LG readies iPod shuffle clone
Looks like the iPod shuffle knock-off game isn't limited to cheap OEM players anymore. LG Electronics (LG!) is now showing off their own display-free shuffle clone, which comes in red, black and — of course — white, and packs 512MB or 1GB, along with support for playback of MP3, WMA, ASF and OGG audio files. Much as we'd love to see a little legal catfight between LG and Apple, it seems really doubtful that anyone's going to get sued over this one.

I still can't believe cheapo brand Goldstar got away with changing their brand name to 'LG Electronics'. Now, they're crap is supposed to be good all of a sudden. Who's next, Emerson?

so now white rectangles are copywriten by Apple? I can undersatnad the super shuffle getting heat as it looks practicaly identical and the name is similar. This model doesnt only come in white, has silver buttons and by the look of the picture has atleast on curved end.

Its a wanna be...

If you want to copy the shuffle, at least try and upgrade it. (AHEM SCREEN)
TIMMAH! @ Dec 19th 2005 1:36AM
What the hell is up with this stupid "display-less" crap!
IK-47 @ Dec 19th 2005 1:36AM
LG is not Crap. I can tell you that first hand, as I have 2 LG Cellphones and a 8x DL DVD-RW. the stuff they are putting out (now), is pretty good.
This MP3 player is obviously a knockoff, but they can not be sued over it. Why don't you see DVD player manufacturers at each other's necks for making similar rectangular black boxes?
Brian @ Dec 19th 2005 1:36AM
I don't understand how any white, screenless MP3 player can be a potential lawsuit from apple. It's not like they own the idea, or color, or anything like that. If they think they can do that, why not sue every white MP3 player out there as an iPod knockoff???

With more competition maybe the prices will start to drop on these little pieces of crap...

LG is not a crap brand
and I agree with #7
I don't understand some stupid people..

#8 I was thinking the same thing since hopefully LG will make theirs cheaper, well they will have to, so they can compete with Apple. I still don't see the appeal of the shuffles, I'm happier with my iRiver which has a screen, FM tuner, voice recording capabilites, and really isn't that much bigger than the shuffle.

three simple letters: ogg. period.

guys Lg is crap, always will be....to me it was the same cheap little korean oem that have been since goldstar. the reason why u guys think they are ok is because u didnt know them since goldstar. they are still producing low finished products in shiny boxes just to fool u.
samsung has picked its game even though i think they are very dull to this day, but Lg is still dodgy.
SupaDawg @ Dec 19th 2005 1:36AM
Give me a break. dodgy? ummm, okay. I work in a hardware distribution house and LGe is one of our least RMA's brands. their QC has grown by leaps since the Lucky Goldstar days.
If you want "dodgy" hardware, try BenQ, Hitachi, ECS, ASROCK, or EPOX.
as far as this being an iPOD shuffle clone? You do know there was displayless mp3 players before the shuffle right? and white ones too (OMG!!)... People need to stop being all high and mighty on apple.
Gary @ Dec 19th 2005 1:36AM
I also agree, LG has very high quality items now as opposed to the Goldstar brand. I have had 2 excellent cell phones from LG and I have loved both of them.
