Yet another Nintendo Revolution controller: we don't need no stinkin' buttons
Well, may as well continue on the march of the purely
speculative Nintendo Revolution controllers, shall we? Here's the latest, which has the distinction of having nary
a single button. And looking like a UFO. And coming replete with a really tiny, grainy image to obscure any
Photoshop-type detail and, of course, add to the mystery of it all. Yeah. No buttons? That's like, so new age, dude.
Anywho, we submit here for your approval, plus the read link goes to a catalogue of all the offerings we've seen
floating around so far.
[Thanks, Tim S]

i call fake...
bet they just used the psp design and then blacked it out and made it slightly more curved... well htats what i see...
bah, stupid fake controller pictures
this is the final official pad from nintendo
http://www.fentek-ind.com/kblpusbc.jpg
go away, you bore me now.
Despite how sexseh it looks, I think it's fake
although i call a fake, i like the idea, it actually adds something to it, you could add whatever buttons you wanted, but i would prefer some kinda of backlighting to portray buttons, otherwise it would completely fail with the young/simple minded who still need to look at the controller, also i would prefer tactile feedback rather than just plastic touchscreen like my microwave, if it wasnt for the airplane like tone i wouldnt have a clue that i pressed the button, im very surprised we've gone for so long without even seeing an 'official concept' (yea, oxymoron, o well) from nintendo
Wow that looks sweet. The mockup 3rd from last on Dij's link is fantastic, I'd take either that one or the one in this article any day. It's a shame neither of them are likely to be real, although the blue lighting is more consistent with the revolutions disc slot light. I think I would call either of those revolutionary if they have the right bits and bobs inside :o)
lol i'ill say it again...its a rumble robots controller with all the buttons painted over
Lol am I missing something, or is his link is just a picture of a keyboard...
Hey testing if this works
Hold on I will post link. With evidence that this could be the real deal
OMG, EVERYONE GO HERE TO READ ABOUT IT!

I doubt this picture is the final design.
That said, Reggie Fils-Aime said (on G4, during E3) that the controller is going to be something special because of the fact that you can't easily play an NES game using a GCN controller. In the end, I expect some sort of customizable controller with variable layouts depending on the type of game that the player boots up.
Let's be honest: Revolution has something cool going on. If Sony and Microsoft kill Nintendo this time around, and this does end up being their last console, I can't think of a better way to go out. The Revolution is going to rock for the hardcore gamers. Fine, you want to play DVDs and MP3s on your console? Be my guest. I want to play games.
Now, if they could coax NEC and Sega to allow ports of TurboGrafx, Master System, Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast games then that would completely rock. ;)
w00t! wow, amazing, most definiatly buying the nintendo revolution if it goes through with this, it seems weird, but leaked images of x360 were doubted for a while, but there they are
i see good things in nintendo
Ruari: shut up.
its a rumble robots controller!!!!!!
does someone want to explain why he keeps feeding us the link?
nintendo sucks... end of story (enless your 6 years old)
Michael Gage sucks 6 year olds, end of story
Nintendo tends to have a childish look about their consoles, but merely because they enjoy a commical appearence. To say they suck, and to say that you must be six to enjoy their products, is like saying you have to be a 25 year-old, unemployed man living in a new york slum, who can't afford a computer, to play Xbox. That's all I'm saying...
what if the whole controller was 1 button like those apple mice?
lol #20
yea, we read it, its a good read i suppose but its not worth posting seven times, nothing is
i guess its kind of interesting that the same design is pictured in the link- http://www.optimalcamouflage.com/rev-con.jpg
i mean that would be amazing... imagine playing with it. especially if the gyroscope technology is integrated... whaetever. nintendo rules
controller could work like this...
http://www.jazzmutant.com/
Bring on TUNW!
Reminds me of the LCARS interface on Federation Starships. :]
It's already been confirmed by Nintendo representatives that the controller would not have a touch screen interface.
There is no screen on that design, but touch sensitive panel.
No, no. It's not without buttons.
Theres two around the sides, reflecting on Nintendo's general desires for a controller - Start, and Win Game. That oughtta keep the kids quiet.
Unless they want children to touch more stuff?
Nintendo fans must be bikers.. yet another mockup that uses a photoshopped motorcycle helmet (it's a visor with the bottom cropped out).
The glowing blue things could be sensors. Not buttons.
A touch screen or touch panel on a console won't work because there's no tactile feedback. You'd have to constantly look down at your hands to make sure you're pressing a button. I'm not sure what Nintendo is up to, but touch screen/panel technology currently available on the market is probably not it.
This touch panel works along with force feedback so you do feel a response from your touch it
To the above poster...

