Brooklyn teen killed over an iPod

We try hard not to buy into all the hysteria over iPod thefts and mugging, but this is just completely and totally tragic: police in NYC have arrested two Brooklyn teens suspected of killing a 15-year-old boy while attempting to steal his friend's iPod. Apparently the two suspects were part of a group that approached the boys and demanded the iPod; the boys refused and there was some sort of scuffle that resulted in Christopher Rose being stabbed in the heart twice.
Thats terrible....That really sucks that this happened to him...
from what I read the iPod wasn't even his, but one of his friends
if the other kid would of were better earphones, it might of not happen, but I doubt it

i dont know what would be worse tho, someone killing someone for their iPod or someone killing the mugger instead of giving up their iPod

This is tragic. I can't see what would trigger a person to stab someone for an ipod. It's terrible. I wish the best for the Rose family and R.I.P Christopher.
thats just sad. I mean you pay $300 bucks for a verrry good looking device, adn you can not even let anyone see it without being afraid of being mugged.i hate all of the muggers and all those gangster/robbers/people who do such a kind of thing.i feel so sorry for his parents, and they must feel like"o, the one time we let him on his own, he dies". Good thing he was heavily involved in church, as we all know one place that he will go that those gangsters will never go up to.if i was ever mugged, i would give them my little ipod mini in a heartbeat. i would much rather lose an iPod than my life.

In my day it was kids getting shot for their shoes. New year, new "thing", same old violence.
What is up with these gangs? Being poor is one thing, but to become a gang and take advantage over people by using force, what do they get out of it? If they really want to get an ipod, sneakers or whatever, WORK for it, just like everyone else does. Nothing is free in this world.
As the old saying goes, "what goes around, comes around." Hope those idiots get what they deserve.
Chris is lucky. He doesn't have to put up with this crap anymore.

If you walk around the street with a $300 ipod loaded up with maybe another $300 worth of gangsta rap then you should expect to at least get mugged.
Try walking around with a $600 gold chain and see how long you last.
The Ipod was NEVER in Chris' possesion.
This was a totally senseless death.
He has lived in Pa for the last 7 1/2 years. His family relocated from NY to get him away of the very thing that claimed his life.

This is a heartbreaking story, 15 years old...jesus. It wasn't, as a lot of people have pointed out, about the iPod. I'm hearing "If everyone had a gun everything would be better" ... good plan, let's all get trigger happy in todays increasingly anxious and paranoid world. As someone, so rightly, said - whatever they want to take, let them take it...also ties in with what someone else said - if you want an iPod (or electronic item), earn $200. If someone wants it let them have it, even if you have to save up again/claim insurance/lose face or whatever, it's just not worth it. I've got some mixed feelings about the kind of people that do this. On one hand, they're obviously not in the best of situations - financially, probably lacking education, family, peer pressure, modern day anxieties..who knows, but they shouldn't be doing this. "Let's get apple to fit security devices so people can't steal them" - actually shut the fuck up. Spraying water on top of a fire doesn't work, you attack the problem at the root and that way stand a chance of seeing results. These kids need educated, opportunities to make legitimate money, made to see the way 99% of decent people live on earth.

I personally knew 2 of the boys that were attacked Chris being one of them. He was one of the nicest teenagers that you could meet. He checked with his parents before doing stuff to make sure it was okay with them and abided by their decision.
There is no reason this had to happen. Aside form the Ipod talk there has also been speculation that this might have been gang flagging-something about when gangs go out and look for trouble.
I just pray for strenght for his parents - his family and his friends. Everyone that knows him can't believe that something like this happened to him.

One fo the guys was release becus he could not be identified by the other victims. UM- one of their best friends was just killed - they were attacked by many guys and they are expected to concentrate on who did this when they are simply wondering WHY?
