A wireless thermometer for your lazy cookout
If geeking your barbecue sounds like too much work, Oregon Scientific can help you achieve that hands-off cooking experience you crave with its new barbecue thermometer. No need to be chained to that grill when you can get a digital readout of the meat's current temperature sent to a screen clipped to your belt. In fact, once the device sounds its alarm to alert you of your ribs' impending tender perfection, we advise sending a minion to fetch them so your own haunches need never leave the couch.

Brookstone's had one of these out for over a year. I bought one for my dad, it talks and everything.

I snagged one of the Brookstone models and it's been a gem. Made the best chicken ever last week. Thanks technology!

Had one for over a year and one of the best investments I have made. More beer drinking and less smoke in the eyes.

Weber has also had one out for a while. I've had mine for a few months now and it's awesome. It's also a lot cheaper than others I've seen (currently $29 at Amazon).

Can it actually survive the heat of a barbecue grill? I used my wired temp probe in the grill, and it didn't fare too well even though it worked in the oven just fine.

Exactly my thoughts #7, can anyone vouch for the temperature ranges for either the brookstone or the weber? How accurate do they seem?
Thanks for the info.

Above posters are right, Weber has had a wireless thermometer (comes for free with higher end bbq's , or bought seperately) for at least a couple of years now.
We use it a lot, it holds up fine for the temperatures, and seems pretty accurate. You can even tell it what you're cooking (whole chicken, leg of lamb, beef ect.) and it will tell you when it has reached the optimal temperature.

I got one from Sharper image and use it in the UK.. the chicken works a treat, can't vouch for the pork though, because my god will kill me even if it is a cool gadget.
