OS X for x86 already in the wild?
Wow, now that didn't take very long. Apple had OS X for Intel machines (which we're lovingly referring to as OS X86)
under wraps for a half a decade, and not a week after its
announcement, a "developer version" is apparently already in the wild on P2P and IRC networks. Supposedly it can be
installed on just about any PC box, and Rosetta and the iLife suite are fully operational; one can assume fairly
sketchy hardware support though, and the finer details like updates are probably out of the question without some
serious shoehorning. Some are calling this stealth marketing, but if we know anything about Apple (and we'd like to
think we do), we've got a sneaking suspicion that they, just like everyone else, just can't keep a lid on their more
highly coveted goods forever. Just like we have a feeling no amount of caveat emptor-ing is going to stop a lot of
people from giving it a go—you know we are so not going to install this on all our boxen.

Here's something interesting: Rosseta and XCode were made by Transitive corp. I think that it is just Quck Transit code. That's something that you don't hear every day. check on the Transitive web page to see who are the costumers for this company.
its a fake my friend got a copy of it and it was an image of a butt hole on boot screen. Fake fake fake.
LATEST NEWS: there IS a real osx intel torrent out there now, although it isn't quite complete (no apps and apparently doesn't include a working GUI yet - it's prompt only, although there is going to be a way around that as soon as a developer helps out).
Check out my website http://www.macx86.co.uk to read about this and other latest developments about OSX for x86 machines.
And now for a comment worth reading, since I see they're few and far between here.
Apple does have x86 versions of *Darwin* available for download. The source code for every release since Darwin 1.3.1 is available if you want to build it yourself, or just snaga the x86 (or PPC) binaries.
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/
For those of you not in the loop, Darwin is the core of Mac OS X. There's no Aqua GUI, so it can't run Cocoa/Carbon apps; it's basically a FreeBSD shell. It'd be nice if someone could hack Aqua onto this, but I highly doubt it will happen.
As for the developer version of "OS x86," I believe Apple's developer hardware (I think I got the specs from TwinMac.com) is a 3.6 GHz Pentium 4 processor on an Intel 915 chipset. So if you don't have a i915 chipset with a P4 processor, it probably wouldn't run even if you found the actual software.
I've heard rumors (rumors, I say) that Apple won't be going for a BIOS. They'll sooner use an x86 version of Open Firmware. With their collaboration with Intel, though, a lot of signs point to them using EFI instead, not only to replace the legacy BIOS but also to authenticate the hardware as Apple-compatible.
I've got Tiger running on my Lombard and my PC's running Gentoo (technically dual-booting with WinXP). If you want to try out OS X, go on eBay--I hear the old Blue & White Power Mac G3's can be had for less than $100, and they've got plenty of room for upgrades if you decide you like it.
i personally would like to see microsoft purposely disable windows from running on x86 macs. it would be a good, "in your face" type of move, and with the attitude apple has, it would be no more than they deserve.
microsoft wants their os to run on everything, but until apple decides to stop the idiotic business practices, ms should just say no to the fruits.
I can't really see Microsoft disabling windows form running on apple computers with x86 processors without effecting any other computer on the market.

Your comments show that you're a "fanboy" as well. Oh well, enough of the childish name calling that goes on whenever the words "Apple", "Microsoft", "Nintendo", or "Sony" come up.

There is a large difference between Apple not having their operating system run on all PCs and Microsoft not having Windows run on x86 Macs. First off, look at how much each company is worth. Second of all, Apple can't just put out OS X for all PCs because then they'd need a huge hardware support library to have built, not only that, but OS X wouldn't run anywhere as fast considering it wouldn't be optimized for any specific computers. Do you think companies as large as Apple and Microsoft use "in your face" techniques and little battles like that? Nah.
This is all about knowing what you want :
- You want OSX because it's nice looking ? download tiger theme for windows !
- You want OSX because it's powerful ? download some linux Debian or SuSE distros (you will not regret it !) or even Darwin
- You want OSX because it's nice looking and powerful ? Do step two + install enlightenment and aqua theme, it has exactly the Apple Aqua look and feel !
Now, for motivated people (I'm not ! Got my PB G4 and my PC Debian sarge ) there's maybe something to do with the Mach micro-kernel sources to port it to x86. Then you might be able to build the rest of the system (Darwin and Aqua, but I think there's no chance you would find Aqua sources on some server...)
But anyways, having Mac OSX running with booting up a cd and clicking a couple of times is definitely not for tomorrow....
I am a long time Mac user and I find this whole thing to be kinda funny... this absolutely proves that Mac OS X has been the better system to have all the time. People just didnt use it because they are cheap as heck when it comes to computer hence not purchasing Macintosh actual computers. Now it appears on a cheap white box and everyone jumps on it. The computer world is full of Hypocrits who support only what they know... Now that the Mercedes Benz is that much closer to them driving they dump the little trndy Hyundai for some real wheels. Sad Sad Sad! I know someone will respond to this message only because this is true what I am saying.

Guys.. no one has yet said its been installed and can prove it... so until then its a hoax. Move on.
161 i think its just the lure of the forbidden fruit.
162 i have a patched iso ready to install. ill post a pic or someting
Mac OS X 10.4.1 Tiger x86 on VMWare 5 and Native
just a lil link that may be of intrest

;)
Anybody who thinks this is a hoax obviously hasn't downloaded the OSX86 vmware .img and dd'd it onto a clean hard drive, put that hard drive in a system with a supported video card and booted it up. It doesn't run all that great, and there are visual artifacts in the window shadows, but it DOES work.
But Kierre, then how do you explain that OSX appears to work faster on Intel machines vs Macs?? Where's the Mercedes vs Hyundai contest? Perhaps people did not want to pay $10k for a computer running slower than their $1k one, and that's why they didn't go to Apple.
Lests get Apple to fix something thats almost broken and get them to see there os if so i would put it on my Com-Mac
U can grab it from here

Is sais "Apple.OS.X.x86.10.4.Generic.Install.DVD", so ..have fun.
I have successfully installed OSX on my P4 machine with a hdd image. The system works great but with no sound and the network card is not recognized. I have a NVidia graphic card with 128 MB VRAM but the graphics are a litle slow.
Running it right now.
Mac OS X: Tiger 10.4.1
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.21GHz (Yes, my computer does know this)
This is definately not a hoax or some smart person porting it, it accually knows what HT is. ^^
Runs great, just need a compatable sound drivers and ATI drivers and I got an OS X system running perfectly!

Your a fucking idiot.
Mac's suck. My Linux box is more powerful than your peice of shit "Macintosh" will ever be.
That doesn't prove shit. It proves that advanced users, unlike yourself, are intrested in testing a new OS.
Don't try and bring money into this. I could have all the money in the world and I would choose my 1.8 ghz Intel Celeron over Apple hardware.
I'm replying to this not because what your saying is true, but because what you are saying is retarded.
Keep using your eye-candy, closed-source toy while we (Linux) continue to run the world for you.
If any other Mac using faggots have a problem with what I am saying fucking come with it bitches; Email me at: aklc@hotmail.com.

Me personally I would love to have OSX on my dell pc..lol i mean damn people we can all dream and have hopes. I mean if happens it happens if it don t it dont. just wait and see. Technology is an amazing thing...just remember that
