Theft-resistant Secure Mail Vault
When you absolutely have to keep all your mail to yourself, or want your neighbours to think you're working
for the CIA, the Secure Mail Vault may just be your ticket. The unit has an extra-large drop chute and can store a
week's worth of average mail, which is only accessible by entering a user-programmable security code. And the company
says it'll withstand vandalism, tampering, weather and baseball bat attacks. It's also available in white, both
$219.99, but really, when you're buying something called the Secure Mail Vault, do you really want anything other than
gunmetal black?

... but its hideous ... why not just get a padlock?
Ever thought of just putting a slot in your front door?
Problem solved.
2. ROFL so true
Is it fire proof?
Fireworks are so much fun... ;)
Shaun, some people don't live in areas where the postal worker walks their route. Every route around here (very large suburban area) is driven, not walked, so finding a good secure mailbox might be important to someone.
This might seem like overkill to a lot of people, but the price seems sort of reasonable actually -- if it's strong. Smashing mailboxes is a lot of fun, or at least that's what I hear. Also, if you live in a rural area, where your mailbox might be down a really long driveway and not necessarily in view of your house, it's certainly not a bad idea to make your mail hard to steal.
At the same time though, if you have this mailbox, you're going to be the target of every kid with a car and a baseball bat or M-80.
While I think the idea's a good one, the design seems a bit too full on for me. I think it'd scare away anyone daring to put junkmail in.
Strangely, the "ads by Google" ad that showed up in my aggregator with this post was for a Rock Hard Maple Baseball Bat (seriously). That google has a sense of humor.

OMG! Look at the ad below! it's for close out bats and baseball gloves. what's up with that!
These are a little better looking, and have a regular lock and key

I like the mail clip on the keypad hatch - this way, the first time the postal worker sees this monstrosity, he/she will just confusedly open the hatch, stick stuff on the clip, and basically defeat the whole purpose of the dang thing...
Wow, that's weird! I woke up this morning to find that someone had opened up my mail and left it infront of my mail box... Maybe I need one of these things!
I feel sorry for you Americans! We have an even more secure "mailbox" than this in Britain - your house! It seems weird to me why you don't have letterboxes in your front door in America. It must be quite a security issue everyone having their post in a little box outside your house that anyone could easily break into.
A friend of mine once bashed in a mailbox with a steel pipe, the owner then bent it back out, so he smashed it off with a sledghammer. The owner bent it back out and put it back on the post. Next he bashed it off and threw it in a pond. The owner then started taking the new mailbox in and out every night, so the guy stole the pole. Now the owner picks his mail up at the post office.
I don't this is quite vandalism proof. I wonder what would happen if someone put a hose to it and filled it with water? :)

I think the whole idea behind the way we handle mail is that it's faster to get your mail if you're using a car instead of walking door to door.
Also I think they're starting to move towards community mailboxes where everyone goes to the mailbox and uses their key to get the mail. They probably think it's quicker.
I find it funny that after all that security your mail could still be stolen when you leave your bills for the mailman to pickup. See the letters in the front opened door in the photo.
I'd post a bomb in it, or maybe some milk
