PSP stuck pixel fixer?
To be honest with you, we're a little bit skeptical about this one, but apparently some folks are reporting success
with fixing the dead stuck pixels on their
PSPs using this method (some are reporting failures, too, so obviously YMMV). It's a video file derived from a DVD
Best Buy gives their customers to correct dead pixels on LCD TVs by flashing red, green and blue over and over again —
so theoretically this is supposed to work anywhere you might be afflicted with a stuck pixel. It runs on all
PSP firmware versions, and the advice is to let
it go for several hours or more, periodically checking with the white and black test screens to see if the stuck pixels
have come unstuck. Good luck, and let us know the results of your voodoo.
[Thanks, Ghazi]
P.S. It's worth mentioning that epileptics might want to give this flashing light trick a pass, mmkay? [Thanks, Justin and Large Juan]

bah. i ran it for 29 hours. no result, still the same 8 dead pixels at the same places. but it was worth trying anyways [:
welsh_elmo @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
It Only Works for stuck pixels not dead ones!
Karan Panchal @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I tried this yesteday, let it run all night, i had 6 dead pixels, and im pretty sure its got rid of 4 of them, but there are still 2 left, which i dont think it will remove as welsh_elmo said, it probably only fixes stuck ones, not dead ones. Give it a shot, it mght just work
themulf @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I had to run it 3 times looped, and it worked. It fixed all of my stuck pixles, but i still have 2 dead pixles, which was expected. All i need now is to fix the fing scratches.
bt @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
is this video available to download for a standard (pc) lcd?
donovan @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Where can I find this video file? Can it be run on an Apple LCD to fix stuck pixels?
Darius Wey @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Re: #5 - The link on the site points to an MP4. Simply grab hold of an MP4 player (e.g. QuickTime) to play it. No guarantees it'll work on your PC though.
Jon @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I've had success with fixing stuck pixels on my IBM Thinkpad by simply switching down to 16bit colour and then switching back up to 32bit. Your results may vary.
Cano @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Ghazi sent this in? He's a clown.
Adam Lynch @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I ran it overnight, on my PSP that had a pixel that was stuck on green.
Worked like a charm. Outstanding little trick.
duncanbojangles @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I've heard of another trick for fixing stuck/dead pixels before, and that was to gently press the screen at the location of the stuck/dead pixel. I've tried it before on an old Thinkpad and it worked, though YMMV.
Eran Hawke @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
This wouldn't be an issue if Sony would inprove their quality control.
Perhaps they could run this video on all screens on their assembly line.
All in all though, there isn't an excuse for dumping so many dead-pixels on the market. Nor is there an excuse for accepting it.
Gregory Pierce @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I agree with Eran, no product of any sort should ever have ANY dead or stuck pixels :) Now if only the economics of reality would make this possible.
Large Juan @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Is a white pixel stuck or dead? Thank you.
mattharvest @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Answering #12:
A pixel that is always 'on' i.e. always some color while the system is powered up, is "stuck". A pixel that remains black, no matter what, is "dead". The former can apparently be fixed using this video (although I'm unclear as to how, at this point) while the latter is a permanent problem.
Ghazi @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
bt,
theoritically it should work on all lcds.
Edwin Avalos @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
In reply to #10 that only works if nothins is actually protection the LCD i think the PSP has a plastic coating over teh screen so that wouldnt work
Large Juan @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
An epilepsy warning would be nice. I nearly swallowed my tongue, dude.
TIMMAH! @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
What causes pixels to get "stuck"? How does this lead to them getting unstuck? Just curious.
Jay @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
#10, nice cheap shot even though this has nothing to do with sony's QC. it's just the nature of LCDs.

I have 3 stuck white pixels. I've now run this video more than 24 hours. No luck. I heard white is the hardest to un-stick. EB won't exchange my PSP either - they say it has to have more than 6 *dead* pixels. Stuck pixels don't count.
quickie @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
i have one pixel on my ibm thinkpad that ist neither stuck nor dead. It just got the wrong color. the color actually changes with the color it is supposed to display. What kinda pixel's that?
Carl Abramsson @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM

honkball @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
epilepsy warning? how about, and I quote:
"flashing red, green and blue over and over again"
in the future, just translate that into
"*** EPILEPSY WARNING ***"
Brucifer @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Quickie: that's a rebel pixel, also known as an insurgent. The only way to 'fix' an insurgent pixel is to terrorize all the other pixels until it comes around to our way of thinking.

