Sony Ericsson's new W600 Walkman Phone

So we hit up that Sony Ericsson press event this morning and caught a gander at their new W600 Walkman cameraphone (among other things). Unlike its candybar older brother the W800, the W600 doesn't actually sport external media by way of the MemoryStick Duo slot (sigh), but it does have 256MB integrated memory, MP3 and AAC support, a standard 1/8th-inch stereo headphone jack, FM tuner, 1.8-inch 220 x 176 pixel 262k color display, 1.3-megapixel camera, stereo speakers, Bluetooth, and tri-band EDGE support (wonder which carrier this is going to?). Though it's not due until the 4th quarter, we got to play around with it for a little while—we were into the swivel form-factor, but on the by and by the phone felt a little toyish, by no means as robust as the s710a. That screen though! Oh boy oh boy does Sony Ericsson know how to get a nice lookin' LCD in there, even despite the occasionally lower resolutions. Lots more pics beneath!

That phone looks nice in the "glamour shots", but the shot of it being held has the phone coming off as cheaply constructed.

Haha, the N91 is going to be sooo expensive. The phone is heavier, and clearly of better build quality all around. Its feature set is a lot more than the W600, and in the end they are aimed at two different markets. If you can afford (and are willing to part with that much money) a N91, this phone will be a joke to you. But for the vast majority who would rather spend the same money on something else (probably a HDTV by the looks of the N91s current pricing), this phone is a decent alternative. Lack of MSDP is disappointing though. Its clearly not aimed as the same market as the S710a.

u dont only get a phone
u also get a 4gb mp3 player
2 megapixel camera
series 60=smart phone(or pda whichever way u look at it)
so if the price is about 900$ id say that its a bargain

EDGE won't mean just Cingular for much longer, it's public knowledge that T-Mobile's gonna be EDGE-ified Real Soon Now(tm).

How u got the N91...i thought it wasnt due until the end of the yr. What about the software is not good. The w600 looks good but the N91 is just wow. Well looks amazing from what i've read till now.

U cant compare w600 with n91... they are playing on diferent leagues, you could buy 2 or 3 w600 with only 1 n91, and the functions on w600 are very good for is "size", i mean they aren't to extravagant like the n91 (by today standards) and not poor. I prefer a memory stick than a micro hd drive because is probably a lot cheaper and less problematic (there are no moving parts in a memory stick ;) ) and you can change the size of your memory to suit your needs and wallet. Unfortunately w600 doesn't accept these, but i believe that 256mb is totaly aceptable for an mp3 function, and that is what they are selling :)

Basically, if it supports the 850 band (GSM) which it does Im 99% sure it will come to Canada under Rogers Wireless. I'm guessing it will be in Canada around Feb 2006.

Well, w600 has nothing compare w800 as in spec. It does has a styleish spin, but what's the point getting a mp3 phone with only 256MB with no memory slot. Price, I saw on some site that you can pre-order it for $299.99 (Unlock), but not sure how much will Cingular sell. Comparing w600 and N91, there is no compare at all, mainly of the storage space, 4GB and 256MB, comon.

With Disk 2 phone (that comes in the box, or can be downloaded at their support web site) you can control the compression at the time of transfer, through the drop down toolbar of target bit rate. This is the same program used with the S710, and it was beyond effective in maximizing song storage. I personally use the target bit rate of 96BPS and have had no problems. So I assume with the W600, this will be the way to push the envelope and get a ton of songs on the phone.

It is the same as the Sony Ericsson W550i which is 900/180/1900MHz and it is unlocked. It has been released in Overseas for more than 2 months now and it is available in US at romeohifi.com and 1worldgift.com. The price of it is cheaper than W600.

This is the first quad band EDGE phone from Sony Ericsson, which is a brand I prefer because it has the best bluetooth support for hi-tech interfaces (see www.phoco.net).
So there are no other options. I would have gotten the S710a if it were quad band.

I picked up one of these this past weekend. the 256 mb seems to be pretty ample storage, I have 34 songs loaded up and just under 100mb free. Only gripe is that the high speed x-fer cable software doesn't work with macintosh, but the bluetooth does. The orange can be taken off, it also comes with navy faceplates (which mine is currently rocking). As a phone this thing has excellent functionality. The headphones that come with the phone are garbage, big surprise there. All in all, I'm extremely happy with the phone, and the construction isn't 'cheap' or shoddy once you get your hands on it.

the w600i it's a very good cell and in my personal opinion the only thing that i don't like its 256 memory for my needs its too small but on the other hand evrething works very good

este telefono es muy bueno tiene todo lo que se necesita , es como un i pod , una palm , un mp3 player,camara digital y telefono en un solo aparato es increible solo lo de la memoria no me gusto es peque?ero si es verdad le caben 60 canciones mas o menos pero para mi necesita mas espacio un saludo desde hermosillo sonora mexico

eh so wot???wots wrong about w600? at least its not worse than n3220 0r any nokias that dont have any infrared and with low memory huh its jus because N91 IS THE BEST PHONE BECAUSE OF ITS MEMORY ..WELL ITS NO BETTER THAN ANY OTHER N3310...well to all of you HU ARE SO HYPOCRITICAL THAT THEY SAY THAT THEY LIKE AND CAN AFFORD N91 WELL LUK AT UR PHONE AT THE MINUTE....DOES IT LOOK LIKE N91??WEL IN YOUR FACE!!! and the orange is cool and not DISGUSTING ur just too afraid to tell people that you like that phone because believe you me.... you cant afford N91

Man, I have to say, I LOVE my W600i, I work in the cellular market for a company that I can not mention. (That does not carry the W600i) and I have to say, this phone rocks, I killed 2 birds with one stone, A new dependable strong phone, and a MP3 Player. I knew before I bought this device that it was going to be good simply because you have two great names Sony Ericsson, and Walkman, (guess that is 3 names, lol) This phone lives up to the hype. If you don't have it already, Get it, you will be completely happy!

Buy the Sony w600. I had the s700 and i sold it to buy a w600. The s700 is too heavy and big. Its melodies arent good. They sound too bass.
