Nokia @ Digital Experience - Hands-on with the N91, N90, 6680, 6235i, and 770
Nokia dragged a bountiful bonanza of new handsets to Digital Experience last night, and though the biggest disappointment of the evening was that neither of the new 770 handhelds they had with them were working, we did get to check out the N91, the N90, the 6680, and the 6235i.
The N91, Nokias new 4GB
musicphone. The finish on this thing wasnt so hot (as you can see, it scratches pretty easily), but it felt really
good in the hand.
The Nokia N90 is very, um,
big boned.
The Nokia 6680. Nuff said.
A malfunctioning Nokia
770.
And rounding things out, the Nokia 6235i.

Holy crap, the N90 is HUGE. And I thought my Z500a was big for a clamshell.
Buy two of those things and use em as free weights!

I want a Nokia N91, but if I drop it then will the hard drive break?
Michael @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
have you ever dropped an ipod dave h? it'll probably produce the same results. plus the hdd isnt going to be used all the time it'll store stuff in ram. so "hopefully it wont be easy to get a bad sector.

Was the 770 actually dead, or did they just not want you to realize exactly how slow it is for the intended use?
Sigvard @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
I 'think' the N91 has an internal accelerometer. That should certainly help prevent the Hard Drive from breaking!

i own a 3650 by nokia and that thing has been dropped. if i were to buy a new phone it might be that 6235i. it has a one piece design and as long as has good optics and bluetooth i'm good to go. (Yeeeeeeeeeah!)

Wow that lineup is sad, my SE K750i is literally half the size of most of those.
Bernardo Carvalho @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
That's a 6681, not a 6680, if I am not mistaken...

Well, the non-working 770s are certainly a disappointment. Did they break down at the last minute, or was Nokia intentionally not going to let them work?
Gizmo @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
N91 looks pretty good. This is iPod mini with cellphone function. I need it!

I checked the n91, it wasn`t that big but it felt kind of heavy with all that metal. the joystick was not so easy to use, but i guess it takes some time to get used to. My biggest consern was the ventilation for the hd?(on the right side), it was allready filling up with dust and crap. I can only imagine how it would be after a week in my pockets. 802.11g and 3g paired with a 4gb hd running series 60 os, you have to love this phone. Its cool that nokia supports both mp3, wma and aac/m4a. Too bad its so expensive.

Wow! I'd have to compare them side-by-side to be able to tell the difference for sure, but they seem bigger than my PalmOne Treo 650, and no keyboard! The displays seem to be big so that's something at least. Better be one tough hard drive too!
Ronturon @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
yup, bernardo carvalho is right, that definitely is not a 6680. it's a 6681 or is it the 6682? i believe the 6681 and 6682 are the same except for the frequencies they handle. but anyway, one thing is for sure, it's no 6680. the 6680 has two cameras, one in the front and one in the back.
Mark @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
Not too worried about the size. These are the first Nokia phones that really multitask well, so they're likely to have a certain amount of heft to them.
2 things:
1. Obviously the N91 is a better music player, but with the 2MP camera, can you even take a self-portrait (99% of my photos are of me with mates).
2. The N90 is a better photo taker, but how good is the music side of things?
