Teddy Ruxpin gets with the times, goes digital
Get ready for the official revenge of Teddy Ruxpin, childhood bedroom star of the 80's, slated to descend once again
upon retail outlets this coming September. In version 2.0 we witness a major upgrade to the internal analog cassette
method favored back in the day — Teddy's gonna be rolling with digital story cartridges that will be, of course, sold
separately (three cartridges included with purchase). You'll want to set your calendars for July 1 when you can start
placing pre-orders at $69.99 per Teddy. Happily, we don't think this unit will be
reporting back to the mothership.
[Thanks, ax0n]

Ruxpin is a bitch. I want the bear from the movie A.I.
lupinstel @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
How soon until he is hacked to say naughty things?
Paradox @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
"I'm going to eat your face, David Letterman."
"Wait... That's one's kind of specific."

god I miss my old teddy ruxpin, it was soft and cute, that one looks kinda scary.
yuppicide @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Oh man I can't wait to see hacks for this come out. If they're hackable with ease I'll definately buy one.
Wonder how many words and sentences I can fit on a 256mb flash media card?!

They Are releasing this v2 way to soon, If they waited a couple more years then people that had teddy ruxpin as a child will be able to buy it for their kids. I am 23 right now, I had it when I was 4 (which is the age group targeted). I dont know anyone my age with a 4 year old child. So if they waited until lets say I was 28, which I know alot of people that are 28 with kids 4yr olds they would sell a ton more. Its not like people that never heard of teddy ruxpin will buy it.
Punisher2k @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Um, my brother is 30. He had one. He has two kids. Just because you aren't getting any doesn't mean everyone isn't.

heh Teddy ruxpin came out 20 years ago, So your brother was 10. Hell when I was 10 I was shooting off rockets, catching lizards, riding bikes, making stuff... Not sitting around playing with a baby toy.
josh @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Yes -- it's all about you, Daryl.
consumer_q @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Wait, so I can no longer take an N.W.A. cassette and put it into a Teddy Ruxpin? What is the point?
Adam @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I hope they fixed the lower mouthpiece. The Original had a glass jaw, so to speak.
kiddanger @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
holy crap my friends and i are were discussing ruxpin like two days ago. i hope they dont update his look to a new "hipper" teddy ruxpin like they do to all our 80s toys, when re-released i.e. TMNT, Master of the universe.
Bryant @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Just make him 75% less creepy and MAYBE we'll talk. Mine only came out during daylight hours.
yem @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Haha, this is a great post. I'm sure many kids had a few nightmares about this thing.
3: What show was that on? I want to say Robot Chicken, but I don't know if it's right.
11: You made everyone at work look at me strange. I busted out laughing picturing Teddy Ruxpin bustin out "Straight Out of Compton."

When I submitted this, I must say I was mildly disturbed. Creepy talking stuffed animals scare me. But they are gadgets. I think.

I still remember the X-mas I got a TR, within minutes my big brother had him singing Judas Priest.
Ahh.. the memories.
JD @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
Man, I don't care. I'm 20 and I'm all over that shit when it comes out.
Mark @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
One of the most important changes in my mind would be to finally make the thing softer. The original was large, chunky, and pretty heavy for a stuffed toy. Essentially it felt almost exactly as if someone had just shoved a tape deck into a stuffed bear.
Dionte @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
This was the best toy ever made, you can place advanced orders at www.teddyruxpin.com, I already placed mine, get em while u can, supply might be short.

I remember this and my friend who had one and I didn't hmmph... Anyway all I've got to say is I don't want to know Mr. Ruckspin unless he is wireless and plays for sure!
KImberly @ Dec 19th 2005 1:23AM
I have great memories of Teddy, the whirring noises, how his muzzle moved like a duck's bill his lower jaw dropped off though, and he still kept talking!

I remember Teddy Ruxpin making whirring noises and his muzzle moving like a duck's bill.
His lower jaw fell off after getting slammed in the door, but he still talked for quite a while

I am very excited about TR -I have two little boys a 2 year old and 8 month old. I actually have my old TR still and my 2 year old plays with him. He will occasionally work -But my 2 y/o tore up most of the tapes -$69.99 is a little pricey for me to buy it for them right now when they would just destory it, but mb I'll buy it and put it away for a few more years when they can play w/him w/o destroying him. TR was my fav toy as a child-I wouldn't go to bed w/o listening to him - I was born in '81 so I think I was about 3 when I first got him -Danielle

20 years ago I was 33. I bought TR for my niece. It was hard to let go. I will buy another one-for the grandkids of course.{yeah, right}
