Cellphone sync buried deep within iTunes 4.9
iNow that iTunes 4.9 is officially official you knew that people were going to go poking around its insides, looking for clues about future Apple products, and it didn't take long for some dudes to manage to dig up an icon and a resource file for messages that'll be displayed when using the app with an iTunes-compatible cellphone, including "iPod Phone Prefs", "iPod Phone - iTunes Setup Assistant", "Mobile Phone - Updating Contacts", "Display album artwork on this mobile phone", and "Open iTunes when this mobile phone is attached." The name "Motorola" pops up in there, too, but we already know all about that.
UPDATE: Thomas just found this graphic buried inside iTunes 4.9 that gives a choice between maxmimizing
either the data (555MB) or number of songs (999) on your iPod Phone. Probably just placeholder text, especially since
555MB is such an odd amount of storage to have on a portable device, but it's interesting to see how all this is
shaping up.

nice.
too bad my phone doesn't have a screen.
It can be the iPhone Shuffle :)
My problem with this speculation is "how long into the future" are we going to wait? Especially for the non-Motorola phones (Series60 Nokias?). I mean really. Look how long iTunes has actually had the capabilities of supporting OGG and WMA (not that I care for WMA), but is it offered to the end users? Nope. As I stated on Slashdot, what I'd like to see with the iTunes 5.0 release is something more ambitious on Apple's part. Like releasing a free version of iTunes called "iTunes Server" for the end users. Similar to KnoppMyth...an ISO that is Darwin combined with iTunes. You burn it to CD and pop it into a spare PC (which would especially be nice for recent *Switchers*). It loads Darwin on it and and creates the iTunes Server. You then store all your music on this "server" and you control it remotely across your network via iTunes on your master iTunes machines (PC or Mac).
The big news here is that Apple usually has icons that look prety close to the real thing when it syncs, so with that in mind, the phone should look like the icon in iTunes (only a little less blury)
whats the big deal? you would think that apple would make something to sync with their iTunes phones. i'll stick with windows mobile 5.0 which is way more advanced and can do a whole lot more then manage some songs.
I dislike the "candybar" (that Nokia seems to prefer) form factor. I really think the upcoming *iTunes phone* will be a disappointment if there isn't a *clamshell* model also available.
nothing has even been anounce yet and jg is already stating that windows mobile is more advanced. More advanced than what? Nothing has been anounced officially.
last i checked they already announced a motorola iTunes phone. its obivious apple will support it through iTunes.
Yah, why is everyone wetting themselves over the itunes phone? Windows Mobile has been doing it for years now.
I finally installed iTunes over the weekend and all I can say is that everyone must be HIGH. Just another vanilla player/syncer/store music app. Granted it's not as lame as Music Match, but not by much.

Oh man, I'm not even going to touch this one. Have at it, boys!
You don't even realize it, but you're now a succulent steak being dangled in a sea of piranhas.
Grandpa up ther must be some retarded old man in a nursing home. that is all I have to say
I personally use both vi and emacs to manage my music. I mean really, who cares :-)

i would say that most people dont want a full PDA style app on there phone. just a iTunes style player...
