Untether that light switch (and wrap it in lucite)!
From Generate Design, the people who brought you the
light bulb in a clear plastic brick, here's a natural
follow-up: a light switch encased in lucite. And, yes, it works. It's a wireless remote with a 100-foot range that you
can use with any lamp. At $119, it's about $100 more than a Radio Shack remote that'll do the same thing. But, face it,
that Benjamin buys you a lot of style.

To be honest, America has the most ugly switch in the world. If you ever travel to Asia and see the switches there, you'll be surprised. They're modern and sleep, and they look good on the wall. The switches here are just terrible, like the ones made decades ago!!

At least we don't have the most ugly people in the world

(#2 - LOL)
...not to mention our switches are hung on the wall in the correct orientation, off is switch down, on is switch up!
and we've moved beyond knob'n'tubin' wiring.

Americans don't have just one type of switch. Most people do go with the cheap ugly ones, though. I suppose the type of switch in your home has less impact when the home is 3000 sq. ft. versus the impact of a switch on the wall of a 500 sq. ft. home.
By the way, this looks like a Mac ripoff! ;)

I thought "encased" meant embedded in a solid block, not sitting in a hollow box. Coolness--

The switch I see the most often anymore (in the US) is the boxy square kind. (Like this: http://www.sensatech.com/common/images/light-switch-2way.jpg ) It's my fav... It's always easy to use, easy on the eyes, and best of all you can get models that light up when they are off. Yay light switches!

i bought a wireless light switch from biglots for 5 bucks. its from GE and works like a charm. it also allows has 4 house codes which you can change very easily and each house code controls up to 8 terminals. so i can pretty much control 32 outlets from one controller. id rather buy another one of those then spend the the $119 on that peice.

Switches in US are uglier than in other courtiers, but help is on the way.
www.anigmo.com makes Touchless Dimmer Switches that can use Anything as a switch plate!
