Nyko's iPod Movie Player
We're going to have to completely ignore the industrial design of this thing this time around if we're even going to start to approach it (wasn't it so much better the first time?), but seriously, Apple should have had a video iPod out like a year ago, right? Well, Nyko's forthcoming iPod Movie Player nips that in the bud from another angle. It should have an impressive 3.6-inch 640 x 480 65k color screen, and, you know, a dock connector for reading the files off any mini, 3G, or 4G iPod. Nyko even managed to get freaking video-in capabilities on the thing, so you can record video directly to your iPod's drive. Ok, so we'll still be able to warm up to this thing, alright?

>>when is this dropping...
late oct/nov $199-249 as written in the read link
Just like any ipod accessory, the price could buy another ipod... And to get good use out of this, you would probably want a 60gb ipod photo setting you back with a grand total of $700!
Max @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Well, it's cheaper than buying a video player if you already own an iPod.
Joseph T. @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Although this is awesome, I am afraid of buying such an item. in fear that Apple will release a Video iPod soon after. Also the fact that the software won't be available for Macs until next year. Their logic about PC and Mac owning iPod users seems like total shite to me.
ghosty @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Ipod Linux is playing videos without audio.. only a matter of time before the audio is included. This includes the Photo and regular ipods (monochrome)
IK-47 @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
just buy a psp you apple hoes.
Tim @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Ummm, a PSP with that much storage would cost too much, that's why Sony hoe.
Matt @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
wow, that is pretty rad.
my last plane flight was taken up by watching family guy on my ipaq.
but i only have so many cf cards.
to be able to store all my family guy epis, and maybe my athf episodes as well on my 40gb pod. w00t
DankLogic @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
This is going to be your best best for playing videos off of an ipod until Apple makes the video ipod. The Ipod-Linux video player will never be able to play high quality video as well as sound, the ipods processor simply can not handle it. Now that apple and intel are in bed together, i'm sure Intel will make Apple a nice little mobile chip to put in their video ipod. For now i have my psp.
Richie @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
I don't understand why they are gearing up to release something that can record video when the iPod still cant record properly from a line in! or did I miss something?

"...ignore the the design industrial design of..."
been having a bit to much fun the night before gentlemen?
Spellcheck @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Ehm, I think you meant "too" there, matt.
Is there anything more hilarious than people correcting people's grammar and/or syntax, and then, boom!, they fall right into their own line of fire?
Yeah, well, there is, but it involves clowns and huge guns, so it's not something that's easily done.
Shravan @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
PSP. And its only $250. Cheaper than having to get an iPod AND the attachment.
my name @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
riiiiight, and the psp has 40gb of storage?
KorinFox @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
I believe the key phrase here is:
Battery Life
Any word on how long that ipod battery will last playing video on that screen, decoding it, and pumping out audio? My Archos AV420 gets about 6 hours of video out with the LCD on low brightness (by all means still viewable) and gets maybe 10-12 hours or so of music.
Says the iPod photo gets 15 hours for music and 5 hours for slide shows, if you can get 5 hours of video with this gizmo, then I'd say it's worth it to the people who have high capacity ipods. (or travel enough to justify buying one)
Jonathan N. @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Or 60GB. Move on trolling moron.
Jonathan N. @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Its cool and all but why the hell 4:3?!?
If you are going to do this do it right and make is a widescreen LCD.
rotten_fruit_fan @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
And this is better than an Archos because?
Jonathan N. @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
"And this is better than an Archos because?"
Oh I don't know. Maybe because its stupid to buy ANOTHER device when all you have to buy is a screen for your existing iPod and pay less then the 350-600 fee for an Archos. Yah just maybe that's the reason. [Insert rolling eyes emoticon here]
gadget girl @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
The Nyko Movie Player has a built in rechargeable battery that adds 6 hours of playback time, and doesnt use the iPods battery, according to their site. This means 3 full length videos w/o needing a charge.
Im definitely into this for my 40g.
mjsmitho @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
The iPod hard drive is not designed for sustained use such as streaming video. The HD drive will fail very quickly using this.
Kenny @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
Spelling?
Isn't it iPod photo instead of iPod Photo?
TCM @ Dec 19th 2005 1:01AM
20gb ipod + video deck vs. cowon x5.. that;s a pretty close call if you're retarded.
ThePete @ Jan 3rd 2006 4:01PM
So, now that the iPod 5g is out, is this puppy still going to see the light of day does anyone think? I've checked out the Nyko site and can't find so much as a mention of this device...
