Nintendo ON, on again?
Well, Photoshopped or not, the
Nintendo ON rumours have failed to die any sort of
natural death. You all know how these things go — these pics have bubbled up from somewhere, some developer, NDA,
whatevs. You know the drill. Take it or leave it, but it's still out there giving Nintendo fanboys sleepless nights. We
just really want to know if the box of chocolates will be
an add-on or come standard.

Why would the dev kit manual be in japanese while the NDA check in english? Doesn't add up.

it has been proven fake through an old photo that was blured ad reused for this. i hate the world.
hiros @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Four Kanji letters under "Development Kit Manual" mean "fire power generation". And its body (hard to read, so I'm guessing) read like some critics's comment on someones artwork.
Low resolution pictures of developer's manual, subtitled "fire power generation", beginning with "technical writing", is a bit suspectious for me to be true while it looks really artistic. I didn't think that Revolution mockup looks this much cool together with black shiny helmet. I hope it'd be true :D.
yeoz @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
The NDA is fake.
It's cropped and blurred from http://vitanuova.loyalty.org/envelope.jpeg
It's a good bet the whole thing is fake.

#9 - didn't they say the DS was not the true successor to the GameBoy Advance? I don't remeber anything about the Revolution not being the true successor to the GameCube...

Fishie: that means you work for NGC, right? Cool :) Because the pic is from NGC as far as I can remember.
BTW, Im from Moz la Punk, and really, this wasn't confirmed as truth. Just a rumour. Nothing wrong with rumours in my honest opinion.

'didn't they say the DS was not the true successor to the GameBoy Advance?'
The DS is not a gameboy - it is a different line - it works alongside the gameboy advance/sp/micro - this is true, work is being done on the next gameboy
I'm waiting for the next gameboy - the DS looks good but doesn't really appeal to me
'I don't remeber anything about the Revolution not being the true successor to the GameCube...'
It was stated by either Mr Iwata or an official person from Nintendo - not some rumour
Yes it is the next line of Nintendo's console and it that sense it is the successor but not meant to replace the gamecube - this indicates work is also being done on something else -
Please follow the link below - thanks in advance

Exciting times lay ahead of us - I know this will soon turn into a fanboy post, but as a Nintendo fan - I can't wait to see what's around the corner - who knows what the future hold?

I am a freelancer but yeah,Future Publishings NGC bought that interview and had a 6 month exclusive on it.
I had another interview with Miyamoto at E3 last year and combined te two interviews with the roundtable and posted it on the-nextlevel, a site which still exists but has been on indefinite hiatus now.

The person on the photo is called Seth Schoen. He is the EFFs staff technologist. But before you get any funny ideas about him knowing anything about the revolution - or being in on the hoax... I emailed Seth Schoen and got this reply:
I find this very amusing. I have never heard of Nintendo's Revolution before now and have no connection to this hoax. The picture of me that you see documents a letter that I wrote to the editor of Wired News around 2002 to ridicule shrinkwrap licenses. The envelope had seals and text indicating that Wired was promising to publish my letter by the act of opening it.
It's certainly true that video game consoles have been implementing DRM and that I have been critical of them for this. I was involved in advising Andrew "bunnie" Huang prior to the publication of his book _Hacking the Xbox_, and I support the creativity of people who find new ways of using console machines.
That said, I do not own any console machines, nor do I want to buy one, precisely because they have become so encumbered with licensing. I also don't follow the console markets closely except when there's some kind of legal dispute of interest to me. I recently bought a new computer solely in order to play Stepmania because I love DDR but didn't want to buy a game console machine designed to play only software produced under license with Microsoft or Sony. My hope is that "convergence" will mean that the video game console, mobile phone, and set-top box markets will become open-platform general purpose computers, rather than that the PC will become a game console, mobile phone, or set-top box.
Thanks for letting me know about the hoax.
Youre welcome. So please leave it at that and leave Seth alone. Whoevers behind this hoax stole his picture. Lets not steal his time, too.

