The Motorola Franklin… or should we say RAZRberry!
Ok, so here's a quick refresher for you, in case you've forgotten just how much we've been anticipating the
RAZRberry. Last we heard, Motorola was working
on a Blackberry-killer type qwerty candybar that was going to be done in the style of the RAZR, which some were
referring to as RAZRberry. Well, we've got the exclusive for ya: the device is codenamed the Franklin, and will have
quad-band GPRS/EDGE, 128MB flash and 64MB RAM memory, Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapixel camera, MiniSD slot, 2.4-inch 320 x
240 65k color screen, and will apparently run Windows Mobile 5.0. Oh, and did we mention it's freaking 112 x 64 x
11.5mm (4.4 x 2.5 x 0.45-inches) and won't weigh more than 115g (4oz)? So this is what it feels like to be in
love.
[Thanks, Rudi]

Since this looks like it was done in Photoshop and Illustrator, I'm guessing it will be out in time for Windows Mobile 6 to make it obsolete.
I had a PDA back when PalmPilots came out (bleeding edge and all), but, all I can think about when I see that is how pissed I'd be if it got stolen.
Looks sweet. If it supports me using my mp3's as ringtones, then count me in. AIM, good games, mp3 ringtones I can make myself is all I really want in a phone... and that full keyboard. I'll have unlimited internet plan and use the phone part for emergencies.
Problem is everytime I get all worked up with something like this, there's always one feature missing that I want and always prevents me from getting the phone.
This is adobe photoshop phuckery at it's highest degree....that phone ain't real!
You had me at "OK,"
NOTICE - the battery is dead in the picture shown
i love you guys at Engadget, but i have to call Shennangins on your "exclusive". This was all over the PocketPC sites last night. i think even Gizmodo scooped you on this one late last night.
re: Goodlink
great app, but it's a bit of bloatware. my Treo 650 users were getting out of memory errors when surfing the web. they all have pulled Goodlink off the device and are now just using the built-in Exchange Server Activesync.
Come on people, that's a mock up. If it were actually a photo, the keyboard wouldn't look like a fricking cartoon.
Peeps - relax - they make mini-sd wifi cards now. For those of you DYING for wi-fi, there will be a solution. Just don't expect to listen to MP3z and surf wifi at the same time :)
Clearly some guys or gals in Motorola are good at photoshop and cad. Hope they realise that having buttons that small to squeeze a qwerty key board should not be flush and flat like in Razor.
I can't believe how beautiful this thing is. Too bad I live in a country where only a few carriers are available and who have a tendency to only bring in crappy consumer level phones with useless cameras, no business functionality, and terrible battery life. All this so I can have government sponsored health care. Canada...
Looks SUweeet. But how much? Lots I bet. Still who says you can't buy love? thanks.
Sweet. So instead of paying $500 for a phone that I will break within a week, I can pay $1200 for a phone I will break.... within a week. And No Wi-Fi? Whats up with that. My feaking watch probably has Wi-Fi, but this Trillion dollar phone dosent?
how can motorola abandon apple like that and put windows mobile on it? i dont believe it, the picture looks way too fake.
Weak... I thought it was supposed to sport a similar form factor as the MPx. Sorry, not interested, I need a clamshell PPC phone.
re: Goodlink - your problem is with your Treo 650, not Goodlink. If you're an enterprise company you are crazy to run active sync- zero support, no full push sync- your battery life gets zapped and there are huge security issues. Good Technology made a smart decision to go open standards. Good is better.
I just jizzed my pants.
i hate win mobile! mac os phone please
it looks awesome but it will never replace a blackberry. unless this phone has "push" email its only as good as any other pda phone.
i rely on my bb every day and its instant access, and the 3rd party apps are not whats important to me. as amazing as this phone looks with no push email its useless to anyone that is a hardcore bb user. my $.02
It has been already announced at motorola.com --> http://promo.motorola.com/ProductPreviews/motoQ.html
It is called Moto Q available Q1 2006
Uh.. I don't think those are good specs.. Is it just me, or is mobile tech in the states way behind mobile tech in europe? I know this article is fairly old, but the product hasn't started shipping yet. Here in Norway (don't know about the states), Samsung is shipping a cell phone (47x96x22mm, 103g) with 81mb flash, microSD card slot, 2mpx camera, quadband EDGE, 320x240px 262k screen, POP and IMAP mail client, support for word, excel, ppt, pdf and more documents, and the list goes on... It isn't a real smartphone, but heck, I'd take it any day over the moto...
