HP iPaq rz1710 Navigator GPS - complete Pocket PC GPS system
Looking for a Pocket PC-based GPS system
that actually looks and feels more like a dedicated GPS unit? Check out the HP iPaq rz1710 Navigator GPS, which bundles
an iPaq 1710 with a car cradle that has a built-in GPS receiver. Pop the iPaq in, swivel it to landscape mode, and
you're up and running. Of course, this means you can't use the iPaq as a hand-held GPS unit, and moving it from one car
to another could be a pain, but you wouldn't do any of those things with a typical car unit anyhow. Available now in
the U.K. for £269 (about $470 US), which sounds like a pretty decent deal to us.

Wha?! You're kidding, right? You can get a dedicated, full-color GPS-equipped handheld (either PPC or PalmOS) for $399 from Garmin, so why would anyone opt for this kludge?
Is Pocket PC part a good thing? I'd prefer a GPS only device.
After HP plans to fire 14500 people I'll never buy a product of this company again!
Thomas
Thomas from @3, you won't buy a product from a company because it is firing people? Haha. Would you prefer that the company kept the employees and drove itself into the ground thereby being forced to fire everyone and for shareholders (who, btw, are usually institutional shareholders and there is a good chance that means that they consist largely of you and me and grandma in the form of mutual funds and 401k plans) to lose tons of value in their holdings? I'm sick of people thinking that companies are monolithic, detached entities. Get a clue.

If more people had that attitude, they would have to lay off even more.
#3. don't let the emotions get the better of you. eventhough you got laid off and you're unemployeed doesn't mean it's the end of the world. i know it's probably hard to take and understand but there are counselors and people that can help get through hard times.
let them know how you feel and maybe they'll help you control your emotions or prescribe some medicine. in anycase don't let it eat you up and force you to become irrational.
hp is doing what they feel is the best thing for the company so that they can remain competitive and in business. it will end up affecting alot of people, but life is filled with ups and downs. gotta take them as they come.
well hope you feel better and find a job soon. good luck!
#2, no. This is one of the crappiest PocketPCs the world has ever known. Stay far the f--k away.
if Garmin has such a good product ,why are ruggedized packages of 2750 and 4700 w GPS still fetching big prices? Is garmin directly linked/edited to database in excel on ppC for example ? Is the GPS using series 111 chips?
i want one. this would have to be the best looking gps and mounting system ive seen so far. it looks sleek and sexy...errrm you know what i mean. unfortunatly i already own a hx4700 with a bt gps. i bought an arkon powered mount and it is nothing but ugly compared to the sleek lines of this.
