HTC Wizard / Qtek 9100 caught naked
Well, that's that! Looks like the HTC
Wizard "shot" we had the other day may well be the
real deal, since some Norwegian dudes caught a Qtek 9100 in the buff—and how. While we can't translate Norse, we were
able to pull a few key terms from the copy: 320 x 240 (as in, the screen res), EDGE/UMTS (we're not sure if that's a
request, or the real sitch), Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC (duh), 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and, of course,
WiFi. You know we can't wait for this one—how they tease!
[Thanks, Murph]

I got a mail today directly from HTC (High Tech Cooperation) Stating it will be out in the shops, here in Denmark by October, and that TDC and Sonofon (Two major mobile compagnies in Denmark) will have the QTEK 9100 in their mobile fleet.
You can thereby asume it will also be out in the rest of Europe by that time too.
It was also confirmed, that it will support EDGE, bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Cool!
Best regards: B.M.Wellbelove
Brian, could you please find out from your contact at HTC what is the speed of the device. If it has an OMAP850 195MHZ processor, we won[t be able to use Skype.

Has anyone checked out the specs on the Qtek 9100 at http://www.smartdevicesdirect.com - I love having specs!
Funny thing about the specs on smartdevicesdirect.com is they list Handsfree as one of the supported bluetooth profiles. Funny...are there not some other HTC PDAs out there that falsely list this profile? Fact of the matter is if this device is typical of HTC products and is sporting that oh-so-wonderful MS bluetooth stack, theres reeeally no point in having this in my opinion. As much as I love spending $800+ USD to have to speak into my PDA instead of my headset to activate voicedial, I think I'll pass and wait on the Moto Q. The 195mhz bit is not helping either. I hope someone out there can prove me wrong because I do like the design of this thing.

its dual processor, so 195mhz for the mobile and another for the pda, so i'm told. Besides, Mhz isn't really speed... AMD processors have low Mhz /Ghz settings, like 2.2Ghz but are as fast a intels 4ghz processors.
This phone is currently being tested by t-mobile USA to see the switch-over between GSM and Wifi (VoIP over WiFi). It should available by end of the year from T-Mobile USA.
Alexander,
Could you confirm whether or not Skype will work on this device? This seems to be the break point for many users on HoFo as well as many other forums on the Web.
No one else seems to be able to settle the debate.
Since you are one of the lucky few to have the device, please confirm if it works or not.
Thanks,
OMAR
Guys! 195Mhz - doesnt matter.
Tell me one more thing. How come noone mentioned there will be 3 models of this...thing?
100 110 and 200. 110 is with no camera, 200 is filled with the biggest number of functions though they are practically the same
some say Wizard will have 2mpix camera. can anyone tell me if that is true?
one last thing: they say its much faster than Qtek s100. and i also heard that HTC Tornado (qtek 8300/8310) works almost 2 times faster than HTC Hurricane just because it has new Windows Mobile 5. could it be that HTC Wizard (Qtek 9100) will work much faster than HTC Magician (Qtek s100 or s110)?
if you think yes, write me on teos_ef@mail.ru
cuz i was thinking about buying that Qtek s110 and now i wonder if i should wait cuz Qtek 9100 look much better to me. and WM 5 looks nicely.
any ideas?
oh and i tested s110 today - its a pretty nice thing. changed my mind about smartphones and PDA and cell phones. i dont want cell any more :D
Oh by the way i heard its coming to the shops this week!
Yeah, what's with the 200MHz processor and where is the damn GPS?
Bring on the all-in-one PDAPhones damn it. Come on. Stop replacing features and actually ADD them instead.
mula, how do you know that tmobile was "officially testing this phone"
i know that engadget says it will be available from tmobile but no one else knows for sure

