - they need to work to be content. Ever seen what a bored rottweiler can do to a leather sofa??

Ooooh finally a good use for dogs other than giving me allergies.
Mush @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
I've got a Samoyed (sled dog/work breed). He'd love to haul that scooter around!

Gadget news is slow lately, eh?
larry @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
dude has got some sweet shorts. and i believe he's sporting a reverse fanny pack.
Barry @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
That wouldn't really be a "reverse" fanny pack, would it? It is, after all, sitting on his fanny.
wes @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
lol you're lamenting about youre gasprices, a litre costs here 1.40$ ;)
Mad Cow @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Looks like fun, but you'd need a well trained dog. If my dog could still...walk (he's 16) he'd be off smelling another dog's butt or chasing ducks in a pond, all with me and the scooter in tow, most likely being dragged in a horizontal position.
Jazzay @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
too bad a litre is like a forth of a gallon (3.79/4) so that would be $5.30 a gallon, which is twice what we pay :)
Mad Cow @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Exactly Jazzay,
The point wes was making is that you shouldn't whine so much about gas prices untill you live in Europe for a little while and have to deal with $6 a gallon! My wife's car get's 40-50mpg, and we still pay more per month for gas here then I did for my 68' Jeep Commando with a 225ci V6 (about 15mpg) back in the States.
fr0g @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
What's wrong with running with your dog? My dog loves to go running. In fact she gets cabin fever on days when I don't go running with her. We run on both pavement (mostly) and grass, and she doesn't seem to have a preference for one surface over the other.
Jeff @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Is the dog included? My dog says she wouldnt like that thing.
Exxonicute. @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Mad Cow, Jazzay can complain all he likes, because really - who cares about other countries when he lives in the USA.
TZK @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Will this fit a hienna?
Nathan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Craig: dogs generally run TOWARD something.
Down, yuppie.
punkigor @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
Nathan, do you even own a dog? When a dog runs, its always running TOWARD something (the next tree, the next fire-hydrant, the dog infront of it, etc)..
there's nothing wrong with running your dog on pavement for exercise. its better than having a fat-ass dog at home who can barely move.
yuppicide @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
If it wasn't $500 I think I'd have a good Christmas gift for someone with a dog who likes to run a lot. He could drive the dog down the street to the beach and go fishing. The only gas required would be dog treats.
The only problem I see is if the dog brakes on his own and stops short.
Cullen @ Dec 19th 2005 12:16AM
what a great way to look like a complete tool.
