Nothing screams fashion like dangling diodes, ladies. Be the first on your block to wear your inner nerd on the
outside with pride with this matching necklace and earring set made of 57 1-amp diodes. Or, give the gift of geek for
the low, low price of only $320.
A fabulous ex of mine made exactly these designs years ago. Not sure if she is still doing it but a concern was the nasty chems used to manufacture electronic components, and the fact that they are not really meant to be placed against skin (sweat is very corrosive).
I can't see this as being in any way different from the jewelry I constructed as a kid back in the mid 70's, when my dad worked as a circuit board inspector and always had handfuls of random components lying around.
It looks like you could actually just make that yourself. They didn't do anything more then bend the ends of the wires. Save yourself $300 and make that crappy gift yourself.
Or just buy her Pizza, I'm certain she'll be just as impressed...
If you buy them 5000 at a time, DigiKey has 1n4001 diodes for 1.7 cents each. That's $85 for 5000 diodes. DigiKey part number 1N4001MSTR-ND. That's enough diodes to make 87 of these at a materials cost of less than $1.00 each.
Thanks for your advice on diamond earrings. I have been looking all over the web for a really nice pair of diamond earrings and had a hard time finding a site that had a really unique selection. I finally found three sites that have a good selection of rings. The first is Fay Cullen www.faycullen.com, the second is is Pearlmans www.pearlmansjewelry.com and the third one is Lussori http://www.lussori.com. I also tried Tiffany’s Web Site httP;//www.tiffany.com but it was really hard to navigate.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Damn, that's hot.
Wow, an EE's dream come true!
Or make it yourself for about 1/8 the cost. Unless you shop a radio shack, then it will cost full price.
Very pretty... but in no way affordable.
If I bought this for my girlfriend she'd kick my ass

Salesdrones from Swarovski to DeBeers are shaking in their boots at the sight of this.
The shaking is being caused by laughter, of course, but still...

this is so beautiful! they even have dorky comments: "Keep those frequencies under control with this necklace made from medium-inductance toroids."
now all you need are panties made from tin foil and you'll really be freeqy!!