Hope this helps!
its pretty small, or that persons got small hands, neat looking too!
i've read this post three times...
... and i still don't know what the hell it's talking about.
it's actually uglier than i thought.
but more's to the point - how did those guys manage to register windowsmobile.no without microsoft suing the pants off them?
sweeet. as long as it's wm5.0 ppc and not smartphone edition, it's a definite option! mmmmmm nv-ram
well i like it, no unneeded crappy buttons on it. we only have basicly 3 important questions un-awnsered;
1) if you are using wifi can you be called or be able to call youself?
2) battery life..?
3) release date?
:) i hope it will hit the stores here in europe pretty fast =]
why not just shrink an hp jornada?
here is a rough translation:
htc wizard is a sample model & the follow up model of qtek s100. its a pda phone sized for your pocket. much faster & better than the last model. has a qwerty keyboard, bigger & easier buttons to push on. the monitor has 240 x 320 pixels, same as last version. it comes with edge support which lets you connect with 100 to 200 kbit/s.
comes with newest version of windows mobile, windows mobile 5.0 for pocket pc phone edition.
comes with camera 1.3 megapixels ,bluetooth, wlan og autopilot
garry, www.3001.co.uk
even better news: there are 2 different versions of the htc wizard!
the 100 and the 200. check it out here:

one important question whens the darn release date!?
perfect for deaf people who are sick of their crappy sidekicks from t-blo.
i'm not a big fan of this form factor.
oh my friggin god.
on second thought i see how small that thing is and it could grow on me, although when the keyboard comes out does the display change from vertical to horizontal?
this phone is exactly what i've been waiting for. small size, landscape mode, high speed net surfing, camera with video capability and windows mobile 5.0. only other requirement is speakerphone since i dont like headsets.
hope verizon gets this in cdma/ev-do...
hey, is edge and ev-do about the same in speed? i will leave verizon for this one
i will buy this within about 10 minutes of it becoming available (assuming it is going to be available for cingular). edge, bluetooth and wifi. good-bye treo... you'll be missed.
i think it is safe to say that perfection for the pocket pc phone edition is within our reach. my only complaint is the resolution (would have liked 480x640). but hey, i can live with it. just hope it doesn't take a year to release in the us. if it is before the end of the year, i will wait for it. otherwise, i will just go with something now.
over at pcsintel.com http://www.pcsintel.com/modules.php?name=forums&file=viewtopic&t=4929&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
they are saying that there is a sprint ev-do variant of this and it should be out soon (august?)and is called the ppc-6700.
this could be very sweet indeed!
would like to be on your mailing list
hi, it was me who published the pictures on windowsmobile.no
to answer your question.
1. we can use windowsmobile.no, since the page is being run by the norwegian distributor of windows mobile in norway (dangaard telecom norway)
2. it will have edge support, no umts/3g. so 100 to 200 kbpb/s
3. release date is christmas/beginning of 1st quarter
4. you can call and use wifi at the same time
5. when the keyboard comes out, the display changes. when you pull it back, it changes back again.
alexander: can you please provide physical dimensions (length x width x depth)?
if it is indeed as small as it apears, this will be a very desireable unit.
hey thanks alexander for answering all of our questions. i'm liking this phone more and more.
what is the difference between the 100 and 200
version.
what will be the band tri or quad?
is it 128 ram
no sharing of memory 128 for the other and 128 for the ram?
when is the release date eta?
how much?
thanks you gadget people.
hey, does the bluetooth support a2dp profile for stereo headsets ?? that is the last thing i need to know and i'm sooooo buying this the moment it's available.
adi
NO 3G... :( I am fed up of useless Japanese phone I want an 3G HTC smaller that the Universal
Can we have a side by side comparison with a Treo? They seem to be about the same size.
**************GPS!**************
well
this is a good device, as long as its small, but where is GPS!!!!
let me say that again
**************GPS!**************
INTEGRATED GPS IS SO DAMN Important! they HAVE TO integrate it, I wont buy until then, then and only then it will be an all in one device!

Take it away to the sweepbasket!!!
"Men ting kan tyde p?t det enten blir til julesalget eller en gang i l? av 1. kvartal 2006."
I guess that means a release date of Q1 2006. ;)
To 31:
My norwegian is not very good, but I actually don't think it means that. It means "But certain circumstances suggests that this won't happen in time to the christmas sales, or even Q1 2006"
OMG it ONLY has a 195 Mhz. processor!
Alexander, what everyone is dieing to know is what the speed of the device is!! It is rumored to have a OMAP850 195MHZ processor, which is shocking of course, because the Magician already has 416MHZ (Intel that is). So is it true that the processor only has 195MHZ and if so, is this processor stronger than the Intel one then?!

hercules, i agree completely. after having used a motorola a1000 with agps (assisted gps) for a while, there is no way back. i heard se will pack gps into the proceeder of p910. that sounds sweet.
Here's a video of a working Qtek 9100:
