Our summer splurge: the Aquabot T2 robot pool cleaner
We always thought the best way to keep a pool clean was to
hire some poor high school student to come over and deal with it every other day. But with
robots taking over the indoor household
cleaning chores (and with high school students making real cash by writing spyware apps), it looks like we should
consider hiring one to clean the pool at the Engadget beach house as well. The $1,400 Aquabot T2 can supposedly clean
any pool in about an hour; we're hoping the next version can serve drinks from our poolside bar as well (since, after
all, hiring a high school kid to do that is illegal).

What's next, are you going to replace the pizza delivery-girl and the UPS delivery chick with robots too? Have you no compassion for the sanctity of porn themes?
My family owns one of these wonderful machines. We have a fairly large pool in our back yard that is a pain in the butt to maintain. It would normally take two hours a day to clean, vaccuum, and filter the pool. With our aquabot, which we so lovely named Merlin, we just set the timer for a 7 hour cycle and let it to the job. The only thing we have to do is clean out the bag and occasionally use the remote control to reach the corners. After owning Merlin for 3 years, I would definitely say the 1400 dollars was well spent.
T2? only 798 model revisions to go before we're screwed.
I have thier Rover model for in ground pools. Works like a charm. Great value for the $$ at $500.
Pool cleaning robots have been out for at least 10 years...
Not interested unless they make a revision where it's powered off of the algee it consumes.
Our family friends own the company aqua products which makes these robots. Every time they call us it says aqua products inc. in the caller i.d. And we will get a good price on an aquabot if we ever need a robot that gets stuck in one spot in the pool and breaks in a day.
