First "proper" Mac OS X for Intel torrent leaked?
Not sure what became of the torrent leaked a couple of weeks ago that had folks speculating that Apple was intentionally seeding copies of OS X for Intel into the wild (though signs were pointing to fake), but there's now supposedly a legitimate build that's been leaked, as "borrowed" from a test developer box at WWDC '05. Folks are reporting that they've gotten it to work by modifying the incorrect instructions from the leaker — if you wanna live on the bleeding edge, there's an install guide available.

The leak from a few weeks ago was a 600MB bootable goatse image.
someone hook this torrent up!
is this real? what torrent site was it found on?
if you guys read the install instructions you will see that you can install it but it will never boot into the GUI. not worth it. i'll wait for an official release.
As long as I can natively run OSX on my P4 650, I am a happy man.
we can already run darwin on x86, who needs the pretty gui :D
"we can already run darwin on x86, who needs the pretty gui :D"
noobs that dont understand the beauty and simplicity of the command line...thats who, jake... thats who
Who needs the command line? That's so 80's
C:DOS
C:DOSRUN
RUNDOSRUN
yeah, that's productive :-)
So, at first, I was all, like, beside myself. Oh well, looks like we'll have to wait a tad longer. Why do I get the feeling that Steve-O hmself "leaked" this, and now he's sitting back, laughing his ass off watching people (like me ), going into fits at the prospect of getting *some* semblance of OS X running on our systems? :-) Hey, we're one step closer, at least. Right? :-P
"Proper"? The headline is wrong at best, misleading at least. A proper leak would be a DVD .ISO. This is a few files from the harddrive that won't even get you into a usable Mac OS X system.
definitely misleading. I got all excited for a second.
Yes, i got a bit too exited aswell.. it's partly a propper leak.
I wish for the dvd.iso... too many uninteresting pcs around me.

I think it's irresponsible for Engadget for to even report this garbage. The last entry on a OSX torrent was "hilarious" if you define "hilarious" as "patheticly sad". Just because it's in a torrent does not mean it's legit.
This is funny, every 2 weeks someone post news like this, this must be 2005 years biggest commercial gig, pear-pc really tries hard to get free attention....

since when do we have any torrents that are "legit"?
I'm sure a real FULL version will be out there soon! I'll wait.
Headline is missleading, my heart was like WUUUUUU for a second... thanks! ;(
Bastards! I'm getting tired of using Pear PC, at least until they get sound support. Then I'll be happier.
Rhombaldi predicted this in the 16th century.
Apple said that OSX would run on Intel. Apple never said that OSX would run on ANY Intel. Will Apple do some trickery to ensure that OSX on Intel only runs on Apple hardware?
when the official version comes from apple it will still only run on apple hardware but i'm sure we could fix that....... jobs said that the intel os will be tiger which is already out.....
Hey, wow, more great reporting from Engadget. They've just linked to information on a really difficult, illegal way to install Darwin on x86...something that one could do for free and legally for years.
Great job, guys!
Instead of trying to run OSX in some handicapped emulator or from a hacked illegal copy posted on the Internet, why not invest in a $100 G3 and get the real thing?
"why not invest in a $100 G3 and get the real thing?"
Because regardless G3, G4 and G5, all of Apple models fail all the time, especially the iMac G5. It is a great computer, but there certainlly some design flaw with this thing. I had the midplane being replaced by Applecare 3 time in a row, its a bloody waste of time.

Someone from Apple actually DID say that OSX will NOT be able to be natively installed on x86 Intel chips but stuff you can install on x86 will install on the new Macs. That means you can run Windows or Linux (a distro besides YellowDog or whatever) on the Mac but you can't run OSX on a PC. So, you can install an OS that crashes constantly which you can install on an old $20 Pentium2 box on this new expensive hardware. That sounds exciting...
