Alright, listen up Photoshop hax0rs, we know what you're up to and we're posting your shots anyway. In other words,
insert obligatory disclaimer here. But hey, if Nintendo really wants to make a controller that looks like this panda
dog thingee… well, who are we to stop 'em?
I don't think you guys get the joke. It's supposed be making fun of Nintendo's penchant for "simple" game design. What could be more simple than one face button?
dear engadget,
if you can take an image of a 'leaked' controler into photoshop, copy one side of it to a new layer, set that layer to 'difference' and line up, say the analog stick's so they are to the pixel identical, well thats a hack.
Definatley looks fake to me, looks like it's come freshly rendered from a 3D package to me. Besides, having two analog sticks like that is rediculous, they lok like the ones from the N46 controller which was a crap analog stick compared to todays standards. Also where are the buttons, even the Sega mastersystem had more buttons that this.
Well, for starters its a PAL Territory Grey Wavebird Pad for the GameCube. It is the left part of the pad, duplicated,. flipped, stuck onto the right of it and it has the box at the bottom where there is an orange power button shortened and turned into a button, the green button "A" actually, wiuth the letter shaded off. Anyone couldve made this, and it really isnt that impressive fake IMO!
Infact, the basic shell is flipped, the analog stick isnt flipped, just duplicated and moved, with a different shadow direction, which is stupid when the shadows on the grips ARE just flipped, meaning some phreaaky lighting would be needed for this conecept!
I rate it as a "just grabbed a product image of amazon and edited it in 3 mins in PS /10"
Being perfectly symmetrical or even a 3D render doesn't make it false. Let's say Nintendo wanted a picture of the controller to get out: nothing's stopping them from releasing some sort of mockup instead of an actual photo.
I think the fact that you'd have trouble playing past Nintendo games using this controller is a far better reason for it being a fake.
Its not photoshoped, no, not this one.
Its a sign from another world.
It's an alien!!
Nintendo must have been their first target, Just thinK about it, Revolution, its not a console its a warning! Run while you can!
THEY TURNED IT DOWN AND POSTED THIS BULLSH!T INSTEAD. Clearly they don't want to post anything unless it involves making fun of Nintendo. Eat me Engadget.
I'm sure you guys would at least rather see them post interesting controller theories like this one than the only thing they can find to diss Nintendo with.
It seems that Engadget is more concerned about being humorous, even if it is ridiculing one of the gaming's oldest companies. All the other Rev controllers that Bender has been posting is 1,000,000x's better than what Dybwad posted.
Novint allows you to feel 3d objects within a virtual enviroment. They are releasing a console version next year after their PC launch. We know they aren't making it for Xbox or PS. That leaves Nintendo, Novint certainly isn't making their own console, you can see the popsci article that mentioned it here (http://www.popsci.com/popsci/whatsnew/article/0,20967,1047109,00.html). They said they've made some big investments in a gaming company.
Nintendo said a large company has made some huge investments in their controller design. It all fits pretty well, the guy that did it summarized it up on some forums. He said this was just his first attempt, he thinks he discovered a easier controlling method harnessing Novint technology that Nintendo may actually be planning on using.
How about a set-up where your thumb rests where the tip of the pen is in the current setup. Sort of like a joystick, but floating a 1/4 of an inch above the controller? The set up could play old nintendo games because the motors could be programed to simulate the arc of a joystick.
your getting there... to be honest I'm taking a step back here... think traditional controller... now one side has your typical buttons and the other side has a joystick/ D+Pad.... OK, now replace the D+pad/Joystick with three small (I mean really quite small) arms that rise from the surface of the controller. The intersection point is roughly the same height as your common console joystick. You hold it in the exact same way you would hold a controller (Thumb resting on the top of the joystick, fingers wrapped around the arm of the controller) For classic nintendo games, the "feel" function would be turned off AKA the arms would restrict in/out movement. The result is something that feels exactly like any old controller joystick... however, if a programer WANTS, they can allow the "feel" mode, so that the arms register up/down/left/right/in/out movement. Lets say you are playing a 3-D adventure game and you are running around on rough terrain. as you push the "Joystick" foreword it may resist you a bit if you were, say, running uphill. I could throw together a quick copmputer model, but I think the point is... you would hold it like a traditional controller... just with a joystick that can be pushed in or push back.
If you read the descriptions it notes a lefty attatchment
I think the key thing here is that a revolution in control does not need a revolution in form... You can get a lot of new functions out of minor mechanical changes... for example, the D+Pad is no more than 4 buttons attatched to eachother, but they completely took over the way controllers were made. the creation of short thumb based joysticks follow the same concept... the controller did not need to drastically change form, the joystick changed to fit the controller... This technology is currently in the form of a pen/classic joystick, I think it could easily be changed into a thumb based control for video games. While the pen design makes sense for surgeons, gamers need a defferent interface entirely.
ive always thought that since nintendo said it would be a control that was gonna let you play their entire game library, it would prolly be an lcd touch screen with a couple shoulder buttons, that way the button layout could change. alpine has already developed a touch screen that allows you to feel the buttons so nintendo can prolly get the rights to that technology.
and to everyone saying its a fake control its chopped, you would have to be an idiot to think that was a real control. but thanks for informing all the idiots that it was P/Sed
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
where r the buttons?
for some reason i think it looks preety cool
what the hell....
Nintendo said it would be able to play all previous and current games - so it will look familiar - make some effort you lazy people
Engadget - you guys are bias like Joystiq - shame on you
:)
That's reet fake and no mistake!
Surely...
hopefully it will come bundled with that robot-thingy, so we can play the pizza game the way it was meant to be played.
I don't think you guys get the joke. It's supposed be making fun of Nintendo's penchant for "simple" game design. What could be more simple than one face button?
LMAO!
An animal with big, buggley eyes!
I hope that button in the middle is the "WIN" button.
:)

