The Tablet PC is/is not doing just fine
Gotta love how TechWeb can publish two stories about the Tablet PC with completely conflicting headlines within
hours of each other. Better still, both have the same source, namely a research firm called In-Stat. One article
focused on In-Stat's recent report about the state of the Tablet PC (which talked about how after three years of mixed
success Tablet PC sales were about to start growing), while the other was based on a chat with an In-Stat analyst about
how the future of the Tablet PC OS is cloudy given that Microsoft is launching its new Ultra Mobile PC platform in a
couple of years.

My friend wanted a tablet PC, but after seeing my Powerbook and OS X, he's going with Apple.
Well, I think it's obvious, the answer depends on who you ask...the study or the analyst.
Way to go techweb.
Big thumbs up.
Re:1
An on the opposite end of the spectrum, after owning a Powerbook and OSX, I went to a tablet pc. :)
Forbes just came out with a study that said Denver has having one of the HIGHEST costs of living. They also just released a study that said Denver/Boulder was the top singles area...due to its LOW cost of living.
this was a good article.
I sold my Powerbook G4 and bought a used Motion tablet. I love it. Hard to find warez for it sometimes, though... ;)
This was not a good article.
i would love a tablet i just can't afford it. too expensive.

Does anyone have any advice on tablet PCs? They really do seem like a good idea.
Can you get a tablet PC with decent graphics? (I wanna doodle my notes and then go home and play HL2)
I'm an importer/exporter
Re: 9
Yea you can stm. I got a Toshiba Tecra M4 about a month ago. 14.1" 1400x1050 resolution, 128 mb Geforce 6600(PCI-E). 2 ghz pentium M, 60 gb SATA, 2ghz of PC4200 ram. I was able to play both CS:S(so im assuming it would run HL2) and BF2 on it.
You NEED a notebook cooler or else the games will crash or you will BSOD after 15-20 mins of gameplay. I bought an antec cooler and havent crashed since. It also handled a 12 hour raven shield session. :)
Err make that #10. I hit the wrong email and knocked things down 1. =
And thats 2 gbs of ram, not 2ghz... I need the ability to post edit.
I saw table PC. I hate it. :)
I had a PowerBook for about 2 weeks and sold it. I'm also awaiting my 4th Tablet PC, a Motion LE1600.
I'm an architect
Really, who needs TabletPCs with 640x480 pocketpc's out there? I'm even ditching my laptop for my HP hx4700. My back is thanking me every day. Want to play HL2? Buy a nice desktop with superduper geforce...you'll be happier.
Believe me, tablets ain't going nowhere.

lol...
BBC.co.uk/news <-- do this as part of procedure
I think the tablet PC is a great form factor, particularly the pure slates. Although Pocket PCs do most everything, VGA resolution and slow processors mean that they are not so good at web surfing or eBook reading. With a tablet you both with ease. I can use my tablet as a desktop replacement and use its portability when video conferencing (great for showing off what you are cooking in the kitchen!). Try that with a PPC!
The more the tablet platform matures the more different form factors arise, like the new A5 sized Motion Computing LS800, and the more competition from different platforms there is, like the Nokia 770.
The PPC is the platform which faces an uncertain future as it is swallowed up by smartphones. The ultra-mobile PC is just a shrunken version of the tablet, not its replacement.
with the government pushing towards electronic medical records it's only a matter of time before tablets become a staple device of the medical industry.
I hope my company buys me one :)
I have no axe to grind here, it's just that I'm fairly well provided for by my company, so I can usefully compare most of these bits of gear. [I work in healthcare in the UK, BTW]
-I have an Dell Optiplex desktop.
-High spec Dell Latitude notebook with wide screen /fast CPU etc.
-High spec WiFi iPaq.
-Low end FujitsuSiemens convertible Tablet PC.
-HTC Windows Smartphone.
My Optiplex is OK
My Latitude is so big that it just stays on my desk.
My iPaq is a pointless gizmo. Absolute rubbish. Good for nothing.
My TabletPC is possibly the best electronic item I own. Performance is adequate, flexibility is teriffic. Size/weight is right on. Screen rotation is very useful. I didn't even want a Tablet - I thought they would be cr@p - boy, was I wrong. I would even buy one with my own money
Windows smartphone is very good too. Makes the iPaq redundant.
Anyways, there you go. That's my experience.