I so hope that's real, it's wicked looking. It doesn't look fake. I can't find anything disproving it but it probably hasn't had time to spread through google yet. :p It looks like someone shot a picture of the manual booklet with a digital camera or something.
Fishie @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM

As much as I'd love to belive this, the helmet is a 'shop job of a BMW helmet:

Hug-me, in the article you linked, Iwata does not state that the Revolution is not the successor to GameCube; he just doesn't confirm it. But also of note is that the article was from June 14th of *last year*.

hehe, thanks will was wondering what the general source was for the helmet,

Moz @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Onuo: yeah right, like our ultimate goal @ Moz La Punk is to get in the news of some random site. Please don't flatter yourself.
It's like this, Moz La Punk is mostly a place for 'amateur' written articles about games, like reviews, columns, etc. With the E3 show there were some rumours about Nintendo and it got a little out of hand, so that's where a part of Moz La Punk's visitors is now. So ofcourse, when more rumours come into play, they get placed on the main page, since a part of the visitors is really waiting for that.
It's clearly stated in the article that it could be fake just as well. Basically, it's the Internet that takes it a step further and goes and post it on every site.
Hope that clears some things up. Moz La Punk was never intended as a place for fake stuff, it's just a site written by game-addicts for game-addicts.
Michel Musters,
head of Moz La Punk
k @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Here is a good reason it might be fake. I watched the vidoe for the ON system and it seemed to take in cds through the top. Since the Revolution is placed sideways (the cd tray facing the side) inside the helmet... How can you insert CDs from the top and play??? or if it is in the top than it must be heavy cuz of all the hardware needed to read the cd and project it etc... Which is impossible since there will be a million kids that would love to play this!!
aegis @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
The Japanese that is on the development kit manual is utter gibberish.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y69/Sage1337/rev2.jpg
In Japanese it looks like a section on a "technical writing". Since it seems to have been taken out from a larger article it makes no sense. It seems like it is from a Japanese advertisement for a company that will translate and write technical documents for you in english.
From this:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y69/Sage1337/rev.jpg
This is also literlly unreadable. Looks like the guy(or gal) cut and paste random japanese articles and put them together. You can even see the area around the text that he selected with photoshop. He seems to have even cut and paste the text "development kit" in there as well while the text next to it says "filming".

Grumbler @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Sorry mate but you need to get a sense of perspective, they're only games consoles and they are made by enormous global corperations.
Also, for anyone planning to make more fakes:
-The revolutionary part is the controller (or other input device) not the display (or whatever the helmet is supposed to be). I very much doubt that Nintendo are not going to go down the root of the virtual boy again (thank god) that was a disaster.
-Revolution is just a code name/working name, its like calling the Gamecube the Dolphin or the N64 the Reality.
-The Box shown at E3 was just a prototype Box so don't put that all over everything without at least making it smaller.
onuo @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
To be honest Michel Musters, No. 29...
The "shame" goes mostly to the lame nintendo fanboy who took the time to do this but more importantly to the news sites like yourself and engadget who seem intent on posting this crap everyday...
It is obv/ to everyone that the whole "ON" stories have been fake (see the engadget "box of chocs" post) so why fuel the fire to these sad losers by printing their work?
Also, you can't tell me that no websites have ever faked their own news to gain vistors, google "iwalk spymac" for instance !
I come to engadget daily for my gadget news not for obvious fake rumours, please let gizmodo list them !
onuo.
Moz La Punk @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Onuo,
if you took the time to do some research you would find that:
a) the Moz La Punk site isn't a place for fanboys - while I'm sure there are enough of them on the forums (hey, show me a forum without fanboys and I will be shocked), it's totally unbiased, and;
b) there really where some strange things going on around E3. A lot of 'clues' that seemed suspicious.
If you followed it all you would have known that I actually was very sad about the high visitor count - Moz La Punk is just a simple blog and the gigantic number of hits didn't do me any favours. So no, none of this was for publicity.
I hope that's cleared up now.