This is be the answer...
While this image is fake, I think the actual design and idea will be the controller. That controller has customizable controls, just imagine playing a game, and your controls are mapped out onto it (leaving out the buttons you dont need). It would be able to play adapt itself to snes controls or gamecube...
One thing I don't like, how is the analogue stick going to work.
Touchscreen for a controller will suck like hell. Palm and PPC have games that uses touchscreen. Doom, Quake, and Hexen port game uses touchscreen that user can set up. It's a terrible way to play game because it's not sensitive as button. Also, you'll get a bunch of oily, sweaty thumb print all over the screen. If you get piss off at a game, you can't just throw the controller down. You might break the screen. Touch screen controller are not cheaper to make. Nintendo need to stick with what users are already used to, not some stupid gimmicky device. Touch screen controller is not innovative, it's already use in remote controller and many other devices.
does anyone think that this pic looks like the back of a controller? The way it curves it looks like the back of a controller, which would make the blue things shoulder buttons and the face of the controller is on the opposite side. Perhaps not, but I dont believe that a touch screnn will be used, increase price and increased power drain on wireless batteries. Not to mention that it would scratch. read my post here if you care about my opinion http://www.optimalcamouflage.com/rev-con.jpg
I personaly think that a controller that can split into two, each with a gyro would be a great idea (if done right) read at the above link for my quasi proof.
damn i put the wrong link here http://forums.gamespot.com/gamespot/show_messages.php?board=909104101&topic=21656631&message=233611193#M233611193
Perhaps it's some kind of flexible rubber on top of a complex button layout, but different buttons configurations will extrude for different games (profiles).
Sounds expensive tho!
http://www.optimalcamouflage.com/rev-con.jpg
The text under the pic says that the controller reacts to the players movement. And that the controller reacts back in some way. This does sound true because there have been rumors out that the controller will have a gyroscope.
On the other hand is the text written like a very crappy babelfished translation, and two words are not even translated. My conclusion - a very pretty fake
I just hope Nintendo produces something great again.

Very very fake. I don't think they're going to go that far from the basic analog stick, analog buttons scheme. That's the standard for gaming controls and the. Digital controllers actually get kind of laggy. And it feels really really nice smashing buttons, you know? Who'd want this touchpad thingy?
I imagine if there's truly support for the past console formats, then there has to atleast be a Start, Select, X,Y,A,B,L,R,Z,Camera-button(maybe joystick?) It will probably look like a little bit of an evolution from the GC controller, maybe made a bit more ergonomic.
Cheers, Brett

Brett, you are wrong.
I think the best idea is probably the extruding buttons concept that Jim mentioned. As for Brett being "wrong" I think he's probably right. The best controller... though I doubt they'd make it... would have some sort of screen technology with extruding buttons... the buttons would come up on the screen which would get pushed forwards in the button locations, allowing for tactile feedback and customization... very expensive and probably not going to happen though.
As for games being hard to play... I don't know why any games would be hard to play on a gamecube controller. I play NES games all the time with my PS2-like PC controller, and there is no problem at all. I don't see there being any problems with the GC controller. Meh... whatever.
Sorry about the double post,
kffjjffff, why are you so quick to say that?
Brett
its a freaking rumble robots controller with the buttons photoshoped off!!!
fischju,
Hahahaha, you're so right, the creator is totally busted :P
Cheers, Brett
because there's obviously something unique about it. magazines have "reported" there wont be a traditional button scheme, theyve invested all this interest in neat controller companies.
"If you put all those controls all lined up together, they're all very different. So think that kind of device will let you play all those different types of games?"
"Analog stick. Boom - gone. Rumble Pak. We bring it out and everybody has to have rumble. We got the wireless out first and now there's wireless everywhere. So we have to keep it under wraps."
i cant imagine this being said to hype just a traditional controller. whatever,
NINTENDO RULEEEEES!!!
the touch screen was my idea! i hope they use it.
When I first heard that comment from reggie I immediatly thoguht of something like http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F003%5F007%5F000%5F000&product%5Fid=15%2D2133
It would be able to change the configurations between different systems and I know some remotes like this also have a button like feel where it is kind of raised so you just are tapping, but pressing. Remeber, Touching is Good.
Boxgamex
Ok all those pics of that big black controller are real.
P.S you know who i am :P!!!
Ha you know who i am!!!
#52, i have that exact remote, it works great, also its very eye-catching, and after about a week or two you dont have to keep looking down on it, theres no tactile as far as the texture goes, but u can feel the buttons underneath it
if youve ever taken apart or broken a keyboard you know that the keys arent really the buttons, but theres a very short, rubber "button" that the key presses down, when you press a button on the khameleon remote control #52 posted, it feels like your pressing one of those down, so its possible you can still have pressure sensitivity, and as far as analog joysticks go, a circle where you can move your thumb freely could be more precise than a joystick
Frank Johanssen
LOL!
That was the absolute best comeback.
That's not very "revolutionary",
You still have to hold the controller in your hands!
? Would you rather hold it with your feet?
it will be in your hands read every interview with every nintendo head from after E3

rumble robots it is.
Personally, I'm hoping for a control system more akin to the likes of this:
http://www.4colorrebellion.com/media/pics/jun/rev_yam.jpg
WHAT YOU DARE DISOBEY REGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listen, everyone. The revolution has wireless controllers. But, anyone who has done their research will notice that it also has four GC style controller plugs mounted upon the side with the disc caddy. This would suggest that the Revolution will use the wi-fi tech type controllers, with the backwards play will employ GC controllers, plugged directly into the console. It doesn't take a genious to figure this one out.

I've played games from all other nintendo consoles using the gamecube controller and was fine i dont get what the deal is
i agree with the 'back of the control theory' or maybe they have customizable face plates for the controls one for each console that you could put onto the controller? as they seem to be going with the whole cutomize thing with the gameboy micro. just an idea :)
going more upward in this thread, i dont see why nintendo would go soo far into creating a control that is quite frankly ''out there''. this technology could possibly be implemented in future consoles, but to put it in the forecomming consoles would be far to expensive for the maker. That said, do you think nintendo would invest in the control to play the games on the console, or would they invest in the console and games itself? think people!!! :)
