Xbox 360 to make peace between PSP and DS?
Be at peace, gamers, for rumor has it that the Xbox 360's hotly discussed
extensive
3rd party hardware integration and support
will include—no, you definitely did not see this coming—methods for allowing PSP and DS users to play
Microsoft games online with their devices through the 360, and with one another. Of course, this is completely
unconfirmed, but sometimes bizarre love triangles really aren't that bizarre. Bring on the unity. Feel the love.

phhhh....there just doin that cuz they cant come up with a good portable system of there own. thats sad.
so what the xbox360 will kick ps3 anyday
And Microsoft says they are not trying to take over the world.
I agree with #3, xbox360 is trying to leech off of something else because they can't come up with a good portable gaming device.
I bet all it's gonna do is let the psp and ds connect as a wireless access point since the psp obviously doesnt do anything special besides being memstick reader w/ usb and searches for access points w/ wifi to play psp games unless MS makes psp games (doubt that).
uhh #3 billy g already said he has no interest in making a portable game system. if ms wanted to they could easily put out a good system.
hahahahah #1 holy f**k i was about to declare flame war against you but you made me LMAO. hahah good post good post.worthy of number 1
MS is pretty smart. They know that the 25-35 year guys (most of them fathers by now) enjoy video games. Those same guys have kids now that are just getting started into games or already glued to them. This is the best way MS can reach out and grab everyone. I have an Xbox and PS2, but also got DS and GC for my kids.
Only MS would dare try this. Neither Sony nor Nintendo would both because of worries over litigation, and because they want to keep their customers locked-in to proprietary solutions.
The thing is, is that MS looks good for offering this fuctionality, AND it adds value to the 360. Add to that they have deep enough pockets to fend-off Sont et al., and that's all that's required to understand this development. :-)
This makes a ton of sense, business-wise. It's a great way to sway PSP/DS players over to the Xbox 360. EG playing Halo on-the-go sounds great, but I know a ton of people who would by a 360 just to be able to play it online. If you have a Revolution or PS3, you are tied to a particular handheld, but the 360 lets you connect with either handheld. Great thinking, Microsoft! (If it is true, of course)
this is genius-- the 2 big portable systems are transformed into---> peripherals for a competitor
why not? microsoft doesn't compete with other portables and this will attract people to XBOX 360
Could Microsoft be sued by this?
Imagine this, M$ being sued by two huge comapnies, Sony and Nintendo...
"Davids and Goliath"
why would M$ be sued? if they were going to be sued they would have been for even sayong that they would incorporate functionality with the PS3 at E3. and besides that can even create more sales for sony and nintendo.
PSP*******
MS would have to break a deal with Sony or Nintendo (we pay you x amount of dollars for each x360)
Then again rumors are RUMORS!
Maybe the portables will be able to play against each other on xbox live
Billy G is smart not making a portable player. with cell phones and PDA who the hell needs a gaming system. oventually they will make gaming on PDA/phones much easier to play and will have ati nvidia graphics chips. so the smart thing to do is promote the Mobile OS(aka pocket PC). This goes to comment # three
It's actually ingenious really, cross-platform capabilities its all what people really want anyway. Now what would be really interesting is if Sony made its games XBL capable, now that would be down right twisted.
That would be stupid if Sony made peace with MS. Sony wouldnt have an advantage with the PS3 and PSP. If sony does agree, that would be the worst move you can make.
engadget rocks. I heard this from a very reliable source that there will be peace between all gameing consoles and there will be one ultimite console!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All i can see happening is me throwing my psp at the wall when i lose on xbl. then doing it with my ds. then the regular xbox 360 pad. so all in all, its just delaying the inevitable.
Hardcore. This is just the kind of news that might make me buy one. If I am swayed how many others will be two.
Even if you don't like MicoSoft you have to respect the pure breadth and intelligence of their onslaught into foreign territory they decide they want. Only Oracle seems to have survived a full out assault.
I agree with Viz, all the XBOX will probably do is act as a hub. I'm surprised they haven't advertised "integration" with PalmOS and PocketPC.
If MS wants to impress me they should let us use the XBOX to transmit roms to DS using the wireless multiboot program.
Just in respondence to someone mentionioning if Micro$oft could be sued for this:
The only thing happening, (if I understood right), is that some 3rd Party is creating a software title (hardware?) that allows the certain handheld to interact with the Xbox 360 as a peripheral, nothing else. Although, along with that comes playing custom games for each handheld.
And to someone that said they'd have to pay Nintendo and Sony....no way. They're not using anything sony or Nintendo owns, at all...and Micro$oft is not making the software (hardware?)..
:)
I don't know why no one said this before, but the console hardwares are usually loss leaders. Most of the profits come from software sales and licensing fees paid by the third party developers. Thus, I don't know how this will work out for MS if they wanted to be "compatible" with Sony and Nintendo. Does MS need to pay fee for each compatible console? I just don't see how this will be an advantage for MS.
who cares whos kicking whos ass? the real question is how are games supposed to be played between the DS and PSP when the PSP has much better graphics and handling? There will have to be some sort of limitation for both of the hand helds... a limitation that won't allow these peace games to have better graphics, pen support, MIC support, 4 buttons, etc.,lowering the game quality to Gameboy Advance quality. What's the fun in that?
Total nonsense. This makes no sense from any way you look at it. How would doing this A) make money for Microsoft, B) make money for Sony, or C) Make money for Nintendo. Unless you have a good answer for all three, you have no way to convince me that any of the three would spend any resources on making this happen. This kind of crazy crap is what happens when you get a bunch of uninformed bozos writing Web sites on slow news days.
Fear not my fellow gamers as Microsoft sort of unofficially announced they were going to work with the PSP I dont know about the DS.On some XBOX
360 show at E3 they were talking about wirelessly hooking up with other objects which on screen specifically showed a PSP so I think something is definitely planned
How do people not understand how this makes money for Microsoft? As the article says, "methods for allowing PSP and DS users to play Microsoft games online with their devices through the 360". Microsoft will get money by selling the "Microsoft games", the 360 and the Live service to play the games over. This isn't going to be available for any PSP or DS game, only those from Microsoft. Microsoft won't have to pay licensing fees to Sony or Nintendo because they don't use proprietary technology to connect to the PSP or DS. Sony and Nintendo will make money because Microsoft has to pay royalties for the games that they sell on the PSP and DS. Everyone makes money, and the consumer is the big winner because Microsoft is saying that they will support online play of their games through the 360 for the PSP and DS.
Who cares if the XBOX 360 "leaches" off the PSP and DS. Portables suck anyways (except to people who ride the bus or are still in highschool...). Why save a hundred dollars just so you can have a portable system that has lame graphics and a small screen? I would rather just go home and play a real system (XBOX) on a 42 inch plasma then waste my time and money on some stupid portable system that I can use while i wait in line at the DMV....

"Why save a hundred dollars just so you can have a portable system that has lame graphics and a small screen?"
You must of never actually seen a portable in a store or on the street because all three of those statements are pretty much incorrect.
The PSP and the XBOX 360 are both evenly matched. For the PSP, it has some great features such as: built-in MP3 and DVD.And Microsoft has taken the XBOX series down in size from the big ol' xbox down to the 360.However im a bigger fan of the sony products myself. BUT AS TOU ALL MAY AGREE,NINTENDO DS CAN SUCK IT!