I've got 1 dead pixel almost at the center of my screen, so annoying, I'm gonna try leaving this on overnight. I doubt it'll work, but if i get more dead pixels from this, hopefully then I can get it warrantied. Would everyone mind posting how long they left this thing on for?

#'s 20, 21, 29:
Although it is true that dead or stuck pixels are a real problem for LCD displays in general, there is absolutely no excuse for the shear volume of defective merchandise released by Sony in the form of the PSP. Never mind who is actually supplying the screens themselves. I personally experienced six consecutive defective PSP's inside of a week (four in the space of an hour), all at the same retail store. To me, it is fair to say that the hardware offering here is unsatisfactory.
Crambo @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Where do you get this video which fixes the pixel problem? I can't find it.
MH @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I had a psp shipped over from china, seemed to have 11 white pixels, only show up when the screen is black or watching movies in wide screen. This really P****D me off. Now 3 days later, i have come to terms with it. All in all I can live with it, just means I will have to buy a UK one in September. Why have one when you can have two.
LiquidSnake @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Sony has messed up big time on these LCD screens. I recently bought my psp from Walmart, when I opened it i realized it had 5 Dead pixels therefore I returned it to walmart. Once I got there I decided to get an exchange and I told the lady I was going to open it and test it before I took the PSP home, She agreed. I opened the new PSP and there were 7 dead pixels, we opened another one there were even more, we opened another and there was a huge scratch on the screen. I don't know what Sony is doing but they better get their act together soon. There are many loyal Playstation fans but they shouldn't take advantage of this and sell faulty products. The whole PSP experience is based on the huge 16:9 ratio screen.... and If the screen itself is defective it really deteriorates the experience on the psp. I know 1 or 2 dead pixels may not seem like a lot but it is noticable and shouldn't be seen as being normal. Sony is currently taking a stringent stance on the LCD dead pixel case, why? no one knows. Anyway to conclude the story after testing about 8 !!!!!!!!!!!! PSP I decided to get a refund until I can somehow, somewhere find a perfect PSP. I will not pay $400(CAN) to get a faulty system with a screen which does not work. Sony DO SOMETHING SOON. I'm out PEACE.

I just started running it. I have 6 stuck pixels. I will post any results.
You all should not be bashing Sony or any other companies for that matter for stuck/dead pixels. 1/100th of a percent of the total number of pixels or more would have to be defective for companies to not ship that screen otherwise they would be trashing tons of LCDs and LCD displays would cost way more.
There are a lot of improvements to be made with LCD technology, for now we are just going to have to live with a few defective pixels.
Pieces @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I just ran this and after 10 mins or so most of my white pixels vanished! great!
Chris @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Got my PSP, yay, it had 1 stuck pixel, so i took it back, got a new 1, couldn't see anything wrong. It has 2 stuck pixels, have been running this video for about 15mins now, no luck yet. Will post if i have any joy. Sony, what are you doing, you charge us the Earth for your product, which we buy mainly because of the screen quality, and you cant even get that right. Its a joke, sort it out, sooner rather than later, for your sake and for ours

Having stuck pixels donsn't make the PSP defective. The psp still works, it still plays games. I have a 2 or 3 stuck pixels, a dead pixel and some slight dentage in the front cover.
When in games it just disappears.
My brother has a 10 year old game gear with so many dead pixels ina large clump its stupid but you really don't notice them once you get playing.
You don't have the right to have a PSP, if you don't like it problem then don't buy one. I'd rather have the handheld of the century with it's screen problems than a perfect DS any day.
Just get playing and stop bloody whinging about dead pixels. Could you a screen better. NO so SHUT UP.
Go complain to sharp or Samsung, they make the screens. Sony put the psp together and ship it out. They've already gone to the lengths of replacing your PSP with dead pixels but at the end of the day it's a minor problem compared to the awesomeness of having a psp and being able to play ps2 quality games anywhere. Just play and forget about the dead pixels. I do.
