The SPH-V7800, Samsung's five megapixel cameraphone with 3x optical zoom
Samsung's finally figuring out that it's not all about the megapixels anymore, and are adding some extra niceness to
the SPH-V7800, their new five megapixel cameraphone, like a 3x optical zoom lens auto focus, a flash, manual white
balance, 13 different scene modes, a widescreen 16:9 picture mode and support for PictBridge. The rest ain't bad
either, and the V7800 also has a QVGA LCD screen, EV-DO, a
MMCmicro memory card slot, and an
antibacterial silver nano coating.

Impressive. I'm all about the all-in-one device, but is this going too far? Is it getting heavy, bulky, unreasonable to carry around?

I normally carry my camera everywhere, and my phone. Having both in one would save me the extra bulk, and this looks much smaller than my camera. My only problem would be battery life... how many pics can it take on a charge? Is it coming to the US? That'd be nice.
This phone is a monster! LOL. Is this is the HUMMER of cameraphones?
Is it Quadband or Triband? Quadband is well worth the investment and it would be a tourist's most valuable item. What else would you need while touring a major European capital? A bottle of water perhaps and you're all set.
#5 -
Quadband or triband? Get a clue - EV-DO means CDMA, not GSM. This phone won't work in Europe, period.
This phone is EV-DO? Not GSM? What's the point then? C'mon Samsung, you can do better than this. We both know Verizon isn't going to carry something like this any time soon so why don't you do everyone a favor and release a GSM version. Can you HEAR ME NOW?

#7 - This phone would never come to the US, regardless of GSM/CDMA. It's obviously for the korean market, where CDMA is prevalent.
Yes, Verizon phones suck and they are cheap bastards who will never bring a great phone to the market. What about Sprint, though? EV-DO is jsut around the corner, and they need a killer app to combat verizon. They just busted out the first 2.0 MegaPixel camera in the US, so they are not afraid of new technologies. They had one of the first, if not THE first, camera phones in the US as well. I could see this phone, or one like it on Sprint.
GSM isn't all that anyway.
That is just asking to be broken. Unfortunatly the front of the phone is rather ugly.
Someone please put a camera like this onto a phone with a PDA OS and QWERTY keyboard, even if the resultant device weights 170g. Whoever does this will have as many free drinks as he wants the next time they visit my town.
Flamer's,
GSM isn't all that anyway? You haven't been to Europe I take it.
What's your problem anyway? English isn't your native language? Or are you just lacking in the people skills department?
I couldn't care less what you think. When you decide to contribute to the discussion like a civilized human being, let me know. I'll be around.
The optical bit looks suspiciously similar to Pentax's Optio line
I wish to buy this straight away!
The model isn´t on www.samsung.com yet, when is it due?
We have been looking for a camera phone with high picture quality. The SPH V7800 looks promising.
This phone is due out before the end of the year cording to this webpage.

Johny: Yes, I would buy it the first second it would be confirmed that this would worka across europe.
Having 1 cool gizmo instead of 2 lousy is worth a few quids :)). And anyway, I found I don't really need 8megapixel phots, 3mpix with decent optics in a small package is all I need.
This phone is what I need. Especially I don't like to carry MP3, Digital camera, and camcorder, and Phone in my pocket and my neck. This is what I was waiting for. Samsung is the world best electric company now. No one can beat samsung now. That's for sure. By the way, Samsung has both GSM, and CDMA for this phone, they will release this phone in Korea, and Europe. Samsung can't release this phone in U.S market because they're too advance than any other countries. Also U.S market has too many rules. I just want you guys to know about Samsung has actually better bluetooth as well, all the pictures or video from phone, you can print out from bluetooth, and also you can listen to MP3 and call to people without opne or slide phone, they also improved voice recognition. I'm trying to ask my friend to get this phone to bring in U.S to unlock and use it thru Verizon. lol
I'm visiting Korea this week and had a chance to go hands on with this thing. Beautiful - absolutely beautiful. It looks professional and has an excellent quality build. I've seen it in bronze and dull-silver and the casing is just striking. The photos are awesome as well (7MP version coming in a month!) but I have concerns over the battery life -- nobody can tell me just how long this thing operates on a charge. I too usually carry a 5mp camera, treo 600 and my USB stick - so consolidating the phone and the camera together is my reason to buy. Too bad this will never make it to the US or Europe... =C
Is it a smartphone?