but i still love you.
I'm loving all the fake photoshop stuff that's coming out these days.
What the...
Whoever did this missed one thing at the top where theres a slight curve it is more shifted to one side than the other.
i have a big feeling its real!
Funny...
I think, though, that's pretty much the dazed/exasperated/shocked/drugged look most Nintendo fans probably have with the no-HD announcement today.

it is the pokemon controlera it have a electric attack a confusion attact and can evolve to the mighty bongocontrolera
Maybe Nintendo bought the rights to Katamari Damacy, and it'll be the only game available for the Revolution.
Fishes,
narco.
I love the hypnotized "eyes".
YOU WILL BUY MORE NINTENDO GAMES.... YOU WILL BUY MORE NINTENDO GAMES...

Is that the "Win Game" button?
Yay!
I like the idea of a "Win" button, because I'm retarded at best.
God bless PS and all the joy it has brought into my life.
...Actually, I'm thinkin' it's looking more like Edvard Munch's - The Scream (or the Cry...)
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/munch/munch.scream.jpg
...and it duplicates my sentiments of the overall design as well. :)
Its not photoshoped, no, not this one.
Its a sign from another world.
It's an alien!!
Nintendo must have been their first target, Just thinK about it, Revolution, its not a console its a warning! Run while you can!
Its obviousley not because the rev is gonna be back compatable with the old game cube controllers
Obvious fake. The right side thumbstick is just a copy of the left one. The lighting and perspective on it are wrong for it's position.
There are other obvious points, but that one's so easy to see, it hardly warrants pointing out the others.
how could there be 3 buttons
FAKE!
Apple fans are right!
You do need just one button!!!
Actually, that's kinda scary. It looks like the creepy cartoon hallucination from Paranoia Agent
The controller actually looks like something you would see in Pikmin.
The controller actually looks like something you would see in Pikmin.
One button ?
Did Steve Jobs design that thing ?
Or maybe Lord Sauron ?
Or am I being redundant ?
You're all idiots. It's not even meant to be a 'ooh maybe it's real' picture. You just don't get it.
Mine's funnier. ;)

PROOF ENGADGET IS ENTIRELY BIAS AGAINST NINTENDO.
This brilliant (although many may disagree) mockup was sent to Engadget.

Peter Rojas said no to this down yesterday!

And posts this today! Happy 5000th biased post Peter.

This is the Nintendo/Novint Mockup:

And this is the Novint Demo VIDEO explaining thr technology:

Actually Novint will sell the PC version of the Novint Falcon for $100. You can check it out.

that is fake and it looks like a piece of garbage.
you mean sort of like this version NNFB Joe?? he just finished this one.

Yes I see what youre saying. I like it.
regarding the novint thing, what happens if you're left handed- would you need a different oneeee?!?!wd.d.d.d.d
