Sony's got some new LCD HDTVs
They still haven't broken the 42-inch LCD barrier yet, but Sony's got two new S-series LCD TVs on the way, the KLV-S32A10, and the KLV-S26A10, at 32 and 26-inches respectively. Both displays will have a 1366 x 768 resolution, but their release didn't account for their new 23-inch TV of the same line—the KLV-S23A10. MSRP on these babies is $1,300, $1,500, and $2,000, not at all too shabby for a Sony rig.

they also have a new 19-inches in the same serie for $1,100.
what's the contrast on these? i couldn't find it in the specs. the new samsungs have 3,000:1 it would be nice if these did too
compared to a 24" 1920x1200 from dell for less than 1k ... rather shony ... but that's the sony way ... less performance for more money ...
notice that this is called a tv, while you have to get an extra tuner if you want hdtv... realy shabby ...
"compared to a 24" 1920x1200 from dell for less than 1k"
too bad it does not have hdmi.

"hd-dvd players are only gonna output hdtv via the hdmi output, while the analog output will be downrezed to 480 lines."
odds are blu-ray will adopt the same requirement.
eh... the dell moniters are like 1200 arent they? in which case they are dvi, hdmi to dvi converter would do the trick
i haven't used rabbit ears for years and i seriously doubt i am going to start using them again instead of signing up for cable or directv hd service... so the lack of an on-board tuner is no big deal.
i've looked at a couple of those oversized pc monitors and in my opinion they just don't cut the mustard for watching standard definition content.
desiri: hdmi to dvi adapters are already available and these sony 'tvs' don't specifically support hdcp either, so i would not expect them to ...
also, let's see how long hdcp lives anyway ;)
topmounter: what's the difference between an oversized lcd monitor and these oversized lcd tvs? anything else than the included, useless analog tuner and the inflated price? don't realy get your point ...
do you realy prefer lower resolution at a larger screen size and higher price? funny ...
lcd tvs need good video scaling gear in them or else they'll look like crap at anything that isn't their native resolution. look at the shoddy video display quality of the non-computer inputs on dell monitors for a great example. many people who are buying $999 costco special lcds are learning that cheap cpus inside of tvs can give crappy results. a true hdtv needs to be able to accept and scale a lot of different framerates and resolutions. the dvi on monitors is also not hdcp compliant which means that a hdmi to dvi adaptor won't work for hd movies. these things are different product categories and meant for different markets. no one complains about the towing capacity of a honda s2000.
haters aside, these things look pretty slick, especially the built-in light sensor that adjusts the picture settings based on the light conditions around the set. the wega gate ui is the 'cross' interface that's on the psp. i'm looking forward to seeing the 32" in person, hopefully it's better than the one they're closing out now.
there's xbr versions of these on the way at 26, 32 and 40" as well with accompanying price increases. i'm not sure what the differences are yet besides the xbrs being black and having the wega engine processor [what's the difference?].
ok so i was looking into this and was poking around to see hwo to connect a pc and listed on the sony site is "pc video input(s): 1 (rear) - d-sub 15" so i googled it and found a link to buy a cable...but the thing was $499.00! is that really what it costs to hook a pc up to take full advantage of this as a monitor or is there some other way?
mike corley: a d-sub 15 connector is a standard analog vga input that pc's have been using for ages. check out a picture here:

d-sub 15 cables can be bought for as low as $10 - $15.
these beautiful new wega a10 s-series were available in japan many months ago.
klv-s32a10 is there called "kdl-s23a10",
and klv-s26a10, "kdl-s26a10".
does anyone know when they will finally hit europe?
funny isn't it why a picture is displayed on the screen, its a jpeg and further even if it were a raw image a) would the camera have done it justice and b) my screen couldn't even display the quality of the image anyway.
but i get the point
